          Aw, jeez! Wirt’s already on top of him, what a bummer! Wouldn’t it have been cool to have added height to a mini-mountain’s summit?! His brother really doesn’t get it– if anything, he’s helping the sheep by making the display more magnificent. (He won’t mention wanting to feel a bit taller this time around.)

          Why wouldn’t there be a festival about rocks, honestly? There’s ones about the moon and the sun, and those are both rocks too! So obviously the less universal rocks need love too, down to the tiniest pebble. But oh! Wirt’s asking him something! … Where’d he get that stick?

          “ Did you know that turtles get their shells decorated by professional mermaid sculptures? They get polished every 5 years! “

          “ Fish have an entirely different artist unit altogether for their scales. “ Well, that’s one way to distract him.

      In Wirt’s opinion, no, no it would not have been cool. Greg is the one who doesn’t get it! He can’t just go around and mess with decorations that the sheep apparently put up despite not having fingers! Er, how did they do that, anyway? ... No. No, he’s not going to debate the logistics of how sheep can stack rocks. Oh my gosh.

      As long as Greg’s happy with the event, Wirt can’t bring himself to be annoyed for too long. It’s not everyday there’s a festival practically catered to your little half-brother! ... Where’d he get that stick?

          “ Y'know those rock towers they make? “ He’s gesturing to one right now, stacked up neatly nearby. “ You said that I was heavy as a rock one time– which would be a Wirt Fact™ and not a Rock Fact™, immediately makes it true– so do you think I could put myself on top of one? I’d fit right in! “

          He says that, but he’s already going and trying to climb up on one of them. Why even ask for permission?!

      “Greg?”

      “Uh, no, I don’t think—“ Think fast! Your brother’s already attempting to make the climb instead of waiting for your answer. Wirt sighs, grabbing Greg and setting him back down the (very impressive) rock display. “... I don’t think that would work. The sheep, uh, seemed to have taken a lot of time putting these rock decorations together, so...”

      He’s not exactly questioning the event itself. Although he knows something like this wouldn’t happen in their hometown, it seems to be quite suited for Greg and his Rock Facts™, so he’s willing to give it a chance. Maybe it won’t be as chaotic as the ball?

      “I, uh.” Well, that’s what he gets for not looking where he’s going. He was headed across the room to get to his brother, but he ended up colliding with a girl instead! This is awkward. “S-Sorry, I should’ve been paying more attention.”

Jeff isn’t exactly a social butterfly. Sure he dressed up a little for the event, but that was to mainly not stand out so much in the crowd. Not that his usual outfit was messy or anything. He still felt a bit out of place despite his best efforts though.

By a table with refreshments, there seemed to be a teem by himself. He wondered if the guy was feeling the same? Outsider-like, alone in a crowded room. Curious, he walked to the table, grabbed one of the drinks, which seemed to thankfully be a punch and nothing alcoholic and stood by the table, attempting to strike up a conversation after taking a sip. 

“I-I’m not really good at these kinds of events. T-The atmosphere is nice t-though.”

      Wirt isn’t good with the whole socializing thing either—he mostly came to the ball due to Greg’s insistence, and he knew skipping out on it would not be good for either of them. So, here he is, dressed up but with no one beyond his brother to talk to. He keeps a watchful eye on his brother in the distance as he dances with Laila, taking a break from dancing with him for the time being.

      It was probably a mistake in thinking he’d be the only one who felt out of place here. Glancing to the side, Wirt realizes the boy next to him is addressing him. He’s almost certain that he’s talking to someone else, but considering it’s just the two of them by this table...

          “ The city’s big, the crowds are bigger! “ He boy says in a singsong tone, taking one of Wirt’s hands into his own! They both look so styling! Who knew that they could find such dapper matching outfits like this? Life is good. It sure is good. “ Everyone was invited! And you’re fine! If you’re so nervous, then dance with me! “

          “ Since you don’t want to play ball. “ Greg adds on, a twinkle in his eyes as he looks up at his brother. “ I can teach you how to dance! C’mon! “

      “I mean. You’re not wrong.” Is it just him, or has the city gotten a lot bigger since the two of them showed up? Seems like there’s a lot more hustle and bustle than he’s used to, and it’s extremely disconcerting. “I. I guess everyone was, but that doesn’t necessarily include us—”

      Wirt. Wirt, ‘everyone’ includes you and your brother. You haven’t forgotten how reading comprehension works, have you? ... Of course he hasn’t, he’s just looking for an excuse to worry at this point. He sighs, looking down at his brother.

      Shoot! He really needs to watch where he’s going. Wirt nearly bumped into this poor girl while trying to find his way over to the snack table. Luckily, Laila is with Greg, so he doesn’t have to worry about his brother being alone, but...

