I went to see Jurassic Park 3D yesterday, so awesome seeing it on the big screen again!

That’s right. Draw/paint/sculpt/clone some dinosaurs. Feathers, no feathers, eating Seinfeld cast members, menacing Victoria Vetri in a furry bikini, whatever, it’s all good. And yes, Godzilla is a dinosaur.

THE NEXT TUMBLR ART CHALLENGE IS:

“STEAMPUNK SPRING BREAK!”

Once again based off a suggestion from Angel Patten (graphitepusher.tumblr.com), this week’s theme is an invitation to go wild and reinterpret the most arbitrary and decadent of American traditions in a Neo-Victorian context. I don’t really know what to expect but that’s what makes it exciting.

A little late this week because of work and life and stuff. But since I’m the admin, I just granted myself an extension since I was the one who came up with the deadline in the first place. It’s funny how you really don’t have to stick to self-imposed, arbitrary deadlines. I’ll keep that in mind when I’m in line for four hours at the airport later this week.

My contribution for the Film Noir Fairy Tales theme.

Okay, so this is what I turned in in my class (I pulled this assignment from my Digital Imaging class a couple semesters ago). I wasn't entirely happy with it, and still wish to go back and re-do it at some point, but I just haven't had the time.

My professor did a lottery with our fairy tales. He had everyone write down one on a piece of paper, then handed them back out at random. I got (obviously) Little Red Riding Hood. I think Noir and I go to 40s detective movies and stuff. I didn't want to go as far back as Dr. Calgari for my noir feeling. Nevertheless, I decided to do complete photomanipulation for this assignment as opposed to painting anything. This is a total of five photos (figure, hat, light, wall, and wolf) pieced together and edited to hell.

It's not the best thing I've done, but I really wanted to get something up. Even if it's a bit recycled, it's still an entry.

I thought I would go ahead and post the next challenge theme early.  

Two weeks ago, the fantastic Angel Patten (graphitepusher.tumblr.com) sent me a bunch of great suggestions and this theme is one of them!

Your next Tumblr art challenge theme is: Film Noir Fairy Tales or "The Dame Wore Red."

This one is pretty self-explanatory: everybody loves film noir and everybody loves fairy tales.  They're like Peanut Butter and Jelly or Snooki and JWoww: they're great on their own but together, well, things will probably get out of hand pretty quick and someone might have to call the cops.  Also, just to make things interesting, there's one minor restriction: you can only use three colors and two of those colors are black and white.  The obvious choice for the third color is red but maybe you can think of something better.  Something different.

Anyone else notice Cupid looks a little different this year?  Whatever.

A little late this week due to an unexpected onset of sports-related heartbreak.  Anyway, this week's theme was "David Lynch" and while I was going to do something surprising and unexpected, in the end I just went with "Dune," which is easily my favorite David Lynch film and one of my favorite films of all time and has probably my favorite soundtrack of all time.  Seriously, try, just try not to get amped up and ready to punch a bear in the mouth after listening to this:
