It was a good show. Better yet, a great one. Then again, the boys always put on an electric performance whenever they stepped onstage. That was one of the things you had been looking forward to most about joining them on tour.
The chance to hear some of your favorite songs night after night. To watch the people you loved most doing what they loved most. To feel the charged energy of packed arena after packed arena. When Danny invited you along, saying no never even crossed your mind.
The first several shows were everything you had imagined; loud, exhilarating, unforgettable to say the least. Even if you already knew exactly which song was coming next, it never lost its magic.
And every night after the show, there was always something waiting for you. A bar. An after party. Some new city to explore before the sun came up. You loved every second of it.
But more than anything, you loved not having to miss Danny.
Whenever the band toured before, you found yourself counting down the days until he came home, sleeping on his side of the bed wrapped in one of his hoodies, aching for your other half. Now, no matter where the night led the two of you, it always ended the same way. In his arms, warm, safe, and most importantly, together.
But as the weeks stretched on, the excitement of touring slowly gave way to exhaustion.
Grueling didn’t even begin to describe it, and you weren’t even the one performing every night.
It amazed you how the boys could spend hours traveling, throw themselves across a stage for two straight hours, and somehow still have enough energy to do it all again the next day. Meanwhile, you could barely drag yourself out of bed in time to sit in the empty arena while they ran through soundcheck and rehearsals.
Being away from home for so long didn’t help either. It was the longest you’d ever been gone, and you were beginning to feel it.
At first, it was just harder to wake up in the mornings.
Then your appetite disappeared. Even when Danny insisted on taking you somewhere you’d picked yourself, nothing sounded good.
And then came the arguments.
They were never about anything important. Just little things that somehow felt bigger than they should.
“I didn’t like your tone.”
“Can we just go back to the hotel? It’s so late.”
“No, Danny. Not tonight… I just don’t feel like it.”
Each disagreement ended as quickly as it began, but they were happening more often now, piling on top of the fatigue until neither of you really knew what had started them in the first place.
Tonight was the first time you didn’t make it through the entire show.
By the end of the fourth song, you were already over it.
The guilt settled in almost immediately. These were the moments you’d been so excited for, the reason you’d wanted to come on tour in the first place. But the pounding lights, the roaring crowd, the endless noise… it all suddenly felt like too much.
After a few minutes of trying to push through, you’d had enough.
You asked one of the crew members to escort you backstage before slipping into the dressing room. Curling up on the couch, you pulled your jacket over your shoulders, absentmindedly picking at the spread of snacks while the rest of the concert played across one of the backstage monitors.
You felt bad for leaving.
Then again, Danny probably wouldn’t even notice. Not with an arena full of screaming fans hanging on his every word.
Sometime during the set, your eyes drifted shut.
The next thing you knew, the dressing room door swung open.
“There you are.”
Danny came barreling inside, the muffled roar of thousands of fans spilling in behind him before the door clicked shut. He was still buzzing with post show adrenaline, slightly out of breath, sweat clinging to his forehead as he swiped it away with the back of his hand.
“What happened?” he asked, settling onto the edge of the vanity. He twisted open the bottle of water he’d left there before the show and took a long drink. “You disappeared after Highway Tune.”
You blinked the sleep from your eyes, taking a second to remember where you were. More than anything, you just felt irritated that you’d been woken up.
“Yeah…” you mumbled, rubbing your face. “I had a headache.”
It wasn’t exactly the truth.
“I just needed somewhere quiet.”
Danny frowned but didn’t press it. Instead, he reached into a nearby cabinet, grabbed a bottle of ibuprofen, and tossed it onto the couch beside you. You didn’t bother trying to catch it, and the bottle rattled before finding its place on the cushion.
“Well,” he said with an easy grin, “now that you’ve had your nap, we’ve got a bar crawl waiting for us.”
You sighed, “Danny I don’t really feel like it tonight.”
“Oh come on honey,” he hadn’t noticed your rigid demeanor, “you love a good bar crawl. Someone’s gotta out drink Jake.”
“I’m just not in the mood I-”
“You won’t be saying that once you get your first drink.”
“Danny I said no!”
That made him go quiet.
For the first time since he’d walked into the dressing room, he really looked at you.
The exhaustion written across your face. The dark circles beneath your eyes. The way your shoulders slumped as if simply sitting upright took effort.
His expression softened almost instantly.
Without another word, he crossed the room and perched on the arm of the couch beside you.
“Baby…” he said, his voice gentle but firm. “What’s going on?”
You sighed, burying your face in your hands, embarrassed by your outburst.
“Danny, I already told you.” Your voice came out muffled. “I’m just tired.”
“No.” He shook his head. “Not just tonight.”
You slowly lowered your hands.
“It’s been the last few weeks,” he continued. “The little arguments. You barely eating. Sneaking off to the dressing room instead of watching the show. None of that’s like you.”
His voice stayed calm, never accusing.
“That’s more than just being tired.”
The concern in his eyes was enough to undo you.
