adrianohara:
And just like that, he was quiet. Jaw stiff and eyes downcast, hardened. A man of difficulty when it came to divulging the right words, and even fewer in auditory confessions, his tactus having always proclaimed more than his tongue. When Hazelâs hand slid into the limpness of his own and squeezed, the sensory creature he was went on a visceral haywire, his body suddenly rigid and tense. This was his best friend here, hand in his and eyes reaming, trying to pry him open and understand what was going on, and here he was; fighting it along with the dichotomy behind honeyed eyes, a battle about whether or not to tell her, for his loyalties still lied somewhere else. Somewhere they shouldnât have then, in another best friend, more severely, his lifeâs love. The one responsible for his eternal euphoria, and now, his interim suffering. âNo,â his eyes slid shut and his hand slipped out and back into his lap before he could squeeze the slender one left on the table, and relay the tactile confession that yes, something is wrong, and itâs killing me. â⌠Haze, itâs fine. Iâm fine.â His gaze opened again and fell on Hazel, stoic and hard and void of much, but a painful tug in earthy eyes was begging her: Donât push. Please, donât push.
It didnât take much to see that his statement wasnât true at all. He wasnât fine, he was far from fine, and Hazel could tell almost too easily. She wished he had been better at hiding it - or that they werenât as close as they were, because maybe that was what gave him away. She knew him too well, and just like he knew her, and knew when she wasnât feeling well, so did she when it came to him, and this went beyond not just feeling well. He was suffering, he was in visible pain, despite his best efforts to try and hide it. So the loyal creature in her, the mother, the best friend, the caretaker, wanted to push and make him unload, to share the burden with her, but she could feel him begging her not to - that one look in his eyes piercing her soul and silencing her for a long, long moment. âIs it Idris?â She asked. Her voice was soft and low, like she wasnât officially asking him anything, but just trying to make sure, to cover her bases. âOphelia? Zoe?â
nicartwright:
âYouâre welcome.â The male replied, not caring if it was genuine of not. As long as the groaning was over. Nic had looked away from the blonde, only for a split second, before her words had drawn him back towards her. His eyes had widen, if only slightly, âIs that right?â He muttered, all too aware of how that went. âYou might have to show up in person, Haze.â He commented, then paused, âOr I can kill him for you.â Another pause, before a dark laughter escaped his lips suggesting he was joking.
Hazel had always liked Nic. She hardly knew anything about the man, but she was certain she liked him, and didnât expect it to change anytime soon. She did want to get to know him better though, but realised a long time ago that he was far from an open book. That didnât keep her from trying though, and when the conversation continued, she smiled a little and nodded. âYup, unfortunately thatâs right.â She said and sighed. She was so tired of trying to force her husband to sign divorce papers, and was hoping she could be granted a divorce through the courts instead, which was why she needed a god-damn lawyer. She laughed when Nic suggested he kill her husband for her. âYou know what, that would be really great, please do that.â
jamiefrench:
âDonât forget your other half, heâs hungry tooââ He laughed, noting their conversation at the festival. âEven ate an uncooked pumpkin to try and fill himself up, it didnât go down well.â Jamie laughed again, holding his stomach as he thought about the pie. âYeah, Davis mentioned that. I hope she gets better soon, babies are pretty tough.â When Jamie first held his niece, he assumed she was going to fall and shatter but he quickly realised that they were very resilient. âIâm good, Iâm good. Not hungry, always tired though. Yeah, Iâve gottaâ start getting out again. Workâs been a pain, so just hit me up with a date.â
âWhat?â Hazel laughed, but not because he had referred to Davis as her other half, but because she didnât know about the whole pumpkin thing. Davis was probably saving the story for later. âThat poor guy. And here I was thinking he fed himself when I didnât,â joked Hazel with her usual grin and laugh. âYeah, sheâll be fine - probably not until she takes the rest of us down with us though, you know? Itâs hard not to catch a cold in close quarters with one.â She shrugged. She was expecting it now to be honest, so it didnât matter much. âAlways tired? Donât you get enough sleep Jamie?â She asked, trying not to look concerned. âIâll text you a couple of dates for next week, and weâll definitely set something up. Bring a girlfriend if you would like.â
riley-m:
âThey do know itâs not part of my job. They somehow donât care anymore.â Though they should have. She wasnât going to change over night, or ever. âYou want me to get my face close enough to a toilet to wrap something around it? Fuck no. I donât want pink eye.âÂ
âWell thatâs stupid of them,â said Hazel and frowned. âThey definitely donât deserve donuts or anything else rewarding.â Hazel wasnât sure if she believed Adrian was part of the problem, but she was always likely to make him an exception and then believe the rest of the lot were the ones in the wrong. âWell... I donât know if you can get pink eye from a toilet, but I hear you, I definitely hear you."

