Sooo to answer your question: as a fic writer, unfortunately, I'm often so busy working on my own fic that I don't tend to have the time to read other fics 😅 (I have this problem with real-life books too)... I do have a ton of Zukaang fics bookmarked, but I've only read a handful.

Orbital Decay by my good friend veggiesforpresident is a fic set after the war (probably about a decade or so after the main series). The Gaang are all adults, and it focuses on Zuko coming to terms with his sexuality and realizing his growing romantic feelings for Aang. It's written mostly from Zuko's POV.

The Avatar Zuko series by my friend the-cloud-whisperer (she has lots of other Zukaang fics too) is really good as well - I haven't finished it yet, but there's multiple parts, so you can really sink your teeth into it! It's an AU where Zuko is the Avatar, Aang is his airbending teacher and best friend, and Zukaang is endgame (Aang is 16 in this AU). Cloud does an excellent job of incorporating aspects of Chinese culture into the fic, and there's a spin-off fic that focuses on Lu Ten that is SO good too.

Could We Have Been by ashleepuff is an ongoing canon divergence AU in which Zuko actually talks to Aang after the events of "The Blue Spirit" (Aang is 14 in this AU afaik). I haven't read this one, but it's in my bookmarks!

The Jasmine Dragon by razielim is a Zukaang coffee shop AU, and that's all I really know lol. It's another one that's in my bookmarks, and it seems to have quite a few kudos.

Some other active fic writers in the Zukaang community that I would recommend checking out are chocomd, ttwhatever (aka my-cabbages-gorl), EmbraceTheFlamingo, and southwest-trickster!

Hi anon! So I’ve answered this type of ask before, but it’s been a couple years, so I’ll give you my updated list of specific recs!

Just a disclaimer that I struggle with actually reading other fics because I’m always busy working on TAatFP, so that’s why this list is a bit sparse 😅

1. Sunlight Through Lemon Trees by swimmingwolf59 - a beautiful oneshot in which adult Zuko helps Aang start to rebuild the Southern Air Temple after Aang and Katara break up. It is a longer oneshot with about 25k words. but it is very well paced, very in character, and isn’t rushed. It also casually features trans!Zuko (FTM), which is super cool!!

2. Orbital Decay by veggiesforpresident - another post-canon fic in which Zuko and Aang begin to develop feelings for each other as adults, this time in multichapter form! I started off as just a reader for this beautiful fic, but now I’m lucky enough to be a beta for it! Veggies does such a good job writing their relationship and fleshing out the ATLA world. It’s still ongoing, but updates pretty regularly!

3. Could We Have Been by prettycatsu - a Zukaang canon-divergent AU in which Aang (aged up to 14 in this fic) and Zuko actually have a heart-to-heart at the end of The Blue Spirit episode and end up falling for each other over the course of the rest of the events of the show. I’m still in the process of reading this one, but it’s so lovely and emotional. AND it’s fully completed!

4. Avatar Zuko (series) by the_cloud_whisperer - an iconic piece of literature in the Zukaang fandom, the Avatar Zuko series is an AU in which Zuko is the Avatar and Aang (who is also 16 in this AU) is his airbending teacher! What I love about this series (aside from the slowburn Zukaang romance) is that it also heavily focuses on Azula and Lu Ten and even has chapters from their POVs! I haven’t finished it yet (I’m about halfway through), but it’s so good. It’s also complete!

5. How To Save (Seduce!) Your Villain In A Few Easy Steps; A Guide By Avatar Aang by NazakiSama166 - A Scum Villain’s Self Saving System AU in which Aang, a dude from the real world, gets transmigrated into a novel about the events of ATLA, taking on the role of the protagonist and vowing to give his favorite character, Zuko, the happy ending he deserves. This is such a fun one, and I really need to catch up on it lol. Aang is a little bit OOC in this fic due to him actually being a real-world guy who gets transmigrated into the body of Aang, but he is so hilarious lol. This fic is also ongoing.

6. Throwing Stones at a Mirror by my-cabbages-gorl - a post-canon angsty oneshot featuring dark!Aang. Don’t wanna say too much about this one lest I spoil things, so please just read it yourself! :)
