you had been friends with chan for a handful of years and by this point he knows that sleeping without your bonnet is like signing a death warrant for your hair
he had actually went to a beauty supply store for the first time when you first mentioned it to buy three different bonnets to keep at his apartment for whenever you stayed the night or wanted to even take a nap, something could protect your hair (it would take a couple of years later to notice that it was more than your hair he was worried about but we'll get to that)
the first time you actually needed to use it was when you both had stayed out longer than planned
you both had planned this outing after your work shift as that was when you were free
after a long and peaceful night catching up with chan, you were dead on your feet walking back to his car
he noticed it, teasing about your yawns and sleepy eyes before suggesting you stay at his house for the night
it's not the first time you have stayed at his house but "overnight" was new. even so, you agreed
more under the cut !
once you got there, after borrowing a t-shirt and some spare shorts, he immediately stated that you could take his bed
he ignored your complaints about taking his bed and lightly pushed you towards it before you flopped onto the bed, sinking into the soft mattress and feeling all of the fight leave your body
chan chuckled under his breath watching you give in so easily
however he stopped laughing as he took how right it felt to have you here in his bed and in his clothes sleeping so peacefully with you curls haloing around you
he makes a noise of shock at the scene of your curls rubbing against his cotton pillowcases and went to his closet where he could finally pull out one of those bonnets and put them to good use
he tried not to feel how hot his face got at the whole scene as he tried to put the bonnet on you without waking you up, biting his lip to stop himself from giggling as you try to swat him away
when he finally gets it on you and you get comfortable again, he quietly leaves to set up on his couch as his mind begins to swirl
by tomorrow morning, he makes the decision that he wouldn't mind putting your bonnet on every night...maybe than just your friend

the one time minho drags you to the dance studio with him, wears you down like no other
you mentioned doing a duet ONCE and that man took the fuck off trying to find a dance routine that both of you could complete
what he did not mention is how much HELL he would put you through to get down the routine
now, don't get me wrong it was fun and getting to bond with him on his favorite thing to do was great but now, you're having to crawl yourself out of the shower and straight into bed from pure exhaustion
you was tore up from the floor up, make me wanna throw up!
forgoing all your skincare and your precious bonnet, you were knocked tf out
and that's where minho finds you (damn his stamina) as he chuckles to himself and thinks that he might have gone too hard on you
he then frowns to see you without your bonnet, you have expressed on occasion how bad it was not to sleep with it or how annoying it would be to wake up without it so without hesitation, he grabs it and moves over to you
he's being as careful as he can as he slips the bonnet on your head, humming at you when groan from him messing with you in your sleep
once he doubles checks it's secure, he turns the lights off, slips into bed, and drags you closer to him
and when you wake up in the morning, he will definitely tease you about being so tired that you forgot your bonnet

this one just happened to come home after a late night with 3racha to find you on the couch, dead to the world, curls looking roughed up by the couch cushions
you're still in your work clothes so he takes a guess that you had a long day and just wanted a small nap on the couch...which turned into you being knocked tf out
he giggles to himself for a bit, trying to be quiet as possible as he tip-toes over to you, crouching down and taking a gentle hand to lift your curls so that he could see your sleeping face
he silently swoons at your smushed face, kissing your cheek, and giggling when you make a small noise
eventually though, he goes to find your bonnet. he doesn't really understand the importance behind it because he never really asked, however, he's never seen you without while you were sleeping so goes to get it without a second thought
putting it on you was a bit of a struggle, he would stop and practically hold his breath every time you moved or made a sound and he sighed out more than once through this very stressful ordeal (not)
after making sure you were still asleep and comfortable, he settles in on the other side of the couch, squeezing in behind you, before promptly falling asleep
waking up to you smiling at him and thank him for putting it on for him made it worth his while though

