About Zane Beadles, Founder of the Zane Beadles Parade Foundation
Zane Beadles received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah where he played for the Utah Utes as a starting offensive lineman during all four years of his undergraduate career. In 2010, the Denver Broncos selected Zane in the second round of the NFL Draft. As a rookie, Zane started 14 games and was named to the NFL All Rookie Team. After four years with the Broncos, including an AFC championship, Zane signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2014.
While playing for the University of Utah, Zane met Ryker, a 7-year-old boy with glioblastoma multiforme cancer, a common type of brain tumor. The team adopted Ryker as a member of the Utah Utes family and invited him onto the field and into the locker room during the football season. On February 24, 2007, Ryker lost his battle with cancer.
Zane’s family history with cancer and his fondness for Ryker inspired him to take action. In 2013, Zane to establish the Zane Beadles Parade Foundation.
About the Zane Beadles Parade Foundation
The Zane Beadles Parade Foundation (ZBPF) supports the journey of young people going through life-changing medical experiences. Founded in 2013, ZBPF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that gives the gift of fun, excitement and joy to young patients and their families.Countless studies and personal experiences prove that having positive, meaningful experiences significantly improves patients’ quality of life, lowers their stress levels and improves their overall recovery during treatments for serious medical conditions. Through our Greatest Gift program, ZBPF provides opportunities for these types of experiences to patients and their families during this difficult journey.
With decreasing funding for pediatric cancer research and the rising cost of healthcare, the demand for our services continues to grow. ZBPF is only able to meet this rising demand through the help and generosity of our communities. We hope you will consider supporting our efforts with the Hard Ninety Fundraiser, from February 2-9th, 50% of sales will be donated to the ZBPF. For additional information, please visit our websites at zanesparade.org and hardninety.com

Check out the @EAthleticsOC interview with Courtney Conlogue (@neonboho)
Interviewing WSL Surfer Courtney Conlogue Â
The 2015 surfing season is only a month away and WSL athlete Courtney Conlogue has been getting ready. Not waisting any time since her time back from Hawaii training three times a week and surfing seven. We took a minute after one of her workouts to catch up and talk about the up coming year.  E.A. 2014 must have been a bitter-sweet year. Getting injured, missing 3 contests, then coming back with a force to shake up the women’s title race and finishing in the top 10. Can you briefly walk me thru what that was like? C.C. 2014 was definitely a rollercoaster. Although I had the injury overall it was a really good year. I learned a lot about my training, experienced months without surf and had to stay mentally strong in order to progress when I returned back to my competition. During my time out of the water and my jersey I had to observe everything from the outside and reflect on why I enjoy surfing and competition.Â
E.A. Is there any learning experiences that you’ll take away from the whole process of overcoming an injury? C.C.   Being optimistic and persevering during every low is necessary. You must realize that you can choose to have a burden or an opportunity. With injuries consistency is crucial because with physical therapy you have to be willing to not have success in order to succeed. You get what you put in. E.A. Now it’s time to get ready for the ’15 season. What are you doing to prepare?  C.C. Training of course! Training in the gym and in the water. I am utilizing what tools I found in 2014’s season to be the best I can be when I put that jersey on at my first event.
E.A. What part your preparation do you think gives you the greatest edge over your competition? C.C.  The gym training I do and the team of trainers guiding me. I work on maintaining my power and endurance so whenever I’m competing I’m confident that my body with never be the one thing to let me down.
E.A. Which event are you looking forward to the most? C.C.  Honestly every single one! Each location has its own personality and challenges. I’m really looking forward to this year.
E.A. What would it mean for you to win the title?   C.C.  It’s a major goal and would be a huge achievement for me. The World title has been a dream of mine from the moment I first put a contest jersey on.
E.A. I know you work closely with your shaper, Tim Stamps. Have you been working on any new boards? C.C.  I work very closely with Tim. We are always fine tuning my equipment and making sure it is always magic and a part of me when I surf. We have definitely worked on things for this season.
E.A. Besides competing what are you excited to be working on for the upcoming year? C.C. Mmmm… my golf swing (laughs) and I am going to be working closely with a few charities this year which I always enjoy. I’ll be launching my first website, I’m also working on a few collaborations with my art and designs, and I’m researching an exciting location to travel and surf that I’ve never explored before outside of competition. Other than that I just go with the flow and enjoy the moments.
