Hello Operafantomet! I am completely stuck on something and I think you'd be able to help! I want to be Degas' "Tiny Dancer" for Halloween this year, but alas I can't sew...I know, go ahead and laugh! Do you have any suggestions on the "design name" of the bodice? Perhaps if it closely resembles something I can purchase online? Thank you so much in advance! Xx
Oooh, the Little Dancer bodice… It is a surprisngly advanced construction for a seemingly simple bodice. For a “quick and dirty” non-sew, budget version for Halloween I would be tempted to find a front buttoned singlet of sorts, with a structured or ribbed fabric. Like this ribbed tank singlet:
Though of course in cream, if you want to reflect what the sculpture originally looked like when new… but the wax has made most of them brownish. Here’s the costume they made for Tiler Peck in the recent staging at the Kennedy Center, where they had kept the brownish/greyish sculpture shades:
And then add a tulle skirt, a white satin bow in your braided hair, nude tights and and ballet slippers - and voilà! You are the “Little Dancer”.

New York City Ballet in Balanchine’s Serenade
guys lmao I went back to watch some old law and order svu episodes and there’s this one scene where a girl claims her alibi is she went to see the phantom of the opera and to confirm whether or not she’s telling the truth the detective goes, ‘oh yeah I love phantom of the opera it’s so sad when the guy goes to prison for stealing bread’ and the girl AGREES and later he’s telling his partner ‘yeah she’s lying there’s no bread in phantom’
