So he recognized the fact that what he could do was abnormal. Silent for some time, Saturn eventually glanced down at Quasar and turned away; it almost looked like he was leaving before he stopped and bent to sit on what appeared to be the crumbling remnants of some stone pillar. Although faint, he could hear the cries of Pokemon echoing somewhere in the distance; perhaps it was… A reflex? He had no idea how long N had been living alone within the castle, after all. Understanding the creatures around you was essential, wasn’t it?

That by no means changed the fact that it was just weird. Aside from his relations to Quasar, Saturn was not particularly kind to his Pokemon. Why anyone would want to understand them was beyond him… Unless-

Well, he could think of a few ways it could be useful.

"Have you always been able to do that? Or did you pick it up over time?"

N honestly thought the man was going to leave; and if he were to be frank, the idea wouldn't have bothered him terribly (don't be rude, N, don't be rude). But, evidently, Saturn was still here, and N entertained the question he'd been asked, wild Pokémon coming and going at his feet chattering about nothing.

He didn't really remember when he'd developed the ability, but he remembered talking with Darmanitan and Zorua in the forest as a child -- so, obviously, it had been there most (if not all) of his life. For most of his childhood he'd just dismissed it as normal, until he found that the people watching him in the act, if ever any, were usually confused. Scared, even.

And then there was the fact his English was comparatively very poor until he was around eight.

"I'm not aware of exactly when I picked it up, but I've been able to do it for as long as I can remember. My English wasn't very good as a child, either."

Ah. Wow. N's eyes were drawn to the intricate ensemble this stranger sported (not to mention her impossibly large, dilated eyes, which were sort of unnerving him). Fashion -- he didn't get it. "Who are you...?"

✮ - sleeping habits

N has a harder or an easier time sleeping depending on room or setting he's in, nowadays -- he doesn't often catch enough sleep per se, usually clocking in at about six hours (seven hours tops), but he often lets himself nod off wherever he pleases if he's within his own home. He sleeps best, however, in Anthea and Concordia's old room; in his own he sleeps average at best, poorly at worst; and he absolutely refuses to visit Ghetsis's former quarters for personal reasons. The rest depends, as every room he comes across is imbued with some sort of childhood memory or lingering feeling associated with the place. He doesn't usually have any trouble sleeping at other people's places (but then, when does he ever do that?) It has to be actually dark for him to successfully fall asleep, though.

He's easily distracted by a book (and, rarely, his phone); this is partly the reason why he gets so little sleep. Sometimes it's nightmares, though -- these leave him scared to death, his voice caught in his throat, and for this reason he prefers to sleep with Zoroark (or any visiting Pokémon) by his side.

She said what?

What a little traitor. Saturn gave the Toxicroak a good whack on the back of the head, scowling down at her while she continued to swat in silence. His strike hadn’t hurt her in the least; she was much too well trained for something as simple as a little smack to bother her. Actually, it was the notion that he’d struck her at all that gave her half a mind to jab at him with her toxic claws - killing him through poison didn’t quite seem fair, though.

Not yet.

"… Sorry. It’s just a little - creepy? I mean, you sort of put me off already with how you said you were living in these…"

Conditions? The place literally looked like it was falling apart. Saturn sighed, shifting his weight from one foot to the other in discomfort. “I’ve never heard of anyone ever being able to talk to Pokemon before.”

Shaken out of his self-pity, N started at the sound of the strike, mouth forming an instinctive 'no' -- but obviously Quasar -- irritated as she seemed -- was well-trained and handled it effortlessly, even as N glanced down at her. He still didn't like it, though, and frankly he found himself reconsidering this whole making friends thing. It wasn't as if it mattered, anyway, he supposed; this man was clearly disturbed by N's abnormalities. (He had enough friends. Probably. He thought.)

And his castle -- it was crumbling, but after two years with the world around him exposed to him for the conquering, two years learning and observing and shaping his perception of life for the better, he'd come back here for some reason. Why? It was nothing but a shadow of his (hardly idyllic) childhood, there at his feet wherever he went, loud and ringing in his ears. But he had nowhere else to go, did he? (And then, not many had a giant castle to fall back to, no matter how worn down the place was.)

It was large enough to hold his company and his thoughts, and a former King, a social outcast, didn't need much else.
