Companies that rushed to replace human labor with AI are now shelling out to have IRL workers to fix the technology's screwups.
Delicious. We love to see it.

Ultimately, she spent 20 hours redoing the copy from scratch â and with her $100-per-hour rate, that meant her client was shelling out $2,000 for copy that likely would have ended up being far cheaper had a human just written it in the first place.
I love stories like this.

So this morning I found out that the RPG Maker forums will be shutting down this year, and itâs really just another depressing thing to see.
If you read the link the company does of course say theyâre replacing the existing forums with new ones, and Iâm sure no one would say the old ones didnât perhaps need a lil bit of a glow up, some tech debt fixing⌠but thereâs a few key notes in there:
They are NOT carrying over any history, data messages etc. from the old forums
They are NOT archiving, retaining or in any way saving the existing forums in any way
They have NOT provided any reasoning past âas part of continued efforts to support developersâ
As an offhand, moderate read, this sounds to me like a desire for some change in the forums but deciding nuking everything is less expensive than rebuilding and carrying over info.
If Iâm cynical, and likely realistic? Probably to increase sales of their latest GameMaker software by making it inherently more difficult for someone getting the older software for cheap pushing it to its limits. The amount of institutional knowledge on those forums is absurd.
And even if it is a benign reason, itâs still terrible because what do you mean youâre doing this with no recourse or potential for change? You sell software that runs on community goodwill? In an era where people are pulling away to open source software?? Crazy.
There are yeeeaaars of answers, plugins, suggestion, community built up on those forums - Iâve used the em to learn and grow my own skillet!!! And soon it wonât exist.
At the very least, they gave a âheads upâ - the deletion occurs mid December, so archiving by the community is possible from now. Itâs just absurd that it needs to happen in the first place.
Itâs just reflective of how the industry is right now - and why itâs so important for communities to grow and build up knowledge together, knowledge that is NOT reliant on a company that can pull the plug at any time in the very name of the very customers, users and supporters they are screwing over.
The good news is that other people are already starting external archival. Here's a couple posted on the r/RPGMaker subreddit:

man sometimes i really want to get back into welding but then i remember that the guys from the first course i took wonât be there and change my mind
comprehensive list of things that happened to me in my welding course with The Guys:
- was the only one to get an A the first grading period. had to stop them from putting me on their shoulders
- became the official classroom mascot on account of i was the only girl. this meant i was an integral stop on any and all workshop tours. was referred to as âOur Lady Helenaâ on these occasions
- almost set myself on fire once bc my prof stood behind me watching me try a skill heâd just demonstrated and he shouted very suddenly very loudly. restarted my heart and asked WTF WAS THAT FOR JOHN and he called me a âgoddamn wonderâ. i almost got third degree burned over a compliment
- mentioned offhand ONE TIME that swords were cool. also mentioned my birthday offhand ONE TIME. one of The Guys remembered both instances and also happened to find a sword in a dumpster so he gave it to me for my birthday
- came in fifth in an arm wrestling competition
- french braided my hair in class bc i didnât have time to do it beforehand. ended up with an audience of like 5+ guys trying to figure out how tf i was doing it
- told The Guys my college friends call me barbie. Mistake. suddenly had all 12 of them calling me Barbarian
- had some down time and made a silly little sculpture with some scraps. The Guys were endlessly intrigued by this and demanded to see some of my art school stuff. had a small crowd around my phone cheering loudly every time i swiped to a new picture
- accidentally mentioned the cafe i worked at. Mistake. several days later all 12 of them came in to bother me
- offered someone a haircut. Mistake. had to retract the offer bc suddenly Everyone wanted a haircut and it would Not Be Fair if i only did one
Soak a toah
I miss animextremist... ;_;

sorry i'm still angry about this but if your excuse for not caring about female characters is because you're not sexually attracted to them you are exactly 0 degrees of rhetorical separation from a redditor whining about how his favourite video game is now "too woke" because the women don't show enough skin
