When Will tells Hannibal to leave at the end of Digestivo, he goes. And then, a few years later, he shows back up. They have long conversations, drink a lot of wine, at the end of it all they find something that works.

will does the only reasonable thing that someone fresh out of a mental hospital with no support system does - he leaves, and goes on a road trip to the pacific northwest.

after the fall, will and hannibal start new lives in finland. the small town outside of helsinki is by a lake… and nosy neighbors.

will acquires a murderous secret admirer, and learns how much easier the habit of violence can be with an enthusiastically willing target. a courtship through blood and… other means of influence.

i will also plug the shinkon series by iesika bc (without giving too much away) it does feature will refusing to eat hannibal's cooking towards the end

hannibal's an fbi agent. will's a serial killer. he still has a lot of dogs and dislikes being sociable. hannibal still wants to wind him up and watch him go.

will loads the next screen, or at least tries to, one more hurdle appearing with questionable promise: "use previous shipping address?" asks a checkbox, defaulted to YES. the long slash of the mark very confident that this is indeed what will would like to do without really bothering with the nuisance of verified consent, as online shopping is inclined to do. he sighs again in irritation. the timer in the corner keeps ticking down. --- will graham is an entomologist with a bad habit. a shipping error prompts him to dive back into a few older ones.

nothing can touch him here. the quiet returns, his limbs lax. time passes as it will, here, neither slow nor fast. there’s nothing but the rush of the water and the sun above, until he spots something dark in the distance. i care about your life, the dark thing whispers, words echoing right beside his ear. will’s eyes shoot open with a start. (after getting released from the bshci will withdraws from jack, the fbi, and most of all, from hannibal. the bouquet sitting on his kitchen table serves as a reminder that such a thing may not be so easy.)

what if, after being released from the bshci, will grabs the dogs and the can't live withouts and leaves without a trace? instead of sticking around to help jack take hannibal down, will runs across the country to fort worth, texas, where he finds a home and a job training dogs. everyday, he waits for the signs of hannibal's presence, worrying over the old wounds and confusing memories. what happens when hannibal finally finds him?

one of them has to bend. hannibal decides it should be him.

it is said at a holiday party that will graham is the least likely of all the fbi and quantico staff to ever seriously consider having sex with a co-worker. but the universe likes a challenge, at least one co-worker is on the radar, and allergy season is nigh.

hannibal leaned back and looked out the window. “do we talk about teacups and time and the rules of disorder?” he glanced at will. will held his hands in his lap. “the teacup’s broken,” he rasped. will almost said, it’s never going to gather itself back together again. he almost asked, why did you save me? he almost said, I’m not going to miss you. he said, “what can you do to fix it again? there is no abigail hobbs to bring back from the dead, hannibal. what could you give me now?”

“say that I took the...fake relationship thing seriously,” will said, carefully. “say I wanted to fake like I was managing something I wasn’t to trick jack into letting me get back to what I’m good at. how willing would you be to...help?” hannibal leaned against his counter, eyeing will with amusement. “if you are trying to propose i be your other person, your romantic declarations are quite lacking.”

will invites himself over for dinner. hannibal accepts.

perhaps what is called for is nothing so simple and clean as separation or joining. it will have to be a field amputation, of sorts. fast and brutal, and neither of them entirely whole afterwards. but, perhaps, survivable. he will have his dogs and some shredded version of his life back. maybe he’ll move somewhere warm, and leave no forwarding address. maybe abigail will stay in her grave instead of following him. hannibal will have music and art and blood, freedom somewhere far away. if will makes the cut clean enough, hannibal may keep his distance. people have built new lives on less, surely.
