final_reflection [critique]
Much of this experience throughout the semester, I learned a lot about some new words but even moreso I learned so many new ways to experiment. I learned how to mature and develop ideas, flesh them out and find new lights to show them in.Â
The most difficult part to this assignment was narrowing down on a concept and orchestrating an effective piece of work that was simple to understand and conveyed the word accurately. I was reassured that I accomplished that task, so that was refreshing. Another part that was difficult was sticking with a word that was taking a life on its own. It sounds like that is what should have made it easy but it made it that much all the worse because I was stuck on my original vision. So to make things easier, I learned to let go.Â
This opportunity was great to experience self-direction, which I have always feared about in thesis, since first year ever since making the transition from art to design. Although through all of this, I have almost found a flow/ groove that I am comfortable with and can bring over into thesis next year.Â
Initially, I would give myself roughly an 8/10 in terms of suggesting things and a 3/10 on taking suggestions. During the second part, my suggestions I kind of turned into mere observations and would bring it down to 6/10 and taking suggestions (primarily from the prof) 6/10. Selfish to exert what I received, but mama told me to watch out for myself just as much as I watch out for myself.Â
Iâd choose maybe a different word, one that would be more of a foreign exploration, rather than personal piece with my own expectation. Like coming to a new country and taking it for what it is rather than trying to find an extension of something I am already familiar with and being disappointed.Â
