Danny would be relieved if it turned out to be more interesting to the ghost than pranking people, because otherwise heâd have to deal with the people complaining about the pranks. Maybe this would be a win-win situation.
âUh, anything, really,â he replied. âMaybe ⌠What other creatures are there that are similar to ghosts and ⌠hitodama?â He pronounced the word slowly, making sure to get it right.
Masago chuckled at the boyâs pronunciation, but didnât bother actually correcting him. Seeing him struggle with words would make up for the pranks he couldnât pull.
âOh, there are tons... Princess ghosts that are out to kill, ghosts of children that can bring luck or misfortune. Or ghosts of female royalty that used to be pretty but have lost their youth and now eat those that cross on their property.â Counting on his fingers he hummed, trying to remember if there were any examples nearby he could show him.
âWhere would you want to start?â
Conan really didnât want to waste most of his day humoring the puppy, but he had nothing else to do. Following him with a sigh, he allowed himself to be dragged to the station where he was prompted to approach the map.
Looking bored and slightly annoyed, he glanced over the map for a second. His gaze them dropped to the puppy, âwhere am I supposed to be looking?â
He barked loud, trying his best to point at the station he needed to go to as he stared up at the map, but no matter how hard he tried, he was simply too short to reach it.
Making a sad noise he sat down, staring at his paws as he hit the floor in frustration. All he could do was hop on the kidâs shoulder and hope he could reach the name, but it seemed impossible.
He still tried, however, turning around quickly and running around Conan then jumping on his small shoulder while hoping heâd not hurt him or cause him to fall over. Luckily enough the boy kept his balance as Masago once more pawed at the railway map, this time just able to touch the name of the station heâd needed to go to.
It was a small victory, but the puppy wagged his tail happily, glancing down at the boy in the hope he understood.

âAh, sorry,â Danny replied, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment. Man, did he feel dumb right now. âWould you mind teaching me, then?â
Masago chuckled, then rubbed his chin, glancing at the ghost opposite to him. âSure!â Leaning back to look up at the sky he put his arms behind his head, grinning slightly.
âWho knows, maybe itâll be more interesting than pranking people.â He knew enough locations to show him more about ghosts, which would be fun to visit in itself. âJust shoot questions at me what you want to!â
Blinked, as he took the proffered clothes â and changed quickly, as the man left. Kaito tried not to linger too much on the various things that continued to feel wrong about his own body, instead focusing on getting the clothes on as soon as possible.
Which was simple enough to do, really. Once he changed, he followed the other downstairs to the office and then to the restaurant, keeping silent as the shadow he was apparently pretending to be. Sat down hesitantly, but â slightly contentedly, tempted to pull his legs up in the chair. Didnât, though. Felt like such wouldnât exactly be fittingâŚ
And spared a slight glance towards the food. Didnât make any move towards it, just noting its presence before his gaze started to wander around. Was careful not to meet anyoneâs eye, though.
âYou have to at least take a bite, kid.â Masago said, glancing at the boy as he observed his surroundings. âUnless you want an orange, they have them in stock here âspecially for me.â He didnât mention that the owner of the bar was part of his little group of reapers, and that heâd not given him much of a choice, but some things were rather left unsaid.
Pricking at his own pancakes he glanced at his watch then at the door, wondering if anyone would show up early today. Mine had a habit of always being early, but he hadnât spotted the nurse yet.
âI hope you donât mind having people around. There should be four coming over, five if weâre actually complete today.â Theyâd probably start walking in any minute now, so it was better to warn the boy in advance.

