This comes off as Alice in the Wonderland fanfiction to me but the more I become invested in it, it strayed from my association with it to the movie. Every word had every impact towards the story.
Honestly I'm emotionally invested with Cath's character development towards the end. If it's a woman slowly going insane because of the loss of their love I am on my knees. Cath's character was depicted as this powerless perfect goody two shoes girl to straight up having someone executed just because she CAN for her own reasons. She keeps hitting rock bottom after rock bottom and there's no remorse, I liked that her character doesn't doubt any of her thoughts. Hatta came off as an antagonist, but I understood why. He's a blunt realistic person who has his own motives and sometimes it matters than the others. Jest was kinda underdeveloped but I liked his relationship wit Cath.
This book had many allegories that even us as a society don't talk about very much. Hearts is filled with this picture perfect kingdom that has nothing wrong with it, there's balls and people love their government but as the story goes on (especially at the end) we see how ignorant they are to important things like the king deciding to throw a ball so the people would forget about the incident instead of having the jabberwock taken down or cheering that a murderer of someone in court doesn't get punished for their crimes. I also saw how the people praised the bare minimum to men, and when Cath calls it out she's told she's not feeling alright. I wasn't really interested in the Jest and Cath's arc because it felt kind of empty to me but I liked it. Cath's sour turn to her character is just brilliant, looking back at her pre-queen dialogue, most of them contradicts to her post-queen dialogue it really showed how Jest's death was the final push to her going revenge hungry. I enjoyed this book a lot, it's a 9/10.
