God she hated this. She hated feeling this all was nothing when she had been beating herself up about it all since the breakup. While glad he wasn’t hurting over this, it sucked seeing him move on so fast. “I don’t think he would, but I need to make sure.” Things were different now and she wanted to make sure Antonio was still okay with Sammy seeing the other man. She nodded and took a deep breath. “Don’t joke about that. That’s all I’m going to think about when you’re out there.”

Harrison nodded, reminding himself that he really had no say in this anymore. Which was a tough pill to swallow. “Right.” he uttered, “So are you guys...together?” he didn’t want to ask, but at least if he knew he would have to think about it later. “Not that it’s any of my business, I just..’ he trailed off and gave a shrug. He smirked. “Don’t worry. That almost never happens. In all my years of racing, it’s only happened once. And that was after they started putting cages around the stadium.” he assured her. He ruffled the boy’s hair. “We’ll be fine. Right, buddy?”

With everything going on in her life, Nancy’s phone basically was reserved only for things from and about Hal. Anything else, she just ignored. That included things from Harrison. It wasn’t on purpose and really, she didn’t truly realize it was from him. She was ignoring things from Anne-Marie and Sylvia too. She just wasn’t in the proper mindset to talk to many people. She wasn’t even down at the bar when one of her bartenders came to tell her Harrison was there and she walked downstairs looking like a mess to see him. “What? What are you talking about?”

Harrison was hoping that it would put his mind at ease to see her again. He wasn’t really sure where he stood or how he was feeling about her. There was definitely something there. Why else would he have blurted out to Franny that they were dating when they weren’t? Although he liked how they had been reconnecting as friends and was worried that saying anything could ruin that. Who knows how Nancy was feeling when he hadnt heard from her in weeks? He saw her disheveled state and was taken aback by her words. “Well..I haven’t heard from you in a while. I mean. I’ve been on tour and stuff but, you haven’t answered my texts, Is it because of the birthday card I sent you?” he smirked trying to keep things light. “You look,” he paused choosing his words carefully. “Tired. Is everything alright?” 

Location: The Pit Stop

Harrison had to leave town to do some promo work for the release of his new bike, and after spending some time in various states, he decided to visit his sister in Canada for the Easter weekend. He hadn’t seen her since Christmas and since Jane was the only living family he had, he knew it was important to make time for her. He hadn’t talked to Nancy since before he left. He had sent her a text after the night she stayed with him, and got no response. Then he got so busy that he didn’t think much of it. He only worried when he returned home and still had not heard from her, and when his texts to her went unanswered. He was beginning to understand how she must have felt when he had done this to her before they broke up, even if there was no text messaging back in those days. It hurt a little, because he considered her a close friend and worried that maybe it had something to do with her sleeping over. She hadn’t even sent him a text when he had left a birthday gift for her at the bar weeks ago. Since he wasn’t a fan of communicating through text to begin with, he decided to talk to her face to face and find out what was going on. He went to the bar and asked for her, sitting down at an empty table while one of the staff went to get her. He looked up seeing her coming. “Good thing I didn’t hold my breath waiting to hear from you,” he joked.

It was strange how off she felt by hearing him talk about this woman he was seeing. It made her question their relationship and how much they meant to each other. Maybe that’s why it was easier to end things than to fight to stay together. She swallowed a she looked at him and nodded. “That’s great. I’m happy for you.” She said softly and looked down at Sammy as he talked before back up at Harrison. “Um, yeah. I’ll make sure it’s okay with Antonio, but I don’t see why not.” She said. “You know how much he loves races because of you.”

“Thanks, Fran.” Harrison looked at her, wondering why he felt the need to do this to her. He wasn’t doing to hurt her so much as it was to show her that he wasn’t hurting over her anymore. Not nearly as much since Nancy had been around, but they were only friends and it wasn’t right for him to lie. “Why would he have a problem with it?” he questioned. Even after all this time something about the mention of that name grated on his nerves. However, he wanted to keep things civil. He shrugged. “Well check in with him or whatever you need to do.” it stung a little realize that Harrison was no longer a part of this family, as much as he wanted to stay in Sammy’s life. But he reminded himself that there were more problems when he was. “I promise I’ll look after him. As long as any stray tires don’t come flying at us, we should be good.” he joked, winking at Sammy before laughing a little.

