something i like about this is that it implies that montresor destroying will is natural for him.

of course he’s letting it happen, he doesn’t try to stop will but it doesn’t seem like it’s entirely intentional. he’s selfish for even allowing will to hold onto him — that can’t de denied — but he isn’t actively trying to hurt him.
