roses fall but the thorns remain

“i’m not going to be fine. i’m barely hanging on as it is mom, i can’t… i can’t do it without you. you’re one of the only reasons i didn’t stake myself when thea brought me back mom. you can’t leave me. please.” he blubbered on, his eyes starting to water as he tried to maintain his composure. “saying goodbye isn’t the same thing as staying… i know it, and you know it.”

“I would still like to try.”

“you did, and you will again. that’s your choice. but for a woman who fell in love with a vampire.. with children who are vampires,who’s spent her whole life around them… i find it hard to believe that you haven’t at least considered it. is it the existence itself?  the killing, the bloodlust?  or do you, after everything that has happened, believe that it changes a person to such an extent, that it’s as if they really did die, and something else rose from the ashes?” kai’s gaze was cold, but his expression wasn’t aggressive – or even rough. it was just serious, and unyielding. “look me in the eye and tell me that you would have wanted this fate for alex and thea. tell me that the same reasons you wanted them to fight can’t be applied to you. you would know better than anyone how to stay true to yourself, yet you won’t even stay to guide them?  convince me, davina claire. i’m not leaving until you have.”

“you can’t.” alexander knew he was being hypocritical when he told his mother she couldn’t do the same thing he had done. if anyone should have understood her decision, it should have been him. he should have supported her decision, stood by her side, but he was being selfish, and he knew it. “i can’t do this without you, mom. please reconsider. please.”

“because you don’t have to be. one drop is all it takes.”

“let’s agree to disagree.” alexander teased as he flashed his mother a smile. that smile quickly faded however as his mother spoke, and his heart dropped. “what?”

alexander chuckled at his mother’s comment, shaking his head at the remark. “she does take after will actually.” he teased, focusing on his daughter until his mother demanded his attention and he looked up to ask “about? ”

alex watched eagerly as his mother met her granddaughter, beaming with happiness at the fact the moment had finally come. he loved the pair so much, he only could hope he made his mother as proud as he wished he could. “she’s perfect.” he agreed as he looked down at lucie, focusing on her for a moment before offering his mother a grin. “just like her grandma.”

“ great. come on in.” alex beamed, taking the small smile for what it was and opening the door wider for his mother before walking over to retrieve his daughter. “hey baby girl, someone’s here to see you.” 

“What about me? I’m left to look after everyone else, but what about me? I moved in with Dad to take care of him. I resurrected Alex and died for him. I do everything for everyone and you’re the only one that worries about me.”

“I-I love you too, Momma.”

“I-I should go. Uh- I need- I have something I need to do.”

“I- I still need you though. I still need you.”

“A-Are you going to transition? I- There’s some blood in the fridge. I can go get it right now.”
