i'm rehashing an older thought i journaled about during a summer i was trying to improve my german. i think my expectations of what "fluency" is are a little off. no matter how much vocabulary i learn and grammar i practice, there's no real reason to expect to sound like the average native speaker.
i have speech problems from my audhd neurotype (and migraines don't help) and so i don't sound very fluid even in my native language. therefore, it's not realistic to expect to be fluid in my target languages. im going to stutter and forget words and have have trouble structuring sentences or pause in strange places, no matter how fluent i get.
it just sucks that when a native does it, it's acceptable, but when a learner does it no matter how long they've been studying, people will judge them as not enough. they could be using university level speech and as long as they stutter, they're seen as less fluent (and sometimes less intelligent*) than the person who rattles off less complex sentences.
*i don't believe iq is good for anything, just that people might use the perception of it to treat you as lesser
went to an art museum today. was fairly crowded but i managed okay. i borrowed a folding stool they offered to guests, but i felt kinda awkward and missed my walker.
also i guess i'm a normie bc it turns out monet is my favorite artist now lol.

middle names are hard! i'm pretty settled on quinn as my legal first name, but i'm going back and forth on my middle name.
I've decided on Miles for now bc of the M initial from my mom's maiden name, it's black coded, and similar and the name Michael, which my parents were considering.
i was looking back over my name brainstorming doc and i'm reconsidering Mikaelius (Michael + Louis), pronounced My-kale-ee-us ['maɪ.keɪ.liː.əs], just because it's so extra and why not have fun with it since you barely use it? lol, and Louis from my late grandpa's yard name (Louie), who i really look up to...
sure i could go with Michael-Louis but, somehow that feels too long

someone to remind me to put in my work time off requests, know when the best time to request refills is, to coordinate what specialty to go to or problem to deal with next, make appointments for me based on my preferences, research which doctor is best for me based on reviews, just...make everything smoother for my poor executively dysfunctional and forever foggy brain
in other news, i started playing animal crossing!
people kept talking about how good new leaf edition was (and i never played as a kid and don't have a switch so no new horizons for me), so i just decided to try it out. i've been playing for a few months now and it's pretty cozy!
my village is called Frithby (from old english "friþ", meaning peace + placename suffix "-by") and our local fruit is peaches. i only recently changed the flag to a purple pansy because i like them.
so far my favorite villager is Butch. his nookipedia page says he's cranky but he doesn't come off that way to me?? he was the first to invite me to his place so 🤷🏾 and Ozzie's a close second.
my least favorite thing so far is i had to download a mod (vapecord) to have the right skin color 😑 but it did help when i somehow got some furniture stuck on the ceiling 😂 (had to change the collision settings)
