The Gentlemen Season 2 renewal confirmed via Variety with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario confirmed to reprise roles as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass
Jamesā performance as Eddie functions almost like that of a straight man. He is a pillar of zen amid constant madness, which is why āThe Gentlemenā works so beautifully. Yet, as one managed challenge creates another, his balmy disposition morphs into something more sinister. Intrigued by Susie and her ability to get shit done...the pair each have distinct ways of solving problems, but they find themselves interested in one another, even when suspicion colors the building chemistry between them.
Aramide Tinubu - The Gentlemen: TV Review (Variety)
you canāt give me two emotionally repressed morally grey characters with intense sexual tension who would kill for each other but also wants to kill one another and not expect me to ship them

something's got a hold of me lately .
this scene is actually so underrated because what do you mean they were just *making intense eye contact* without exchanging a single word but you can feel the palpable tension rising and burning smoke from your tv screen

I would love to hear everyoneās thoughts on the role Princess Rosanneās character played in the show. Feel free to comment or submit an ask so I can reply!
My personal feeling on this is:
The Princess and Susie represent two different aspects to Eddieās life. Rosanne represents the āpurityā elitism is often misconstrued for in Eddieās former aristocratic life before the truth of his fatherās dealings with the Glass family came to light. Where as Susie represents the dark side of the business, and it explains while Eddie tried his best to keep Susie at an armās when he was trying to stop himself from getting involved further with the Glass family.
I also believe Ritchie, his team and Netflix were trying to gage the audience response behind the scenes to both the Princess-Eddie and the Susie-Eddie dynamics to see which one garners a better response. In my opinion, I don't think the Princess's character added anything substantial to the plot. It's hard to push forth a side character as a love interest for the male main character and expect the interest of the audience when youāve already set up so much unbridled tension and layered complexity between him and the female main character. Especially when that female main character is such an established strong powerhouse like Susie, who is already a power player in her own right.
Itāll be interesting to see how the dynamic between Susie and Eddie will change now that heās no longer attempting to remove himself from her and theyāre equals, not to mention the obvious audience investment in their relationship.
I fully understand that the reason Bobby Glass insisted on Eddie being involved with the car theft in episode 3 (when it had nothing to do with him) was because he wanted Eddie to sink deeper into that world, and realize how much he fit in.
However it is deeply funny to me to imagine that Bobby just wanted to set up Eddie and Susie.
every angel of life needs her angel of death
Something I donāt see anybody talking about is how Susie didnāt start applying pressure until her dad outright threatened Edwardās life.
Itās subtle, but in the episode 5 scene where she visits daddy glass in jail, sheās the one to say that Edward wants out and that they should start thinking about solutionās until he point blank tells her āno one walks awayā and āIāll chop his head off.ā
I only realised this on my second rewatch. On my first two watches, I always thought it was strange how much she pushed for Edward to stay in the business and get more involved. Like, I get it girly but itās getting desperate.
But then I realised she is desperate, because sheās trying to save his life.
AND she was actually quite nice about it when you think of her circumstances. Yes, she was sneaky but she still managed to give him choice and agency, and giving him a lot more of her trust than he was probably entitied to.
The first two episodes of the gentlemen establishes her (mostly through the jethro reveal) as this give no fuck stone cold killer girl boss, and she is that. But sheās also protective and caring and impulsive and trying her very best to be taken seriously in her male-dominated world.
Anyways I love my girlboss who also sometimes girlfails but itās okay because she girlpicks herself up everytime
along the way eddie started meaning more to susie than just a business associate and thatās why when henry collins told her theyāve āgot her posh boy on the hooksā she felt the worst of his betrayal and she reacted with her emotions and went to the gospel even after that phone call with bobby glass in this essay i willā
And thatās it. Thatās the whole show.
i just noticed in the last episode of the show that when eddie hands susie his family ring before he asks her to be his partner sheās wearing rings on every finger but her pinky like call me delusional but iām choosing to believe thatās some professional level foreshadowing

susie glass is definitely top three in the history of girlbosses to have ever girlbossed but sheās also mastered the art of babygirlism which makes her the best at what she does because yes she murders people your honour but i donāt know how you can look at her and not think sheās innocent