âRight? Even if they were unhelpful, as long as theyâre funny I could put up with it. At least Iâd have a funny story to share with someone that day,â he said, leaning back in his seat and taking a sip of his coffee. âThatâs what this world needs more of, robots with sarcasm, personality. Maybe more people like that too.â
âYeah, but not that many of them are. I mean, I canât ever recall meeting a funny lawyer,â said Hazel. âActually, thatâs not true, I know funny people who went on to become lawyers, just not divorce lawyers, and thatâs the one I need.â She sighed and pulled her fingers through her blonde hair in frustration, unashamed of her already estranged marriage and impending divorce. âYes, more robots like that, and humans too, for sure.â
lilysilvax:
âI think that you can just do it online, probably.â She said with a shrug of her shoulder. âOr stop paying it until they cancel it and then work to pay back your bill, but youâd probably have a few late fees to pay.â
âNo, I tried to, but they keep referring me to their office, and to call them instead,â said Hazel frustratedly. âI think theyâre playing me or something. Theyâre probably having a laugh as we speak.â Of course it wasnât that personal - they were probably just busy, but Hazel was over it. âOh, thatâs a pretty good idea though - just canceling the monthly payment. Iâll try that... thank you so much.â
alison-harper:
Allie laughed a little, shaking her head as she tried to think of how to describe what went wrong. âBasically a man tried to assault me and I managed to escape. Isnât exactly the best memory I have and so Halloween always gets a little touchy for me.â
âOh wow... okay, thatâs really intense, I totally understand why youâre not fond of it anymore,â said Hazel sympathetically. âItâs awful and disgusting when men think they can hide behind costumes like that, you know? Suddenly make it okay to do such a thing.â She shook her head in disapproval. âAll I can say is... you need to take back the power. Show Halloween and those disgusting bastards that youâre not gonna let them win, you know? But in your own time obviously, so donât feel pressures to do it this year.â

âBreastfeeding and barely sleeping â I almost forgot thatâs the best exercise you could ever ask for.â The brunette smiled warmly, the thought of the two babies popping in her mind. That was by far a better way to exercise than yoga in Sophieâs mind. âI would love to, of course. Iâd be happier if I hit the gym with a friend, thatâs always more fun. We can even do things late at night if that works better for you, but Iâm sure youâd rather rest than have to watch about the beautiful twos.â She joked, âA cold? Aw, I hope she gets well soon. Has she gotten cranky because of that?â
âRight?â Hazel laughed and shook her head softly. She wouldnât want to change anything when it came to being a mum but sometimes she missed being able to go to the gym or something like that, which was why it would be ideal to have someone to go with, to kind of hold her up in a way. âYou will? Thatâs amazing, thank you so much Sophie. It would be great for me to get out and do that kind of stuff again while Davis has the kiddies anyway. Any time of the day is good for me though, well pretty much, as long as it suits Davis too. Iâll check with him and then text you some options maybe?â She grinned happily. âYeah, sheâll be okay. Sheâs not really cranky, just a little fussy, you know? A little needy.â

A smile dashed his lips, small but full, amused but testy, â⌠I canât tell if youâre tryinâ to warn me or if you just complimented meââ He laughed, cutting off his response, though he wasnât done yet, still entertained by the idea, âA back-handed compliment is what they call it, right? I think you just gave me a backhanded compliment, Hazel,â The blonde mused, boyishly vibrant with his demeanor, worthy of eliciting an emotion of anyone that peered long enough at least. Mason watched her end her call, slightly surprised, but he figured it wasnât so much of him, but more that she was merely on the brink. A divorce wasnât what heâd expected, and the word deflated his grin a tad, shrinking it to a curious smile, âIs that the problem? Him not wantinâ to sign it?â He asked, a corner of his mouth curling up, ââCause I can give a stern talkinâ to. Y'know, a proper slap on the back of the handâ.â
âNoooo,â said Hazel in protest while shaking her head. âNot a backhanded compliment. Iâm just tired and I donât even know what Iâm saying, donât listen to me, you know I adore you.â She said and laughed, hiding her face behind her hand. She truly was frustrated with things today, but not with him - and she wouldnât be with him either. In fact, it was nice to have a good friendâs company on a frustrating day. âYeah, he doesnât want to sign the papers. I canât get a hold of him, so I donât know why exactly, but I need him to just... freaking sign them. If you could fly down to North Carolina and find him and give him that stern talking to, that would be amazing, really...â She smiled, laughing just a little.