Franny listened to him talk and was just unsure how to feel. Part of her was happy he was finding someone, but also made her feel unsure what they meant to each other, but could she blame him? She didn’t exactly treat him well towards the end there. “Right. Well, thank you…” She said and took a deep breath to help her process this. She heard who it was and she was surprised the man knew the woman who owned the sports bar. “I think so.” She said and wasn’t sure. “I didn’t know she lived in town.”

Harrison knew that he had dug himself too deep to admit that it wasn’t exactly true. Besides, he had been sure by now that her and Antonio would have been together, but he didn’t want to ask. He didn’t think her answer would make him feel better either way. He just nodded. “Yeah. She’s from here. But she was doing this student exchange thing in Vancouver when we first met. It’s kind of weird how much history I have here,” he said as he had to admit it was a strange coincidence that both her and Franny ended up being from Fallbrook. He looked at Sammy and smiled a little. “It’s great to see you, buddy. We’ll have to hang out soon.” he said knowing things were confusing for him now. “Actually, I heard there was a dirt bike race in Williamsburg at the end of the month. Maybe I could take him to that?” he suggested. He had promised Sammy that he would still be around and he wanted to stay true to that, even if it was hard. “I’m not racing, I just thought I might check it out.” he explained to Franny.

“I wasn’t going to give you the satisfaction back then telling you it was for sure what happened.” She grinned at him. “Well, neither do I.” Both had definitely proven that not just back then, but now too. It was just how stubborn they were. “Then clean your sheets.” She said back and shook her head, but she made sure there wasn’t any crumbs before she got comfy next to him and instinctively held her arm out for him to get closer. It was really like they were teens again. It was funny how things like this came back even after all these years. Her heart raised a little as he rested her arm on her and she looked over at him. “I don’t know. I might not tell them. I texted Shelby to tell them I was at a friend’s.” She told him. “I mean, that’s not wrong, right?”

“Well you’re not a very good liar, because everybody told me.” he said. He rolled his eyes when she told him to clean his sheets. “I’m going to have to.” he muttered. He didn’t know why it occurred to him to ask about her kids. All they were doing was sharing a bed after all, to sleep and nothing more. But they probably wouldn’t have believed that. It was one of those things that only really made sense to them. To anyone else it would probably seem weird. “No, I don’t think so.” he said. He rested his head on her shoulder, closing his eyes. He drifted off to sleep soon after, comforted by the warmth of her body next to his. He didn’t wake up at all through the night, like he had been doing a lot since the break up with Franny. Waking up and remembering that he was alone and not being able to go back to sleep, but he didn’t have that problem. He woke up when the sun started to fill the room and he rolled onto his side slowly to reach for his phone and check the time. “God, it’s almost noon..” he muttered. He couldn’t remember the last time he had slept this late.

     “REALLY?” like with most children, his mother’s childhood remains a somewhat of a mystery to him, and harrison’s revelation only captures his interest too well. “what kind of stuff did she used to do?” the spiteful part of him wants to see just how much of a hypocrite his mother is being towards him, but the more curious part wants to know where she’s coming from.

he watches harrison down the rest of his drink, how quickly he finishes it - years of practice, probably - and tries not to be so disappointed when his question about harrison’s ex-fiancee is shut down. “okay. we don’t have to talk about it,” he acquiesces. “but that means you’re a single man now, right?”

Harrison gave a light chuckle bringing his glass to his lips. “Things I don’t think she would appreciate me telling you about. But let’s just say there was a lot of late night parties and trouble. I mean it was the 80′s. We had to find ways to entertain ourselves.” he shrugged before taking a sip. “And besides, parents weren’t as strict in those days. Or maybe that’s just a myth.” he said wondering if it was just the fact that they didn’t have cell phones in those days, and it was more difficult to keep tabs on where your kids were and what they were doing because his mom certainly had a lot of rules for him, but he still managed to get away with a lot. He nodded. “It does.” he said dryly as it was still something he was getting use to. He shrugged. “But it is what it is. I think some time alone is what I need right now.” he admitted,

“It has.” While she actually hadn’t been using the shirt to clean, she had worn it a lot over the years and still did. It was something she usually wore to bed, but she was wondering if one day she could just surprise him with that. She couldn’t help the little smile that came over her face as he said she was his, even if it was mentioning to back when they were together. It was always something she liked hearing. “Oh, I remember. I may have punched Tina Peters one day over you even though I told you I didn’t.” She grinned and took a bite of the crisps she had. She shrugged as Harrison called her a pain in the ass and smiled. “You still dated me. And like you weren’t a pain?” She asked and sat back as the movie started. “He won’t. And if you didn’t want me to eat in bed, why did you bring treats to bed?” She asked and took another one before finishing and turning off her lamp to lay next to him.

