I was not prepared for how wildly different the Altered Carbon Netflix series would be to the books.
I like both, but wow, so different!
Why is Egyptomania Gothic?
'Egyptomania naturally gives way to Gothicism. In a time of scientific and industrial progress, people could enjoy the dark legends of curses and ancient mysticism to playfully challenge their loyalty to logic and reason. Don’t forget that as Christianity dominated western society at the time, paganism and the occult was as frightening as it was titillating for the curious scholar and the parlour room ladies.'
From Rome to Arnold Vosloo's Imhotep: why are we obsessed?
POV: You wanted a dark romance like Ankhsunamun and Imhotep or Gary Oldman's Dracula and Winona Ryder's Mina, so you wrote a story about an immortal man who is convinced this woman he meets is his long lost love.
He's been searching for her for centuries.

It's not weird to reread a book. You watch your favourite films again, so reading the same story more than once is anything but a waste of time!
I always find something that wasn't there before with each reread.
There's a certain type of true love, and it's when the person who read the book 100% gets what the author was going for.
Waiting for your Libby holds like
When I'm not writing or reading, you bet I'm covered in scratches from thorns. Worth it though.
I listened to the audio book of this and wow. The psychological torment is almost Event Horizon, but it's... Colder. Not scary as such, but definitely disturbing.
There are films of Solaris too, so I might have to watch! Have you read Solaris?

POV: You're really into your latest book but you're an adult and it's been one of those days when no one will let you read in peace.

“Ghosts are real” I can see how you could believe that
“Ghosts aren’t real” it’s very fair and rational that you believe that
“Ghosts aren’t real anymore” I’m about to hear a poem or very sad story
“Ghosts aren’t real yet” the fuck are you going to do
Sometimes bad reviews on a book *will* make me want to read the book 😄