when you told hyunjin just how important bonnets were to a black girl's every day life, he took it very seriously
similar to chan, he went out and bought some to keep at his place but did it a little more than that and started to design them too
the most recent one was a favorite that he put more time into than the previous: the outside was fluffy with pictures of you and him, his nickname for you, and his artist signature all over it and the interior was glossy silk, with the entire thing in your favorite color
he was practically jumping for joy when gifting it to you and was very excited to see you wear it around the house for the rest of the day
but here he was, weeks after the fact, looking at you as you sleep oh so damn peacefully in bed WITHOUT the damn thing on- NOT TO MENTION the bonnet being RIGHT BESIDE YOU on the bedside table
he scoffed at the sight and almost woke you up right then and there but decided not to because his baby looked so peaceful sleeping
he quietly goes around and picks it up before slowly putting it on for you, rolling his eyes in mock annoyance as you sleepily grumble from being disturbed, trying to fight at whatever was bothering you
couldn't be bothered to just roll over and put it on before bed but now you fight him on it while sleeping? unbelievable
once it is secure enough, he steps back with a small smile on his face because just the sight of you in his work makes his heart full
he's definitely going to be annoying about it in the morning, just being dramatic about how you not wearing it means you don't love him anymore and blah blah blah
honestly just endure it and thank him profusely for putting it on you and keep kissing him till he shuts up

i think through loving your hair, he comes to appreciate his more
he loves how thick and full your looks and always has a hand out to touch now that you gave him blanket permission
he tries not to indulge himself too much or else his fingers won't ever leave your hair
hes always thought your hair was so beautiful that when you offered for him to help out, he was overjoyed
this was the start of him truly putting appreciation to detail, noting that each curl on your head was coiled and spiraled to perfection, not a single strand out of place
his favorite style to do it is wash-and-go's, it's the shingling part that amazes him (and is also lowkey stress relief)
gliding his hands through each section, cradling every curl as you teach him how to help make them pop, he's never felt more excited
eventually, doing your hair helps him do his own
while he could manage minimally by himself, incorporating your teachings of curly hair into his routine really helped him to appreciate his hair
wash day is single-handily one of his favorite days out of the month because being able to appreciate your hair as you teach him to love and cherish his? he's never felt more in love

this one didn't even want to touch your hair, too afraid to mess up your hair
being very unfamiliar with curly hair (for obvious reasons) made him want to avoid doing anything to mess it up
he likes to look it, he thinks its very beautiful with every style you put your hair in but his favorite has to be your fro, it looks so soft and cloud like and hard to look away from and his hands itch to touch it-
when you finally convince him that your hair was gonna burst into flames from a single touch, he developed a very intrusive habit of touching your hair like a cat
imagine a cat pawing at a ball of yarn: yea, that's minho, pawing at your fro and being fascinated at how it bounces back with ease, how soft it is, how good it smells, how pretty it looks-
he can't really control that habit much to his embarrassment and always tries to play it off like he didn't have his fingers knuckle deep into your coils
he immediately snatches his hand away when you even mention it and will act like he did nothing wrong (even though his ears are bright cherry red lmao)
but when you give him the task of actually fluffing out your curls after sleeping one day, it becomes a part of his morning routine to help you fluff out your curls after a night of peaceful rest, going so far as slapping your hands away when you try to help
however it becomes his perfect excuse to "fluff" your hair whenever he deems necessary, you can't see if your hair needs fluffing! so let him do it (and then be stuck under his hands as he just distracts himself playing in your curls and coils)

he loves to wear his curls out around you because then you two match!
it was after meeting you that he became adamant on taking better care of his curls
watching you put so much care into your own, all the products and dedication, made him feel more empowered to do the same for his own (man of principles!)
he wants to know as much as he can so he'll just ask you questions straight up- problem is! baby korean curly hair is different from black curly hair!
even so, he tries to match your routine in hopes that he can join your wash day as a way to bond! he is too happy to re-open "changbin salon" just for the two of you
that first wash day for him was like a religious awakening, seeing your hair in so many different forms was truly hypnotizing to him
he helped where he could, knowing he's not the best at multitasking between his hair and your hair so most of the time he just watched you do yours, watching every curl and coil bounce and sway
he was shocked by how much time had passed by the time you were done (that man was damn distracted and the conditioner has been sitting in his head for way too long)

oh lord here comes the artist
he loves your hair and ever since cutting his, he's made the joke of the relationship only having room for one person to have all the hair
he never had the inclination to touch your hair before, always done in styles or out in an afro, almost too perfect to touch, so when you had offered for him to touch, he would never go back
now it's kind of like his thing to touch a curl or two but he didn't really come to appreciate it until he started to draw it
drawing curls for the first time was an experience for him and he became obsessed with trying to perfect your coil on paper
man is always damn near inspecting your hair, taking in every curve and spiral and kink
stays would just randomly notice a lot more curly headed people in his sketches that are almost too realistic
the amount of drawings you get would be enough to fill a museum

