(Trans rep anon) I don’t know how to explain why that wouldn’t work without explaining the plot. ;; It’s basically magical girls meets Hunger Games, if that helps?
That does not.
Look if breaking your world in half by the outdated gender binary is so important to you that you can’t think of a work around where that part doesn’t exist, maybe just don’t put trans characters into it. Can’t have your cake and fuck it too, my fella.
Magical Girls meets Hunger Games what the fuck?!
Does anyone else remember when this genre was fun stories about girls being friends and beating up supervillains?
I will never forgive Madoka Magica for the damage it has done. I’m not familiar enough with the genre to know if that’s the exact point when the well was poisoned, but it’s certainly the most infamous one.
Yeah no that was it. The whole "deconstructing magical girls" thing had been done before, but Madoka was the first one where the "deconstruction" was little more than a cheap excuse for the writer to indulge his fantasies about watching girls die.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the creator, Gen Urobuchi, even admitted to liking to torture the characters in Madoka Magica. He also made Saya no Uta, so that explains why he uses "deconstruction" and "horror" as a way to put his gross fetishes into anything he's a part of.
Gen Urobuchi also wrote a show for boys (Kamen Rider Gaim) that was about young men being turned into superheroes by an evil corporation so they can fight each other to the death and angst over it all before one of them becomes a God and surpasses the system. This is just Madoka Magica but "magical girls" is replaced by "superheroes" and "aliens" is replaced by "corporation." In other words, this guy just has one (1) single plotline in his brain and will do it until he dies.
Yeah no, that show only had literally 3 people turn into monsters by their own volition. The whole evil corporation was essentially a separate faction that clashed with the heroes because the “enemies” of that show were literal invading species and everyone was dealing with that in their own way. Hell even the “turn into god” thing wasn’t even a sought out goal just a side effect at the end. Might want to dig a bit deeper than just reading the cliff notes and piecing something together to make someone look bad.