He smirked hearing her say that she had punched a girl they went to school with. “I knew that rumor was true.” he chuckled. He knew she wouldn’t have stood for such a thing despite her telling him otherwise. Nancy had always been able to handle herself. A quality that he was attracted to. In fact, his fiance before Franny had reminded him of her in a lot of ways. “I don’t care if I was or not.” he said matter-of-factly as he he drew the covers up closer to them. “I didn’t say that you couldn’t. I just don’t want ants in the bed later.” he said. He did eat in his bed when he was by himself after all but he always heard his mother’s voice in his head warning him about ants. He knew that his mother had really cared about Nancy and was so mad at him for the way he pushed her away telling him that he had ruined a really good thing in his life. Maybe she had been right about that after all. As the movie went on and he started to feel tired, he moved closer to her. Perhaps just out of habit. He sort of felt like he was seventeen again, sneaking into her room just to be close to her. He was also cold and she felt warm. He rested his arm on her after a moment of hesitation. He didn’t know if she would find this weird after all these years, but he really did sleep better when he was with her. “Are your kids going to be okay with you staying here?” he asked as he rested his head close to hers on the pillow. He had a feeling her son might not be.

“I don’t think you have to pretend.” She teased and watched him. Despite the moments she felt irritated by him, she wondered if they would’ve stayed together for this long and if her kids would’ve ended up being his. It was funny to her how she thought about that so much when she was younger and still the thought came up now. “Did I not mention I use it to clean the bar?” She teased him a bit. She never would’ve done such a thing, but she had to get a rise out of him somehow. “Don pointed it out to me once.” Nancy explained. “He did?” She asked curiously. She did remember how they were when she got there, though. She was this fresh faced, American girl and everyone tried flocking to her. It was strange, but she was glad to have fit into the crowd with Harrison then. “Thanks.” She rolled her eyes and looked down at her snacks. “I can handle scary.” She argued. “But you can put on whatever you want.”

“I’m just glad it’s been put to good use.” he retorted sarcastically. He nodded. “Obviously it would have been pointless. You were already mine.” he looked at her, smiling a little. “You know lots of girls were jealous of you, too. And that’s not just me being full of myself. A lot of girls asked me out before you came along but..” he trailed off and shrugged. He had been something of a flirt before Nancy but after what he had been through in middle school, he was so confused about himself and closed off. He became so angry and had been so nasty to his mom and even his sister that she had sent him to stay with his grandparents that summer just so that she didn’t have to deal with him. “I guess I just wasn’t ready for that. Until I met you.” he explained. “Even though you were a pain in the ass,” he added before he started the movie. “Alright, but don’t blame me when Freddy comes into your dreams tonight.” he teased her, sinking under the covers more. He liked the feeling of having her next to him. It had always been comforting. “Don’t get any crumbs on my bed, or my mom will be haunting your dreams.” he added before he turned the lamp on the table next to him off.

Ebony was typically not someone who was nervous around others due to her high level of confidence and rather chill demeanor overall. “Sorry..” she muttered before pursing her lips and looking off to the side for a moment. “My ankle is fine, I’ll just head home soon and take a look at it. Shouldn’t be anything a little Aspirin can’t handle!” she finally smiled back at him, pulling her long, wavy hair up into a ponytail to get the heat off of her neck.

“It’s fine. Really.” he insisted, feeling remorse for being so sharp with her earlier. It was an accident after all. In a crowded space like this it was bound to happen. He shrugged. “A couple more drinks and some ice and you won’t even feel it, trust me.” he told her, having been injured many times over the years both on and off the track. “Do you want another one, since I’m heading that way anyways?” he offered, pointing his thumb at the bar. He needed a refill since most of his had spilled.

