my theory is if a reblog in a chain has a child reblog (child a) that is marked as mature, and then the chain continues from a separate child (child b), but then the reblog source of both of these is deleted, the resulting reblog chain on both sides will inherit the mature rating

this is entirely a guess but it kind of makes sense to me because if the original reblog is gone it cant really check if that one is marked mature anymore and could just assume it is based on whats left

...or alternatively the shitass auto detection thought a closeup screenshot of one of tumblrs own default palettes looked too close to pornhub
