In the Netflix Death Note adaption The Death Note had alot of Name in it already and it also had a note that said “Don’t Trust Ryuk”....What if Death Note that we know and love is cannon in the new Universe as we can assume there are more than 1 person int he named Light and L theoretically could be Code Name passed down from child to child once graduating...also the Wammy house wasn’t burned down in the anime or manga....The Netflix Death Note isnt a Retelling its a addition to the story...We as fan’s were focused on the fact that is was Death Note and wasn’t true to the story to the point we didnt look at the clues in front of use 

Stop thinking that the Netflix series is a note for note adaptation,Its its own story with its own interpretation of characters if ur goin to hate this movie hate on it because The main characters ate called Light and L they should be different characters and the fact that it is rushed ....3/5 starts not perfect not great its good/ok...

I'm going to be honest I personally didn't mind the Netflix interpretation and adaptation of Death Note, key words interpretation and adaptation...this is not a shot for shot manga to film adaption. This in all intent and purpose is a new story but sadly with familiar names. Our protagonist are similar to the original characters yet there own characters...excluding Misa. The story is similar yet adapted differently. These differences arnt all bad some are well welcomed some are jarring...the biggest problem the movie is timing and pace...at times this movie is very rushed ryuk appearing,misa turning evil,L and Light familiarity. If your goin watch this keep in mind of that....I think if you watch this from another perspective don't think of this death note or death note usa think of this like Like a prequel to Beyond Birthday or a AU Death Note its not bad
