❝ A MATCH. ❞ She emphasizes the word with acrid distaste. A princess shouldn’t have to do anything! “ Look.” As the young girl pokes her eyes just past the screen that shrouds them, her hand shoots out and forcefully pulls Kyon towards her, so he too looks over the grand hall. Noblemen, ministers, even a few other royals from farther kingdoms, make idle banter or are distracted by music and food.
Match means finding an equal in quality or strength…. and she’s almost certain she just saw someone unable to walk and chew at the same time. It’s more than just their vapid eyes and haughty expressions, but one can immediately tell that none of them could possibly have anything interesting to say. Her nose crinkles. “ Do any of them look like they can come remotely close to a match for me? ” Any of these matches would only lead to her misery.
She draws back behind the screen, and he’d find himself behind jerked back by the collar along with her. Her dreariness suddenly dissipated beneath the shine of a bright grin. “ I have an idea ! ” This is typically bad news. “ Just say you’ll do it. And also, you’re not allowed to say no. ❞
if you had asked me a few months ago what kind of person i thought our princess, haruhi suzumiya, was i don’t think my answer would’ve come anywhere near the truth. you would expect someone of royal blood to be dignified. someone with good manners, who knew how to compose themself. someone quiet and elegant.
i knew commoners with more poise than her.
with this in mind you could probably understand why there was a vacancy in their staff. with the way this girl behaved there it no wonder they were so desperate that they would let someone like me fill in the role. though i don’t know why the princess over here was so eager to drag me into all this nonsense.
looking out over the sea of people the only thing that came to mind is how entitled she sound. go figure, she’s royalty. even still, they all looked to be of high standing. i couldn’t really tell what made them such terrible potential matches. if you wanted my opinion, they all looked to be better company than haruhi here.
maybe that’s it. yeah, there was no way this girl would ever be satisfied with any of those guys down there. actually, i doubt any of them would even want to put up with her. maybe a perfect match was out of the question after all. but aren’t things like this less about love and more about political connections anyway? correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m pretty sure that’s how these things go.
talk about selfish, causing so much trouble for her family like this. actually, no, people like this deserve to have a few struggles every now and then. with all their money and power maybe it’s good to have them humbled every now and then. the only real problem here would be if a refusal to wed resulted in a war.
in my opinion, marrying haruhi off was more likely to cause a war than prevent it.
ignoring the pain around my neck as she pulled me around, i stared into her glimmering eyes. that smile was giving me a bad feeling. she looked like a demon plotting how she was going to take over the world. whatever your plan is i don’t want anything to do with it.
‶ how about you tell me what your brilliant idea is before i make that decision, your highness? ″ i’d rather not be sent to my death, thank you.
