Usually, the cold weather doesn’t bother him all that much. After all, he was able to trek through Modeoheim in his SOLDIER outfit, which is absolutely not designed to give much protection, if any from freezing cold climates. But the arctic like climate of Eidolon is even more chilling than anything his felt, so much so that he feels the need to move around to try and keep his body temperature up as high as he can get it. And so, he does just that.

To start things off, Zack begins trekking through the snow with a light job, gradually increasing his pace. Eventually, his jogging brings him to the village centre, which burns brightly, just as advertised, and is loaded with people. Though he’s warmed up quite a bit now, he feels he may as well finish up with some squats, even if it is in a public place, not particularly caring if the people standing all around stare at him. If anything, he just takes people’s attention as an excuse to put on a show of sorts.

Finding a decent spot with enough room to stretch out, he begins right away, starting out squatting slowly, throwing his arms out in front of him as he pulls up, and repeats this process, eventually settling for a modest pace. He lets out a soft grunt each time he pulls up.

“Alrighty, I’m feeling pretty warmed up now. Man, it’s been so long since I’ve gotten in exercise like this, it feels pretty great! Man, I thought it’d be tough getting back into this but I feel like I can pick up right where I left off!”

       ayano very much so keeps to herself, always part of the background like some sort of ghost. of course, blending in with the snow isn’t entirely possible, given her bright red scarf, but she doesn’t attract too much attention regardless. being around people is still something she’s attempting to become reacquainted with, and sure she’s gotten used to the idea, but she isn’t entirely accustomed ( vaguely, she has to wonder if this is what a NEET feels like ). 

    though, in general? she just didn’t like being the center of attention. sure, the ayano of the past could make friends easily, but ultimately? she’s a shy girl. which is why she can’t help but blink and stare at this man randomly squatting in the middle of the village square like it’s nothing. passerby villagers don’t seem to care ( and honestly, who can blame them? they live their lives with newcomers doing funky things such as, oh, you know, appearing out of thin air ). 

    but still... though the weather’s not unbearably cold with the warmer seasons upon the village, ayano wonders if the man would catch a chill faster regardless. plus, she did hear the snow’s gotten a little slippery too with the warmth. falling because of exercise... ouch.

“No, no… I just got lucky asking. The people here keep looking very expectant of everything I’d ask, so I figured it’s a common occurrence for people to just…” She gave a sigh. It sounds so ridiculous, especially since she couldn’t feel the familiar sensation of magic flowing through all five of her senses. “Magically appear in a snow wasteland.”

She took a sip of her alcohol, sighing as the warmth followed. Certainly it was one way to warm up, right? It did help dispel a bit of their combined awkwardness.Don’t get used to it, Veloce.

“I guess…. I was curious, if you knew anyone that followed from your world to here.” Was the loneliness hitting her? It has certainly been some time since she was without Keritzel and Weirin’s noisy company. She certainly didn’t wish them away, so she was hesitant ( worried ) that it was some sort of isolated punishment for her to be left out here by herself. “I felt like I’d woken up after a dream… and it just turned out I wasn’t home anymore.”

       saying she shared the other’s sentiments would be close to a lie. there is a longing in the stranger’s voice, one ayano knows far too well. she herself wishes to see those she knew again, but that guilty conscience of hers tangles her heart in fear. well, it’s what happens when you abandon them, after all. everyone’s always scared to face the consequences, and a girl playing pretend hero isn’t any different. 

    ❝ i haven’t seen anyone i know yet, but... ❞ ayano clears her throat, dispelling the depressing thoughts from her mind in an attempt to bring comfort instead. “someone in my bunkhouse has people she knows here...” she pauses. “f-from her world, i mean. she’s been here a while, so i wouldn’t be surprised if she had friends, but... well...” she laughs awkwardly, fingertips pushing her spoon around in her bowl. 

“..Thanks. It’s my first around here.. I didn’t realize it’d be so busy.” With that she’s lowered her tray, taking a conservative amount of space for herself. 

She was tempted to hold out a book from her bag and pass the time by distracting herself with the text, or worse, taste alcohol without the influence of her powers ( which meant getting wasted ). But she’s gotten enough glares from Weirin to know that’s not proper, and as a stranger in this land, she may as well behave. So she tried to make due with her own awkward small talk.

“Are you… also from a different place? Brought here?” She inwardly winced. You gave it a shot.

       she offers an understanding smile and a ‘it’s okay, i understand,’ before she’s back to quietly eating her stew. it’s not as though she hated the thought of speaking with a stranger! oh, no, no, of course not! it’s just that ayano simply can’t make small talk considering she’s a newcomer and well... her life has been rather uneventful, she thinks. as of recently, anyway. can’t exactly say snakes are currently her mortal enemy without reason, could she? well. she could, but somehow, she thinks if she brings it up now, she might accidentally spill her life story. can’t have that now!

    except the stranger doesn’t spare her, though it’s easy to see the unease in both of them. the lifted spoon is lowered once more, as if to fill the awkwardness with some sort of movement. small talk... right. she was good at that, once upon a time, wasn’t she?

