He congratulates Aziraphale on his little trick, but in light of what's at stake, he unfortunately has to tell Aziraphale that his magic trick isn't good enough for the place where he's going to perform.

BUT at no point does he tell him that HE, Aziraphale is not enough. It's not like in heaven, where he's constantly belittled. Crowley shows the problem and gives the solution. "Okay, this trick isn't enough, but I know you're quite capable of finding one bigger (not better, just bigger) and executing it."

Aziraphale, in low-esteem mode because of his dear fellow angels constant behavior with him, is of course down.
