❛   oh , yeah . no worries , man .  ❜   he pulls his hoodie down . his hand instinctively coming up to trace over his scar .  ( it’s a habit . doesn’t even know he’s doing it most of the time ) nick always feels a little more exposed and vulnerable without his hood , but he tries not to let it get the best of him as he walks through the aisle of records .

she’s still dressed in the outfit from last night’s show when she hears a rap at the door and slides out of bed to answer. she’s draped in way too much pink and fishnet; curves wrapped in what she would call a dress and what other’s would call lingerie. still, there’s no attempt at covering up when the front door is swung open and she leans against the doorframe wearing a smile she almost can’t contain.     “what’s all this, hmmm?”   she’s lit up and giddy, but tries to hide the excitement.     “y’did this for me?”

eyes widen as soon as she opens the door , but he keeps them right on hers . nick is ever the gentleman . he clears his throat and straightens up , an eyebrow raised .    ❛  come on now , riles . you know you’re my best girl . plus , i felt bad for ditching out on the show last night .  ❜   he  shrugs as he hands her the coffee and the rose .   ❛  — am i forgiven ?   ❜

It might as well be just another night for the two of them, seated in the backseat of her car passing a joint back and forth. Not that she minds, valentine’s day was a holiday best avoided for the hound ( more of a heartbreaker than a romantic ) besides hanging with Nick was way more fun. There’s a devious grin that forms as she looks his way —always up to no good ! Without much thought a hand grasps at his jaw turning his face towards her’s, “c’mere ! ” Other hand removing the joint from his mouth before catching them with her own into a kiss. It lasts a little longer than expected, glazed eyes stare into his for a moment before finally pulling away placing the joint back between his lips. “happy valentine’s day bud ! ”

valentines  day  is  just  a  normal  day  for  him.  he  finds  himself  with  no  plans  and  a  lot  of  work,  and  you  know  what?  he’s perfectly  content  with  that.  at  least,  that’s  what  he  tells  himself  when  he  opens  up  the  door  expecting  his  pizza  delivery.  he’s  confused  and  curious  when  he  finds  a  note  along  with  a  single  rose  and  a  black  box.  nick  figures  it  has  to  be  some  kind  of  mistake  and  feels  for  whatever  disappointed  girlfriend  this  actually  belongs  to  —  but  then  he  scans  the  note  and  sees  her  name.  surprised,  he  opens  up  the  box  and  finds  a  necklace.  well  shit,  when  was  the  last  time  someone  showed  him  they  gave  a  fuck?  he  can’t  even  remember.  the  gesture  leaves  him  speechless  and  he’s  grateful  that  she  isn’t  here  to  witness his  reaction.  he  wouldn’t  even  know  what  to  say  and  he  knows  she  would  never  let  him  live  it  down.   he  shakes  his  head  in  disbelief,  how  does  riley  manage  to  catch  him  so  off  guard  even  when  they’re  no  where  near  each  other?

the concern should come as no surprise — after all, she showed up at his door in the late hours of the evening, feet bare and muddy, clothes tattered and soaked with rain, violet pink lips turned downward and trembling slightly despite her best efforts to hide it.    “ I told you - I’m FINE. ”    she insists stubbornly, hazel hues hesitant as they cast upwards towards him, anxiety swelling inside her stomach.    “ I um — I just …”     words tumble past her tongue, looking for any excuse not to admit how LOST she really was.    “ I’ve had a really bad night. ”    more like a really bad few years.   “ can I stay here ? at least until the rain stops ? ”
