Toby’s staring down at a Happy Quinn that he’s never seen before. He’s not sure how to react. She’s lying there, unmoving. Her skin paler than usual, a bandage tied around her head, and her cheekbone purple from the bruising, she looks fragile.

If he’d said that aloud, no matter her condition, he’d have received a punch to the gut.

I’ve never really written romantic Quintis before… but… uh…  I’ll try… 

♡

Every morning, Toby goes to Kovelsky’s and buys both him and Happy hot drinks before work. He buys a cappuccino for himself and a latte for Happy (she doesn’t like anything else). He pays a little extra for the bartender to design a heart in Happy’s latte in the off chance she takes off the lid and sees it. A small gesture, in Toby’s experience, usually goes a long way. Before Happy comes to work, he places the latte on her desk and wonders to his computer, waiting impatiently for Happy to arrive. 

And when she does arrive, she notices the latte, gives Toby a little smile and then picks it up and walks into the kitchen with it. Toby tries not to hover too much and gives her space so he doesn’t follow her in the morning; he saves the mild pestering (aka showing affection) for during the case of the day. 

Little does the shrink know, Happy likes to add a little bit extra sugar into her latte so she does always see the heart design Toby leaves her. And each time she sees it, her day gets a little bit better, and she can’t help but smile to herself.
