Disappointment is a hard thing to swallow. Everyone knows the phrase, “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed,” and everyone knows that is so much worse than someone being mad. The question is why is that so much worse? Why is disappointment so much worse than anger? Recently I’ve been dealing with a lot of disappointment and I think I can answer that question. Disappointment is so much harder to swallow because you expected so much from someone and they really let you down. They ruined your expectations. They crushed your hopes. Disappointment is worse than anger too because it includes anger. When you are disappointed in someone it comes in waves. First you are angry, then you are sad, then you are just numb. Right now, I’m really sad about all the disappointment I’ve been experiencing lately. I don’t want to become numb to the world, but it is the direction I think I’m going in. I’ve always been very open and emotional with people, but it leaves me vulnerable more times than I would like. So, disappointment. It will rear its ugly head and it will make you feel like your world is caving in on itself. It will make you feel like nothing is going your way and there is not a soul that understands how you’re feeling. There are, but sometimes you can be the only person who truly understands what is going on with you. Nobody else is in your head. You have to take this disappointment and you have to get over it, but you also have to let it remind you in later times to be careful with your heart. Be careful with your emotions. Be careful who you let in because anybody can disappoint you. Even you can disappoint you.