when he grew his hair out to shoulder length and just let it do its own thing, he thought for sure you were making him grow curls somehow
it was long and healthy and shiny and started to bump at the end so this man legit thought he was gonna grow some loose curls
so to prepare himself, he started to bug you about everything you know about curly hair
after lovingly shattering his dreams that he would not be randomly growing curls, he still kept all that knowledge with him and decided to put it to good use when you complain about wanting to do your hair but feeling too lazy to do it
to say you were skeptical would be an understatement
it turned into a case of him proving himself that he could do it, he was very capable! you just need to give him a chance! he is very talented and could figure this out! just please- after about 10 minutes of whining your ear off, you gave in
the whole washing process was a silly affair because han is a silly man that play too damn much, is it cold water or hot water first? maybe he should just mix the shampoo and conditioner together? hey, you can't get up, he still has to do your hair !
omds not to mention all the faces he's making in your face as he washes your hair, laughing as you groan at him and kissing you to make it better
but it was when you finally washed and conditioned your hair that he was really enraptured
your hair in its natural state was so beautiful, man's brain logged out for a couple of minutes just staring
when he came to, he immediately begged to be apart of all wash days and hairstyles from now on

i feel like this boy ALWAYS has your hands in your hair
as SOON as you gave him permission to touch your curls, he just went to town
always wrapping a curl around his finger when you sit close to him, watching as it clings to him and how it bounces back into place (like a kid in the candy store i tell you)
but then he does his own research how curls are taken care of and makes his case to help you actually care for your hair
not to mention, this boy loves to just give out free massages, so wash day is heavenly~
like imagine him shampooing your hair and really putting in work rubbing your scalp- i'm not even mad if you fall asleep right there
he does under the guise of "scalp stimulation" and to help with "hair growth" but he really just loves watching you fall into bliss as he literally rubs out all of your worries through your curls
and it was doing your hair that he really took a look at your hair, the coils, the s curls, the z curls, hell- even the fairy knots were amazing to him
his favorite style is twists! he just loves the way your hair wraps around each other, it amazes him
not to mention, two styles in one! he finds it really relaxing to sit down, rub some oil in his palms and slowly and gently take apart your twists
he will sit there and absentmindedly separate the sections, curling the ends around his finger and fluffing your hair into a signature afro, smiling like the cat that got the cream once he sees the final product
he did try to match one time now that his hair is longer but was sad when his hair didn't hold (that's okay, he's figuring out other ways to match...braids?)

when he first helps out to do your hair, it was after you took it out of braids
he's so used to the previous style that seeing your stretched fro be revealed was interesting to watch
he deadass sat on the counter watching you unravel each braid in complete silence with some hums as he reaches to touch the ends, marveling at the length of your hair
it wasn't until you put him to work that he grumbles a little before doing as told and if he thought unraveling the braids was cool, watch his face when your hair shrinks back down to its original size
he was amazed with jaw dropped to watch your curls shrivel up from its stretched state
watching every curl come back to life is probably the most focused he has ever been outside of baseball and lyric sheets
but nothing compares to seeing your afro come out as you hair dried, getting bigger and bigger by the second
he barely even registered when he reached out to pat it and mumbling how cool it was that it just bounced right back
ever since then, he's excited when you get braids if only to appreciate your fro more when you take them down and let your hair breathe

mane, he's been begging to help ever since he noticed that wash days LITERALLY take up your WHOLE day
at first he just sits with you as you do your hair, all the products and combs and brushes and hair clips and hair ties spread out on the counter top like a puzzle to the perfect hairstyle for the next week or so
but then he starts to feel bad when you complain about your arms hurting while detangling your hair and how it always takes forever to wash AND style your hair
so even though he was a little worried about messing your hair in any way, he offered to help you out and omg girlie, i don't think you'll get away with another wash day alone (if he can help it)
watching as your curls glide through the brush, how they bounce back into place- homeboy didn't even notice he had been brushing the same place for the past 2 minutes
nowadays, he REFUSES to not be apart of wash day
the lil menace will hide your products and clips if you try to do it without him
while on tour, he loves just watching you do your hair over video call in his down time
