BY ALL MEANS, DIMITRI KNOWS THAT HIS STATUS AS HE IS NOW is almost as good as that of a prisoner of war. he knows claude’s intentions are the best they can be, or the best they can be within the circumstances and the context of matters, but a king with no crown and no political sway, stranded within neutral territory, is as good as a mere tool of bargain. he holds no resentment towards his former classmate, all too aware it was perhaps an undue sentimentality that had him go out of his way to save him from the empire’s hounds, but... he wishes he had joined the chorus of the dead instead of remaining trapped on this limbo, not quite dead but not quite alive, breathing but unable to pursue his revenge.

his vision has grown clearer now, daylight breaking through the eternal night of the past five years, if only enough to call it the beginnings of a dawn. his mind now is aware that vengeance is not all he has, but... with how he has behaved the past years, what else is left for him, what else can he reach for and claim as his that won’t be stained red with the blood of the fallen, the blood of those he has killed in his blind rage?  when the bed he has made for himself is all but a coffin, a shallow grave dug with his bare, bloodied hands, where else should his future lie?

what can he touch that he will not break?

JAYCE ISN’T EXACTLY EXPECTING the sudden approach of diana’s, though to be fair, even if he had been warned, he’d have a very hard time believing  the other would manage such feat without even breaking a sweat. see, he’s a fairly big man. perhaps not the biggest, but still heavy with the bulk of some muscle—the fact he is 6′3 should pose in itself an issue, but his friend simply picks him up like an inconveniently shaped obstacle, the ease in which it is done earning her a wide-eyed stare as he is set aside, lowering his phone for the moment of being, clearly flabbergasted.

JAYCE MARTEL HAS HAD PLENTY OF TIME to grow used to the idea of fame. not only that of the defender, you see: the man has many reasons as to why he’s well-known through all of piltover, from his renown as an inventor to his undoubtedly inflated deeds as the so-called hero of the city. it doesn’t bother him much to admit that half of the talk people go off about regarding his heroics were blown out of proportion by the giopara, simply because he knows he hardly had a say in that—to admit the failure of others does not affect him, after all. he does wonder, briefly, which of the two reasons brings a stranger to his doorstep at a time like this.

if he had been busier, he would have sent one of this automaton to check the door. he isn’t, so he looks through the magic eye, quirks a brow at the odd figure and sighs. a student, perhaps? an admirer? something in between? he does not know, but he figures that if he’s gone through the trouble of getting this far, he might as well bite the bullet and open the door.

so, he swings it open, leans against the door frame. he’s dressed down to the casual clothing he wears in his workshop, disheveled and still stained with the oil of his machines.
