I think people vastly overestimate the relationship hornet has with the vessels but also her personality in general
People like to portray her as very like… violent? Angry? Idk the right word. When in canon she’s nothing but patient and calculated. Her killing vessels is (I believe) based on a desire to prevent the creation of a new hollow knight/a weak vessel killing the dreamers and being unable to finish off the radiance. Imo she cared for the knight because of its strength.