“Still older.” She teased him like they have so many times in the past when they were younger and even a little recently after reconnecting. It was probably something they would always do ant it was kinda comforting in a sense. “Well, its too late now.” She joked and wondered what exactly he would’ve done if she would’ve called him out of the blue just for what she was craving. “Well I’m definitely keeping you around now.” She said before stopping and looking back at him. “You didn’t. You could’ve reached out to me.” They both could’ve reached out, but they didn’t because they were too stubborn to do so. “I did not ruin it.” She said before pausing. “It may just gotten spit up on a few times.” She admitted to him. “Hey, respect.” She pointed at him before she finished changing. She knew her body had changed since he last saw it and maye right now other than her legs, she didn’t want him to see any of that. She got comfy on his bed and grabbed her drink as she looked at his screen. “I did not.” She pouted a little, but she definitely did. Now, she would never, but then, it did freak her out a little. “What I remember is for months after everyone kept going ‘I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy’ to me.” She rolled her eyes. “Bad enough I ended up with her last name.”

He rolled his eyes. “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.”He made a point of shielding his eyes with his hand while she changed, despite thinking she was being ridiculous. His heart warmed a little when she said she was keeping him around, but he knew that she probably meant it figuratively. He couldn’t help but wonder how things could have been different for them if he had not started being an asshole to her. Maybe they would have still broke up at some point, or maybe not. Maybe they would have remained friends. There bond felt so close even now that it was hard to imagine that they had been apart for more than thirty years. He cringed when she told him his favorite shirt had been spit up on. “I’m just surprised you haven’t shredded it into rags by now.” he told her. He let out a laugh before he shifted on the pillows to get comfortable and opened one of the small bags of chips. He let out a laugh. “You did? I didn’t know that. It’s been years since I’ve watched it.” he smirked when she repeated the line from the movie. “Probably because they were jealous. Everybody was jealous when I started dating you. Ricky Turner threatened to beat me up I think, because I got to you before he did.” he shook his head. He started eating some of the chips and got under the covers. “And I’ve heard he’s on his third or fourth divorce now, so I probably did you a favor.” he looked up at the tv screen. “Are you sure you can handle something scary? Or should we go for something that we don’t really have to pay attention to so we can sleep?” he asked.

She shrugged. “Less than you.” She grinned while she hogged the snacks she took. “Oh, I know. I almost went crazy during my pregnancies. For Hal I wanted the crisps and for Shelby I wanted nothing but these chips. Don thought I was insane.” She shook her head and put her snacks down before taking his shirt and wondering for a moment if she should change in his bathroom. However, she noticed he was changing right there and she tried not to look at him and took her shoes off to change herself. She was about to remove her shirt when he looked at her and she cocked her head. “I didn’t know you looked for it.” Though, she probably figured because when she was packing to go home, she kinda did it out of spite that he was being mean to her and the other reason was it smelled like him and she felt she needed that. “You realize it won’t even fit you now, right? And turn around. I gotta change.” Nancy rolled her eyes and waited before she took her shirt off and put his shirt on and then took her pants off before putting them aside and sitting on the bed.

“Not by much.” he argued. They use to have this same argument in their teen years except it was the other way around. Harrison would laugh because he was older and would get his drivers license and be legal drinking age before her at the time. “If I would have known I would have sent you some.” he said. “Like I said, I have connections. I wasn’t about to move to the states if I couldn’t ever have all dressed chips again.” he said. “Yeah. I thought my mom donated it or something. I may have even yelled at her over it.” he said, thinking back. He scoffed. “So? It was from their 79 tour, it probably would have been a collectors items if you hadn’t stole it and probably ruined it with your smelly armpits.” he teased her before he frowned at her words. “Fine, geez. It’s not like you have anything I haven’t seen before.” he said. He didn’t think it was a big deal since they had definitely seen each other naked many times. Although, that was many years ago. Before he had tattoos and burns halfway up his arm from his accident. He sat next to her and handed her her drink before he grabbed the remote. “What should we watch?” he asked flipping through the selections. “Look, Nightmare on Elm Street. Remember we went to see that in theaters? You kept grabbing my arm so hard I thought you were going to tear it off.” he commented.