The tears came before you could stop them, blurring your vision almost instantly.
With a shaky breath, you hid your face again, ashamed of how quickly you were falling apart.
Danny didn’t hesitate.
He wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pulled you against him, holding you close as your quiet sobs echoed through the otherwise empty dressing room.
“I miss home,” you admitted between broken breaths. “I know it sounds stupid, but… I’m not used to being gone this long.”
You clutched the front of his shirt.
“Even though I’m with you, everything just feels… off.”
Danny rested his cheek against the top of your head, a sympathetic smile tugging at his lips as he rubbed slow circles across your back.
“It doesn’t sound stupid,” he murmured.
You let out another shaky breath.
“I really wanted to do this,” you confessed. “I wanted to go on tour with you. With all of you.”
A humorless laugh escaped through your tears.
“And it was fun at first.”
You swallowed hard.
“But I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this,” your apologetic eyes found him, “I’m sorry.”
“Baby, you don’t have to apologize,” he reassured you, giving your shoulder a gentle squeeze.
Silence settled between you as you took a moment to collect yourself. Slowly, your breathing evened out, the last of your tears drying against your cheeks.
Once you seemed calmer, Danny shifted closer, moving from the arm of the couch to sit beside you. You instinctively leaned into him, resting your head against his chest.
“Can I let you in on a little secret?”
You sniffled, curling a little closer to him.
“Sure.”
“When we first started touring, I used to get homesick all the time.”
You lifted your head, peering up at him skeptically.
For a moment, you wondered if he was only saying it to make you feel better.
“Really?”
He nodded, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“I swear. After shows, I’d hole up in my hotel room while the others went out. Sam and Jake used to tease me about it all the time.”
A laugh slipped through your lingering tears.
That sounded exactly like something Jake and Sam would do.
“And then, when we started dating,” Danny paused, glancing down at you with a soft smile. “It made it that much worse.”
You scoffed, playfully bumping your shoulder against his.
“You’re just saying that.”
“No, really,” he protested, laughing as he pulled you a little closer. “How could I not be homesick when I had something as sweet as you waiting for me at home?”
His words made you blush.
You hated when he did that. How effortlessly he could say exactly the thing that made your heart flutter.
“And I still get a little homesick every once in a while,” he admitted. “That’s why I was so glad when you decided to tag along. It was like bringing a little piece of home with me on the road.”
Before the guilt could creep back in, Danny gently cupped your face, turning you toward him until your eyes met.
“But I want you to be where you’re comfortable and happy,” he said, making sure you heard every word. “And if that means you need to cut the trip short, then so be it. It’s not easy being away from home. Trust me, baby, I get it.”
His thumb brushed softly across your cheek.
“We can look at flights as soon as possible.”
The reassurance washed over you, leaving you wondering why you’d ever thought you needed to hide any of this from him.
Of course he’d understand.
He was your better half.
Your home.
You couldn’t get any closer to him if you tried, but you simply nuzzled deeper into his chest anyways, breathing in the familiar scent of his raw state.
“I’m gonna miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too, baby.” His voice softened. “I always do.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head before continuing.
“But maybe, if you’re feeling up for it, you can fly back out for the last couple of shows.”
You lifted your head, a small smile spreading across your face.
“I’d like that.”
Danny smiled back, leaning down to press another gentle kiss to your forehead.
Then one more to the apple of your cheek.
“How about we head back to the hotel after we wrap things up here?” he suggested. “We can order room service, and I can do that thing you like.” He sent you a swift wink.
A mischievous smile tugged at your lips.
“As great as that sounds…” You glanced toward the door, suddenly feeling a little more like yourself. “I think the bar crawl is calling my name. I might as well end my tour with a bang. And you’re right, someone does need to out drink Jake. He tends to get beside himself.”
Danny’s lips curled into a grin, his eyes lighting up with that familiar look of admiration.
“There’s my girl.”
He stood from the couch, seemingly ready to dive headfirst into the next half of the night.
But before he could get more than a step away, you reached out and caught his hand.
“Wait.”
He turned back toward you.
You gave him a playful smile.
“But after that,” You gave his hand a little tug. “You’re definitely doing that thing I like.”

Haha you’re not crazy!! I did mention some series I have in the works, actually two 🤭 I’m still in the planning phase of them and don’t know if I’ll have the time to do both (new mom life), but I hope to get one of them going before summer ends!
So excited that your requests are open!! I have two different ideas rn but just do whatever you prefer of course! One would be that Danny had taken the reader on tour with the band and as much as she loves being there with him, small fights and the load of constant traveling has made her homesick, so Danny has to try and comfort her. And the other is another Danny one, but the reader is older than Danny and has a child from her previous relationship and that causes a little bit of conflict between them and puts a lot of pressure on Danny, causing a strain in their relationship so now they have to figure out where to go from there
These are so different I love it!! I’ll *try* to write one for both, but I’ll definitely get at least one written! Thank you for the ideas 🫶🏾
