i guess when i say my jake is a bit canon divergent, i mean i try to write him with a little more dignity than what was given him. i'm reading through the dreaded epilogues right now (not that i've decided if those will be canon to my jake because honestly... it's more than very likely they won't be!) and cringing at just how often they call attention to how foolish or stupid or annoying he is, and when they aren't doing that, they're focusing on his ass and it's painful to read. knowing what i know about the epilogues, i know it's kind of intentional but that doesn't mean it sits right with me. (¬`‸´¬)

Well, shit in my lap and call me a litter box.
Today was supposed to be an easy, relaxing day filled with comics and movies—decidedly not influenced by the gaggle of alabaster animals that inhabited the island he's been forced to call home. JAKE hadn't been planning to leave his sanctuary at all today, lest it be in search of something to snack on in the event he ran out, but it seems the universe has other plans.
❝ What in the devil-fucking dickens is going on out there? ❞ comes JAKE'S inquiry as he approaches his window, both hands filled with the dual pistols he's come to love so much. He twirls them idly, emerald eyes scanning the ground below for any sign of monsters or friend-shaped robots.
What he doesn't expect to see are a few unfamiliar faces, all huddled together against the back of a tree, cornered by one of the biggest lusii on the island. JAKE'S heart leaps into his throat, both surprised at the sudden abundance of people and the fact that they'd been brought to bay so soon after arriving. Or, well, he can only assume they had to have "arrived" from somewhere—how else could they have gotten here?
Tightening his grip on his weapons, JAKE contemplates. He's safe up here, out of the reach of the lusii. He would not be safe down there, but leaving his new guests to deal with the monster themselves would not only be terrible form as a host, but it would probably make him look like a thoughtless coward. Which isn't exactly the falsest statement, but is that really the first impression he wants to make? Of course not!
Despite the anxiety brewing inside of him, JAKE makes the decision to help, rushing down the stairs. He bursts out the front door and makes a beeline toward the group of very colorful individuals, making a mental note to compliment their attire later, assuming they all survived this encounter, as he skids to a stop in front of them, lifting his aim to the creature above.
❝ Hi there! Not to interrupt your positively enthralling scrum, ❞ he calls over his shoulder, fixing the group with a grin whilst firing bullets into the air. ❝ But if you head in that direction there, I'm certain you'll find your surroundings more palatable. I'll be right behind you! ❞
Now, JAKE is well aware of the fact that bullets seem to piss these things off more than do any actual damage, but he has to do something. Maybe divert its attention so they can get to his house, then follow behind? Seems like a fool-proof plan. After all, nothing ever ventures up there after him, so they should be safe if they take refuge there.