While she certainly wasn’t a popular one back in town, this settlement had left her friendless all over. She couldn’t help but be alone. Hell, with Keritzel and Weirin she had done little to initiate the friendship. It was with that thought she felt just a bit more lonely. Her social skills ( or lack thereof ) didn’t bother her quite yet- it felt like a due adjusting period before she really considered the implication and gravity of her being here instead of back in Medrisen. 

It seemed as though she’s intruded at a busy hour; all tables she could see have been filled, and so she opted to try her luck sitting with someone who was also by herself. 

“Is this seat taken?” She figured she’d just keep in mind to eat later or earlier, and just bear through the crowd just this once. After all, her food would cool soon if she didn’t get on with it.

       ayano is eternally a kind soul, but that isn’t enough to bring a desire for social interaction. or, perhaps, it isn’t enough to bring her to actually socialize. she’ll speak when spoken to, when someone has turned their attention onto her, but otherwise? she’s grown accustomed to not utilizing her voice at all. though honestly, coupled with her shyness that has never really left her, the ayano now simply feels most at ease alone.

    ironically, the brunette always thought eating with others always made meals taste better. unfortunately, she finds she doesn’t have the luxury to indulge in that. after all, those she’s close to are worlds away, and she wouldn’t want to bother her bunkmates with something as trivial as eating together. and so, she’s settled to eating her stew on her lonesome, that is, until a stranger approaches her.

It was rare for Touya to spend much time within his bunkhouse, prefering to spend more time outside doing something rather than staying indoors. He intended on checking through his supplies as quickly as possible before he left for the day, yet a pair of eyes staring at him seemed to make things difficult.

“…Could you stop staring?” Eventually he speaks up, managing to sound calm despite feeling so on edge that he could snap at any moment. He really couldn’t handle people staring at him, it always seemed to make him uncomfortable. Sighing, he continues packing his bag, zipping up the bag once he was finished. Just as he picked up the bag to head out for the day, he stopped once she mentioned completing a Mayor’s Task.

“’Get a picture of a penguin’? Oh yeah, I remember seeing something like that… Sure, why not.” He shrugs, moving to put his bag on his back. To be honest, he was about to go check what tasks were available too.

       her smile becomes full of gratitude once he agrees, though apologies still glimmer in her dark irises. staring would make her uncomfortable, and if she weren’t worried about souring his mood even further, a few more apologies would pour past her lips. nonetheless, she bows just a tad, head nodding. 

    ❝ thank you...! i’m still not familiar with the area, so going alone is a little... ❞ ayano trails off, allowing the boy to fill in her worry on his own. however, her attention is grabbed by his backpack, brows raising in mild shock. was it truly that far...?

     perhaps they could learn to find solace in the similarities of each other’s predicaments. whisked away on a whim by the frigid winds of change to a land of ice & snowfall, no recollection of how — only that they were brought because of their own inner desires.

     ruby’s no better when it comes to unfamiliar social interaction, the young huntress usually preferring to be introduced into conversation via mutual interests rather than blunt introduction. it’s always a stiff transaction, making her feel robotic, with a surge of uncomfortable anxiety that didn’t quite match her definition of robotic existence. ( then again, she may have to adjust her interpretation of roboticism, considering an earlier friendship at beacon academy. )

     ruby halts mid-step hearing her name called by someone unfamiliar. she looks up much like a deer in headlights, lips barely parted in a small ‘ o ‘ shape, silver eyes focused on her newfound company. ‘ huh ? ——— oh. oh !! right ! new bunk mates. right. yes. that’s me ! heh — ruby rose. i’m, uh … i’m sorry, i didn’t get your name. ‘

     she chuckles sheepishly, one hand rising to bury itself within crimson tinted locks. her other arm drops a satchel from ‘round her shoulder & into her awaiting hand, jostling her form as the weight within falls & then suddenly halts. ‘ i just came back from the crates, actually ! usually i go around the shops & trade with them so they can restock. produce is kind of a high-demand thing here. ‘ a pause. ‘ you just got here, right ? if you wanted to, you could come along ! maybe i could, uh … show you around ! — if you haven’t been around already. ‘

       ruby’s awkwardness isn’t too hard to miss, especially considering the expression the girl wore just upon hearing her own name. granted, ayano is only a mere stranger in her eyes. bunkmates they may be, however ayano herself has only seen names prior to entering the bunkhouse. perhaps it was the red that ruby clad herself in that made it easier to put a name to her face. roses meant red, and ruby certainly fit the bill. except... the brunette can be friendly all she wants, but that doesn’t deny the distance between them. 

    listening to ruby’s words bring a sense of confusion to the grin ayano offers though. she hasn’t been here long enough to know names of places nor customs of trade. currency didn’t exist here— she didn’t understand how shops could thrive in situations like these. then again, she isn’t the smartest either. if it were a certain boy, perhaps he’d understand but ayano? no, looking around would definitely help.