maisiereed-wallace:
Maisieâs brow quirked, turning her smile into one of amused incredulity. âDavis as Mr. Incredible?â she asked, her tone dripping with teasing sarcasm. âNot sure I see it, but sure⌠go aheadâŚâ She had nothing against Davis - really, she (told herself she) didnât. She just had a healthy dose of skepticism about the guy; having seen him break her friendâs heart once, she wasnât eager to let him do it again.Â
âActually-â Hazel said, not defensive but still in Davisâ defence. âHe has been pretty incredible since this whole thing happened, you know, having the twins and all that. Heâs really stepped up.â She smiled and nodded softly, thinking back to everything they had been through and how he had been there unwaveringly. âI think heâs really changed for the better. Again.â
jude-nolan:
âThose damn lawyers,â Jude said with a condemning shake of his head. âI mean, I guess these problems will be solved once they have fully thinking robots manning all these hotlines, but you know, actually helpful ones unlike Siri or something. Although, to Siriâs defence, she makes some pretty great jokes.â
âRight? Iâm so tired of them,â said Hazel and exhaled deeply but not without a laugh too. At this point that was all she could do, or needed to do to keep a clear head in all this divorce crap. âOh robots!â She laughed now and nodded her head at his joke, grateful for his light mood. âYes, we need robots like Siri to run those phones. With the same sense of humour.â
sandorandrassy:
â Eh, I worked in the American Embassy in Budapest, and that is about as close as I ever got to politics, ever. â, he clarified, seeing how she might have thought something else. And judging SĂĄndor would have anyone assume anything about him rather than think he meddled around in anything as corrupt as politics. â Letâs just hope for you to not get stuck the second time around, because keep getting stuck is even worse âÂ
âThatâs close enough to never want to get closer Iâm sure?â She smiled lightly to make sure he knew she was just joking. She would never judge anyoneâs job, and actually admired those who dared go into politics. They were important after all. âYeah, I hope I wont. Iâm praying I wonât, because I think it might drive me crazy if I do, you know? Anyway... Iâm Hazel - itâs nice to meet you.â
alison-harper:
Allie wanted to find a way to fight Hazelâs logic but she couldnât really. All the bad thoughts that rushed through her mind were all because she let the bad experience ruin any fun memories she had of Halloween. âYou know, I hate that youâre right. I canât even come up with anything to refute you. â
âThatâs music to my ears,â said Hazel and laughed softly. âI want you to have a nice night though, but I do understand why youâre apprehensive. Maybe if you tell me what went wrong, we can look at how to avoid something similar happening next Halloween?â

davis-sampson:
âIf youâre up, Iâm up,â he assured her with a squeeze, a stupid sounding promise that he hoped sheâd forgive him for and maybe even be touched by. The sentiment if nothing else was heartfelt:Â He was there for the long haul, in whatever capacity she would allow him to be.Â
It was a sweet moment - peaceful, even with El dozing fitfully in his arms - and though it wasnât the moment heâd planned on (he wasnât even sure when that was), he figured now was as good a time as any to tell her what heâd been up to. Heâd been sneaking around at first - it was easy enough to keep it a secret from her when heâd made a career of doing things similar - but now he felt secure enough to share his plans. âBesides, Iâll probably find a use for the late nights. Isnât there some cliche about pulling all nighters studying?âÂ
âYeah.â She whispered sweetly and nodded, her fingers sliding in between his and squeezing reassuringly. âI know you are, and it means so much to me Davis.â It did. She had stopped doubting him a long time ago, and she knew he was there whenever she needed it or whenever their kids needed him.Â
Slowly pulling her hand back again to look at the time on her phone before dumping it in one of the small compartments of the diaper bag with a heavy sigh. She was probably worried for no reason - she knew there wasnât much to do when it came to medical options for Eloise. She would just need a lot of rest and food, and a little bit of baby paracetamol if she were to get a fever. She would be okay, she knew that, and she focused on that until Davis spoke again. âWhat?â She looked at him with knitting brows, not sure she heard him right, or how she could have heard him right. âWhat do you mean?â
nicartwright:
Nic glanced over at Hazel as she then turned to him, and spoke. At first, he hadnât replied back to her. In fact, he remained rather unphrased by the question, and for a moment, itâd seem that heâd come to ignore her words. It seemed. And then in a brief moment, the male had reached for the phone, and ended the call for her. Before handing the device back to her. âLifeâs too short, Boyd.â He commented, finally. âAnd yours mightâve been had I had to listen to you groan or huff one more time. Who were you on hold with?â
Hazel watched as Nic took the phone from her hand and hung up for her. Her first reaction was to protest it, but when relief washed over her at the end of the call, she couldnât help laugh. âWow... thanks for that Nic.â She smiled at him and sighed, pushing the phone away from her on the table like it had betrayed her somehow. âUh... my estranged husbandâs office.â She explained and cringed at every damn word. âHeâs ignoring me because I want him to sign divorce papers and he wonât - because heâs a petty asshole.â
