The Jedi Temple

I love crab. I really do. After much deliberation I decided that if I were to start giving up meat, it wouldn’t be the bacon or the steak that I hold onto the longest. No, it would be the steamed crab, the sushi, the lox on a bagel with cream cheese and capers. 

Unfortunately, I live about 300 miles from the coastline, so unless the crab is served still in its shell, odds are, I’m getting the fake stuff. But that’s ok, because its still awesome. Purists might tell you the only way to make crab cakes is with real crab, but if there’s none around, why not use what’s on hand? 

Because WoW has this wonderful habit of providing 1 ingredient dishes, I took some liberties with this recipe and drew on several different crab cake recipes to make one that I thought everyone would enjoy! So enjoy!

(Oops I totally have 1 egg in the picture, and 2 eggs listed in the ingredients.2 eggs is the correct amount.)

~Ingredients~

1 lb. Crab Meat, cooked (if not already) and flaked

4 Green Onions, chopped

1 Stalk of Celery, finely diced

2 Eggs, beaten

2-3 tbsp. Mayonnaise

1 ½ cup Breadcrumbs/Panko

1 tsp. Dry Mustard

2 tbsp. Fresh Parsley, chopped

½ tsp. Old Bay Seasoning

¼ tsp. Salt

2-3 tbsp. Vegetable or Olive Oil, for cooking

Total Time: 30 - 40 min.

~Instructions~

Step 1.) Beat both eggs in a mixing bowl. Combine everything EXCEPT the crab meat, olive oil, and breadcrumbs into a mixture. 

Step 2.) Mix in the crab meat.

Step 3.) Mix in the breadcrumbs until everything is just combined. Form the mixture into patties. 

Step 4.) Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and begin to cook the patties, about 3-5 minutes on each side. Best served hot over a bed of rice with tartar sauce.

Bonus round: Tartar Sauce

3-4 tbsp mayo

1 tbsp. Sweet Pickle Relish

1 tsp. Dijon Mustard

1 tbsp. Minced Red Onion

Salt and Pepper, to taste

Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a bowl. Use on everything because it’s delicious.

~Results~

They tasted amazing! Though I think next time I may leave the mixture (pre-breadcrumbs) in the fridge for half an hour to let the flavors blend more.

Also known as monkey bread, this recipe is so easy, you could do it still half asleep. Which is good, considering this is most certainly a breakfast food. All you need is a bundt pan (I’m sure you have one shoved into a dark corner somewhere.) 

Normally, you can make your own biscuits for sticky bread, but since I’m doing this half asleep, I’m going to use some pre-made dough. Ok? Ok.  

NOTE: The topping also contains the basic recipe for caramel. If you let the mixture come to a boil, the texture will become more like caramel, which is fine, but does tend to dry harder than it would normally.

~Ingredients~

Biscuits

2 can non-flaky Grands Biscuits (Pillsbury brand or other)

½ stick butter

1 cup Brown Sugar

½ tsp. Cinnamon

½ cup Walnuts, chopped

Topping

1 stick Butter

1 cup Brown Sugar

½ tsp. Vanilla Extract

½ tsp. Cinnamon

½ cup Walnuts, chopped

Total Time: 30-40 min. |  Cook Time: 20-25 min.

~Instructions~

Step 1.) Preheat the oven to 350°F. Cut each biscuit into quarters. Place ½ stick of butter into the bundt pan and place it in the oven to melt the butter. 

Step 2.) Toss the biscuit quarters in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts, and transfer them to the bundt pan once the butter is melted. Bake for 20-25 min. or until browned. Add any extra brown sugar to the mixture for the topping.

Step 3.) In a saucepan, melt the other stick of butter. Stir in the brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon, until the result is a thick, frosting-like consistency. Keep warm or on low heat until the Biscuits are done. 

NOTE: This makes a lot of topping! If you feel you don’t want that much, just half the recipe.

Step 4.) Once the sticky bread is taken out of the oven, turn it out onto a platter. Pour the frosting over the biscuits and sprinkle the other ½ cup of walnuts on top. Serve hot!

Step 5.) Cry because you just realized you still haven’t started the coffee maker yet.

Not bad for pre-coffee semi-functionality.
