So, the AA has listed the worst Highways in the Country, just before an election of course - in an obviously cynical attempt to get a share of the impending lolly scramble spent on upgrading said roads...
They are - for anyone interested - in order from most likely to have a fatality to least.

SH58 from Pauatahanui to Upper Hutt: 2 deaths, 13 serious, 47 minor
SH2 from Paeroa to Waihi: 1 death, 16 serious, 49 minor injuries
SH3 from Palmerston North to Ashurst: 2 deaths, 9 serious, 42 minor
SH3 from Ohaupo to Te Awamutu: 2 deaths, 4 serious, 25 minor
SH2 from Katikati to Tauranga: 18 deaths, 35 serious, 95 minor

There’s a write up here with Each Parties views on the issue, you get your standard Incumbent govt telling us how much they’re spending and what a great job they’re doing (you can read through the different investments for the 2015-18 cycle here), the current primary opposition telling us the regions have been forgotten (Although unwilling to front with any Policy Winston will be complaining Labour are stealing his stances within 24 hours, mark my words) and roading is in a terrible state.
You get The Greens querying the validity of the AA’s rating system instead of giving policy and untypically trying not to blurt out their broken record mantra “public transport vegetable oil bus - purple monkey dishwasher.”
Last up you get David Seymour showing a complete lack of understanding as to how roading in our fair country works, by stating his party will give 50% of tax from new building sites to local councils to spend on regional roads in some bizarre attempt to fast track repairs?
Was David aware the issue put forward was for highways not local roads?
Does he know that regional councils have no interest or infact jurisdiction in fixing said highways?
basically is David Seymour actually aware that the repair of all State Highways falls on Central Government, or does he have some sort of larger master plan where the NZTA is done away with and Councils bicker over which sections of our highways they ‘have’ to repair?
2. SH58 from Pauatahanui to Upper Hutt:
