CHRIS EVANS as STEVE ROGERS / CAPTAIN AMERICA Avengers: Infinity War (2018) | dir. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo

Unusual circumstances had a way of bringing people together. Although Wanda currently served on the Avengers of Earth-616 alongside a Captain America, it was Sam Wilson and not Steve Rogers. Time had familiarized Wanda and Sam; years of running the same circles had turned the two from coworkers into something more akin to friends. Despite that, however, Steve remained the Captain America she knew better.
It had been a long time since a young Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver had joined the Avengers for the first time. It had been the beginning of a new era, a new life for the two. The original roster had been on their way out with only Steve Rogers remaining. He had accepted the twins despite their past histories, and for that second chance Wanda remained eternally grateful.
Of course, the man who sat across from her was not that man. He was not the Steve Rogers she had grown fond of over the years, but a variant instead. Wanda was choosing to believe that his heart remained steadfast and true. He cared — deeply. Empathy was an emotion needed now more than ever to combat the chaos and uncertainty.
"People hear witch and become full of idealized notions and misconceptions," Wanda explained. "Although, I do seem to be closer to the fairytales than my variant from your reality was." The Wanda Maximoff of Earth-Prime had vanished along with the Avengers of her reality six years before. "It's because of this misconceptions that people think I can peer into a crystal ball and magically have all the answers. It's not that simple. It never is."
Ripped from her own reality, Wanda yearned for the recent comforts she had found. She missed the living spaces that were beginning to feel like home and the privacy that they brought. The Avengers Compound was always loud and moving. Newcomers arrived each day, disoriented from their unwilling arrivals. Still, they persevered. They looked for answers continually when it felt every door was slammed in their face.
"Of course," Wanda paused, a small smile growing on her lips. "I'm not without resources. My status as a nexus being remains unique. But enough talk of the multiverse and existential dread." They couldn't ignore the problem, but Wanda was no stranger to letting her issues and fears consume her. Balance was a necessity, not a suggestion. "The food is done. Are you okay with spice?"
Steve was used to weird. It took some time to get him there, but he no longer spent too long questioning the smallness of their lives after every reality altering crisis. Death wasn't finite and the universe turned out to be infinitely more vast than a couple trillion stars. So, yeah, if he spent too much time dwelling in existential crisis, he'd never get out of bed.
In all of that, however, he never expected that he would be having dinner with another version of Wanda Maximoff. Not that he had any problems with the girl from his reality, she was wonderful, but their dynamic had always been one of guidance. He wanted to help her, not...spend the day doing meaningless tasks like dishes.
It helped that they looked nothing alike. This Wanda was older of course, with darker auburn curls and a different accent. She was graceful and fluid in a way that was mesmerizing, and Steve had to stop himself from staring--mainly because he enjoyed watching her.
The more she spoke, the more she became a separate entity from the Wanda he knew at all, and try as he might, there was a confidence to her that he couldn't help but find attractive. Which admittedly gave him some pause. Initially, Steve had approached her because the Avengers would always benefit from the presence of The Scarlet Witch--especially one with experience, and while his motives hadn't entirely changed...they had seemed to drift off course. He had not expected to look forward to her presence. Not like this.
When her voice carried again, he was pulled from the web of his tangled thoughts .
"Of course." Steve said. "And--please, don't think any of us expect you to bear the burden of knowing all the answers. I just know that with all that you're capable of, Strange can't and shouldn't be our only resource." And then at the question, he smiled. "I love spice." Since he came out of the ice he had experienced all kinds of food and was pleased to find that it had evolved in such an artistic way. The smell of whatever she had made was rich and layered with flavor, he had no doubt it would taste just as good.
"Maybe next time I'll have to cook for you." as the words were leaving his mouth, he realized how they sounded and quickly frowned. "Not that--you know in a professional way? I wasn't implying..." He shook his head, trailing off and opting to not incriminate himself any further.
Not even two braincells amongst them.

Steve Rogers in the MCU → Avengers: Infinity War (2018) dir. by The Russo Brothers ↳ “Earth just lost her best defender, so we’re here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we’ll fight you too.”
good day, gentlemen. you have exactly three seconds to surrender. unfortunately, it took five seconds for me to say that.
the sentinel of liberty run has me in a chokehold currently so I had to edit him <3 ignore the fact that almost none of these panels or quotes are actually from sentinel of liberty. I just like steve rogers
