Hello new firefriend! Here's some extentions I recommend to everyone who firefoxes
I will do a tier list structure (S, A, F you get it)
This is the adblocker to get, it does essentially everything. There are certain big brain settings you can do with it, but for now keep it vanilla until you're ready
2. Firefox Multi Account Containers
These create containers that add privacy to your life by trapping cookies into one container that does not breach into your other browsing habits. Also allows you to store multiple accounts if you have that sorta stuff. I use it to create containers for privacy affecting sites such as anything under the google umbrella and microsoft umbrella.
3. Archive Page & Wayback Machine
I feel it's important to archive every useful thing you browse and find on the internet. These two sites are a godsend for saving sites and browsing what once was. Another good site is ghostarchive, but sadly there isn't an addon for that site I am aware of.
4. Save webP as PNG or Jpeg
Literal life saver, if you hate webp as much as I do, this is your best friend.
5. Sponsorblock for youtube
For the moments where I do use plain youtube, I use this. It automatically skips sponsorships, bell and subscribe reminders, and other stuff.
Every seasoned tumblrer uses or have used Xkit, this is the latest and most maintained version of the extention. It adds a lot of quality of life features to your tumblr experience.
For moments where Firefox's reader mode isn't enough, tranquility will be your life saver. Especially it's "print in read mode" feature which has saved my metaphorical life more times than I can count.
This little downloader has helped me a lot archiving! But might not be for everyone or every use case.
Ok so fun story, I used to do something where I'd archive a bunch of links for a fandom. To make the process easier, I used FoxyTab to sort those links alphabetically and then copy every URL. I kept it around to this day even though I don't do that anymore because I find FoxyTab's functions extremely useful for my browsing needs. But I'm kinda the sorta person who loves to be organized on my computer.
This is not for everyone, but I use this a lot. Want to distance yourself from a website for mental health? Redirect. Want to create privacy frontend redirects for sites? Redirect.
It's very easy to set up, just duplicate the example redirect and fill out with your own stuff and boom.
This is an RSS feed browser, which is basically a fancy way to see current updates to most websites, tumblr blogs, youtubers, etc.
For reasons given under "Feedbro" in C tier, I got this, which moves the feeds into Firefox's built in sidebar. Much better for productivity. Now I can check only when I want to.
This lists each of your tabs on the side of the screen. If you prefer your tabs to be on the side at all times and never on the top follow instructions given here. I only use this if I have a ton of tabs to sort through and usually prefer my tabs on the top.
I don't really use userscripts and use even less now reddit's gone, but when I do need to do something the website doesn't have built in, this is the best way to add features. Just search what website you want to add stuff here and experiment.
Redirects Fandom wikis to indie alternatives. Don't browse wikis enough to say how accurate or useful this is.
2. Progressive web apps for Firefox
Other browsers have the ability to turn websites into "apps" that Firefox lacks. If you're not into that, I don't see a reason to install this. I do it only for Piped (privacy frontend to youtube) to keep my mind off the web as I eat.
Want your new tab to be something other than firefox's two options? This is for you! I just use it to make my tab duckduckgo tbh lol.
I used to use this to give me RSS feeds for practially every website for years, however over time the number counter gave me some itching need to click it, which was pretty bad for productivity and there's no way to disable the counter either. Which is why I got rid of the extension. This is the only reason why it's C. Otherwise, it's a perfectly fine way to get updates on your favorite websites and tumblr blogs.
I rarely, if ever need to search an image, but when I do, this is the king of doing so.
6. Jstris+ (userscript ver) and/or tetrio plus
I use this cause I like playing (single player) (poorly) tetris. If you don't play tetris don't get these IG. If you do, you probably might not need these unless you like pretty visuals like I do. IDK.
If you're using archive.is you probably don't need this, however it bypassed pretty much every paywall I've come across. Only non-official addon here.
I use this for archival cause I am extremely lazy and sometimes don't want to directly save if my clipboard gives me the same image quality results as the site. Doesn't always work though.
Ever get an extension that you think you will use all the time but don't? Ruffle is that extension. Flash on the internet died before it was ever discontinued. Sad but true.
Setup is extremely annoying but helps archive videos from sites where otherwise it's next-to-difficult to archive from. More recommended to just use yt-dlp though.
And that's it! Feel free to ask questions if you have any.