Case of the Stolen Designs
@detectivexboys, @littledetective
Sheâd taken her lunch break to go out and look for their classroom quickly, but running around, Maiko realised she didnât really know what class they were in. She felt a bit stupid for not asking beforehand, but she was already stucl in the crowd of students heading out or down to the canteen.
Looking around through the classrooms she passed she searched until she found the group sitting in class 1B and coughing loudly she approached the four.
âExcuse me? Youâre the detective boys right?â She glanced over them, from the girl with the hairband and large boy to the boy with freckles and the boy with glasses. âI have a case I want you to solve!â
âWhat are you talking about? We only started a few minutes go. Come on, Iâm going to help you figure this out so you and your friend can rest easy, okay?â Conan lifted his head long enough to give Masago a reassuring smile, or what he hoped was reassuring. The case was old and the lack of physical evidence made things a little harder on the tiny tantei, but he was too stubborn to give up after promising that heâd help.
He did have to acknowledge that it might take more than a couple of days for them to solve it, but he hoped that he would be allowed to keep the information provided to him.
âHere you go,â Azusa leaned in carefully and set down a plate of sandwiches between them while trying to discreetly glance over the things spread out along the table. She looked like she was about to dismiss herself when she noticed something, âwait, I know that place. I have a friend that lives on the second floor.â
âYou do?â Conan sat back and took a sandwich into his hand.
âMhmm. She told me that someone on one of the higher floors was arrested for drug dealing, if I remember right. She said there was something else, too, but I canât remember.â
Conan frowned and turned his attention to Masago, âdid any of the other ones have a criminal history?â
It was good to know Conan could be so positive about this. Smiling sheepishly he watched as the waitress placed the sandwiched they had ordered on their table.
âThank you miss.â He said, then blinked when she recognised the files. Listening to her story he frowned, knowing exactly what event she was talking about. Itâd been one of the suspects that had been arrested, and he remembered very well who it had been.Â
âThatâd be Orochi-san.â He said quickly. âHeâd been on the watch list for being involved in gang activity before the murder and after we managed to get evidence on him being involved with drugs dealings and the sort. I think he was released last year for good behaviour. Last time I checked he still owned the flat above Akitaâs.â
Grabbing a sandwich he looked up at Azusa. âCan you try and remember what else she mentioned?â
A large yawn and a low, rumbling voice caught Conanâs attention just as the officer spoke, but he didnât come when called by Kogoro. He stood frozen in place, sweat sprouting on his brow and eyes slowly sliding in Masagoâs direction.
Damn! Had he not been subtle enough? He had to admit that there was something exciting about todayâs case, and it had been a while since he last felt this eager to solve a puzzle this complicated. His gumption may have gotten the better of him, and Haibara wasnât there to reel him in.
âEâEight,â he took a step back and let slip a nervous chuckle, âwhy? Thatâs a weird question to ask, Hatano-san. How old are you?â
Eight... It wasnât hard for Masago to not believe the boy, but he had nothing to prove he wasnât eight either. Heâd figure out sooner or later why Conan seemed so much older than he was.
âIâm 29.â He responded, rubbing his chin. âWhy, canât a man be curious?â He gave the boy a grin, but it wasnât hard to tell he didnât fully believe him. Masago was much more than curious, he was suspicious.
âYou just seem... Very mature for your age, so I wondered.â He observed the other, noticing his nervousness, and part of him was sure heâd asked about something that the boy would rather not talk about.
Conan was hiding something.
âWell then, maybe you should head back to Mouri-chan. Iâll handle the rest of the paperwork~.â He ruffled the boyâs hair, then pushed him back into the room where the Mouris were giving their statements to Megure Keibu, making sure he was standing near the two before sneaking off.
He was going to look up everything he could find out about this kid as soon as he got home.

âOh,â there was a small sigh of relief in knowing that she wasnât keeping a father from his family, âokay. Itâs cute that ya wanna buy somethinâ for her. Makes me wonder if I should get somethinâ for mâ niece.â
She didnât mind in the slightest that he mentioned his family, since it reminded her of her own father. He had always been so openly proud of his family, at least from what she could remember. Wanted to spoil his kids rotten, too, but Madison was glad he hadnât.
âIâm gonna go look around,â she waited for him to occupy himself before running off to look at a few things of her own. No surprise when she made a beeline for the candy. It was her weakness, and sheâd be darned if she missed out on the chance to eat foreign sweets.
By the time Masago was done with the hair ornaments, Madison had returned with a weekâs worth of candy and a few other things. She only hoped that her niece would like what sheâd gotten her, but she was picky and hard to please.
âItâs okay!â Adjusting her bags as best as she could, she followed beside Masago. There was a little more distance between the two of them now that she wasnât as nervous about losing track of him, but there was still that same look of awe and excitement on her face.
There was a moment of silence as Madison took in the sights. She quietly admired the gargantuan gate and anything else that was visible from where she stood. She wasnât sure why, but she felt so at peace just by looking at everything.
Sheâd probably never understand why, but it just felt nice.
Seeing how excited she was to see the large red buildings Masago smiled, wondering what else she would like to see. He could easily take her to some of the shrines around the city. He could combine visiting them with seeing other sights, just like heâd done now, but that would only be possible if sheâd want to.
âDo you want some green tea ice? They have some at the stand over there.â He asked, pointing at a small stall where people were lined up for what seemed only matcha tea products. âIâm not sure if youâve had it before, but itâs pretty good.â
Once theyâd had some ice and walked around long enough he could take her to the Amuse museum just a short walk away from here, and after that they could hop on the Skytree line to visit the Tokyo Skytree, walk through Sumida park or even take the Tokyo cruise, maybe even all if those if he planned it well.
Danny nodded in understanding. âAh. Sorry, Iâm not well-versed in anything outside Amity Park. And youâre a hitodama, then?â He really needed to start learning about other supernatural creatures. That would make situations like this a lot easier to deal with.
Masago laughed, then shook his head. âA hitodama is a soul, a ghost, only itâs a ghost in the shape of an orb. I can turn into a hitodama, but that doesnât make me one.â Silly foreigner.
âIf you are confronted by ghosts a lot knowing about the supernatural might help you a lot, you know?â