   ❝ i’ll admit, you lost me with all that but... ❞ her head nods, body turning to fully face the huntress. hands fold in front of her abdomen, and her upper bodies bows lowly, rising with a strange grace for a girl with an appearance of one so young. “if you’d be willing to have me, i’d really appreciate it, miss ruby.”

  There’s nothing like exploring new territory in order to become familiar with the lay of the land. Alfyn whistles as he wanders, mind drifting to the topic of if he ought to invest in warmer clothes, what he needs to do to work properly in the Warmhouse with more experienced hands, and similar thoughts. All of it drops when he spots something in the snow, coming to a halt. 

  He can’t quite make out what the shape is from this distance and, thus, reacts the way anyone else would when the first encounter with the unknown in this place was a Whistle: by drawing his axe. Alfyn drops into a crouch, hesitantly moving towards the collapsed figure before gasping when what the thing is registers.

  “ H - Hey now--! ” he cries out, dropping his axe in the snow and dropping next to Ayano. Concern covers his face, hands delicately moving under her in order to lift the girl into his arms. “ You all right, little miss? ”

       sure, her side was incredibly cold right now, but sleeping on the snow? actually quite comfortable. very cold, but comfortable. though really, it’s just her lack of sleep that’s talking. normally she’d enjoy a very warm and soft bed, but apparently her body will take what it can get.

    though, the slight movement rouses her from her slumber, ayano groggily opening her eyes. she doesn’t entirely register the situation, the only thought running through her mind being mere commentary on how cold her surroundings are. she still isn’t used to being wrapped in a cold environment, expecting to be met with searing heat, though the lack thereof seems to bring reminders of how she’s out of the daze.

    ❝ ah... i fell asleep... ❞ she mumbles, rubbing at her eyes. the brunette doesn’t realize she’s being held in the arms of a stranger until her gaze raises, and it’s only then that her eyes widen. “oh! i—” she blinks, looking around. did he find her asleep out in the middle of no where? how embarrassing! 

       there’s something familiar about him... not in the way that she knows him, but there’s an air about him that brings her a sense of nostalgia. it reminded her of herself... or perhaps shuuya...? except she can’t really place her finger on it. ( or perhaps, doesn’t desire to point it out. acknowledging it is all she’s done for a long time, after all ).

       well. here’s the thing about being in a world where you can’t die for what feels like forever. first off, it really does feel like forever, even if it’s only been a couple of years prior to entering. secondly... well, the things a human needs isn’t necessary anymore. sleep? food? after living in solitude for a lengthy amount of time, those sort of things tend to be almost forgotten.

    which... well, it can provide some problems. of course, ayano feels exhaustion and hunger upon coming to eidolon. she eats and sleeps, but only a slight amount. seems like closing her eyes brings a few undesirable images to mind, so she finds she can’t rest for long periods. it didn’t seem to be a problem at first, but... considering she’s currently collapsed in the snow, a little ways outside of the village, one could say it’s definitely a predicament.

       it all feels like a blur. at one moment she had been in some remnant of her classroom, pure white flowers at her feet. the next, she’s surrounding by pure white snow and welcomed into a “home” with strangers accustomed yet misplaced all the same. to say it’s a lot is an understatement— ayano feels incredibly overwhelmed by the sudden change in environment.

    perhaps that was why she quietly stepped out of their shared residence. ayano has always been shy, but coupled with her lack of human interaction for years... well, it isn’t the best combination, you see. so when she hears the crunch of snow behind her, ayano doesn’t do more than turn ever so slightly to greet her roommate, polite smile in place. she hopes it’s friendly, but it’s been so long she isn’t even sure what her own grins looked like anymore. hopefully the other girl clad in brilliant red isn’t put off. that’d be a shame.

just a normal girl that went from living in a never ending world of eternal summer to being plopped right smack dab in the middle of uh. winter? has a liking for heroes and the color red! red’s the color of heroes, after all! oh, but she isn’t a hero. she tried to be, but it didn’t work out too well, unfortunately. she’s not the smartest person out there, you know?

although friendly, it seems hard to get close to her. it’s what happens when you’re alone for, uh. two years or so.

really just cares about the people she loves a lot. a little too much, actually. she just wants to see them again.

full of many regrets. a lot. very many. 

oh, did she mention she can kinda remember how many times she’s failed? yeah. 

she can also project her memories and thoughts onto other people— er, well. she should be able to. if she can’t do it, is she just like a zombie now? scary.

anyway, she’s open to talking to people. she just has trouble not being a cryptic.

she’s rather unoccupied and still attempting to get used to being around people again. her only actual company has been her thoughts for a long time, so she can mostly be found wandering the village or near the bunkhouses. on occasion, she can be found on the outskirts of eidolon, but never too far from the village itself.

also! please keep in mind ayano’s backstory has mentions of suicide. these will naturally be tagged, should they be mentioned or alluded to.