      “Uh, sorry,” he says, hastily shooting out an apology as soon as he realizes. “I-I’ll watch where I’m going. ... ... Wait, uh... Wait, aren’t you that girl that plays the violin? I, uh, swear I’ve seen you around sometimes...”

          “ Whyd’ya wanna go if you didn’t wanna dance, Wirt? “ Greg appears to have a dilemma here, one that starts and ends with a certain older brother’s anxiety. “ Oh! Unless you actually wanted to play games instead? This is a ball, after all! I’m surprised there isn’t all kinds of them here right now! You’d think that they woulda got the memo by now, right? “

      “I... I didn’t think it’d be so crowded,” he admits, tugging on his collar. At least he looks good in his pinstripe suit, but geez does it feel hot in here. It’s probably all the people in the area, but he can’t help but sweat. “I can’t exactly dance anyway, and everyone will probably stare at me if I try, and it’s not like we were directly invited—”

      When he was told there was a detective who could help find the whereabouts of his brother, he didn’t expect him to be so...

      ... Tall. Huge. Intimidating. He looks more like a giant instrument than a person, which he doesn’t really have a problem with (better than guys with swords), but at the same time, he was expecting more of a “classic” private eye or. Something. He’s been reading too many Agatha Christie novels.

Lamb nodded at the boy’s predicament in understanding. “We haven’t seen such a boy, I’m sorry,” she answered with a hint of sadness. “Unless he happened to sneak around us, in which case, he could be anywhere.”

“Maybe he’s buried alive!” Wolf added helpfully. Lamb immediately waved off his comment.

“We didn’t bury anyone,” she assured. “We’ve only cleaned the area, so far, so don’t mind him. Do you know where he might have come in at?” Given they have only resided there for a little while, she wasn’t entirely sure how big the place was. Still, there seemed to only be one front gate…

Wolf growled and sniffed the air, curiously. “I don’t smell anyone nearby… Do you think I could chase him out…?” He laughed a little to himself. It was kind of creepy, but Lamb was too used to it to do more than give a stern glance.

      Buried alive!? That only causes Wirt to fret, taking deep breaths in order to try and not panic in front of the two. Geez, Wirt, you just met these guys! You can’t already be showing your more vulnerable side! Keep it together!

      “D-Didn’t...? A-Alright,” he says, trying to listen to Lamb over Wolf in regards to his brother’s whereabouts. “Uh, isn’t there only one entrance here? I... I don’t think he’d squeeze in through the fence, but...”

      Hearing Wolf only makes Wirt sweat more, his deep breaths clearly not doing much in terms of keeping him calm. He was never very good at keeping his cool, but he supposes he never had any in the first place. Finding Greg is his priority, and if these two are his only means of doing so, well... He’ll be fine. Probably. Mostly. He hopes.

Stella: What does your muse do for fun?  Do they have any habits or quirks that could be considered “impulsive”?

Wirt writes poetry and plays the clarinet, of course! He tends to keep some of his more personal works to himself, but he’s getting better about sharing it (mostly at Greg’s insistence). Greg listening in on him playing used to annoy him, but ever since coming back from the Unknown, he’s more relaxed about letting him (and Laila) listen!

Imagine Wirt playing the clarinet while Greg dances to it with Laila. That’s the cutest shit.

          Halloween has long passed by now, even if people can say that his appearance suggests otherwise. Gaster is certainly confused about the other’s appearance when they approach him, but he supposes that he doesn’t have much right to say anything. After all, the king still wears a cape and crown. Maybe cone hats are still in style for humanity? Who knows. 

          “ … A tea pot for a hat? “ Actually, no, no, this makes a lot of sense now. “ … Mmm. I think… “ Lord, the little bugger was running so fast, he almost forgot what direction the kid was going. “ … He was headed in the direction of the woods, from what I recall. It’d be good if you found him quickly. “ A pause.

          “ –You’re his… brother, I presume? “  If only he could hear what was going on in Wirt’s head, hoo boy.

      Why, of all things, is a skeleton questioning his brother’s attire? Not like Wirt can say much in response to that, considering what he’s wearing, but... No, wait, he should listen to the rest of what this guy has to say—

      ... Hold on, he’s actually seen his brother!? Oh gosh, that’s a first.

      “Y-Yes!” he practically yells, more out of surprise than anything. Wirt doesn’t say anything for a moment, trying to control his volume when he speaks again. “Er, yes, I am, sorry. He tends to, uh, run away a lot, I guess.”

      He’s speaking fast, trying to get all of his words out while simultaneously eyeing the woods. It’d be good if he found him quickly!? How can he when Greg moves so fast!?

It may have taken some time, but finally a reply finds its way to you, delivered by a sheep once again! I guess they really are that reliable, huh. You open the envelope to read what it says.
