Self-conscious, anxious, self-hating giants are okay I guess. But what about calm, confident, easygoing giants? The kind that know what they’re capable of and choose to be good. The kind that aren’t easily angered, absorb an insult with a shrug, joke to lighten the mood. Warm, friendly giants that make it very difficult to fear or even dislike them.
Those kinds of giants sound like great people!

But what if angst through character building / other worldbuilding that has little to do with the giant’s size or self perception? What if they’re trying to keep it together through grief because other people rely on them? What if they wear a mask of invulnerability to avoid having to face the fact that they have emotional needs? Do you see my vision?
Giants who will argue with you about the term “giant”. They don’t think they’re large, they think you’re small. And it’s hard to argue because it’s all a matter of perspective, isn’t it?

Lately I’ve been (once again) very much into sketching tiny characters in huge settings. I want to make a series of paintings with this theme so I’ve been taking pictures of tiny trinkets that I come across so that I could incorporate them into my paintings 💕✨

Can Asmund see tiny things like bugs when he's in giant form? And if not what was his reaction to seeing a bug for the first time?
He could probably see some large ones like big butterflies! But not in detail. They would be just a tiny splash of color. Like a butterfly the size of a housefly. Smaller insects like houseflies or ladybugs would be comparatively like fruit gnats. You might notice them if you're paying attention but they would just be specks mostly. The first time he sees insects properly he's fascinated by how many different kinds there are. There's so much variety, and so many tiny details he's never been able to make out before!
Signe is personally obsessed with entomology, so she's likely to point out insects whenever she can and ramble about them. Asmund loves to listen to her, but occasionally he has to pull out the "it's just a bug" and make her fume a little (lovingly).
Giants that move their whole body out of the way/to accommodate tinies will never not be endearing to me. Like imagine there's an arm blocking your path and you hear a booming "Oh, sorry," and a limb larger than a fallen log suddenly rises up and moves perfectly out of your way. Or a giant scooching back to give a you space, and watching gigantic palms scoot a titanic body away feels like watching a mountain adjust to your presence. Or a giant whose head scrapes the clouds having to lower themselves allllll the way to ground to lie on their stomach just so they can talk to a you face to face. It makes me squealllllll giants are sooo cute

Heya! (same anon as earlier who asked about Morwyn) (I think I’m really falling in love with your lore, it’s awesome!)
I was wondering, you mentioned that smallfolk are afraid of giants and want to kill them because they see them as man-eating beasts. Where does that prejudice stem from in your lore? Is it because of their fangs or their size? Or something else?
Like, have giants been the subject of scary bedtime stories or anything?
There’s a really simple answer to that!
War.
Ancient wartime propaganda was used to dehumanize the giants, in order to make it easier to kill them. By human records the giants were completely wiped out in a purging hundreds of years ago. But to Asmund’s knowledge, his grandparents survived the war that nearly destroyed them. The timeline doesn’t line up at all, and nobody knows exactly where the last of the giants went.
Asmund doesn’t know either, because his entire life has been spent in a single valley with no way to leave. Anyone who tried to leave eventually just found themselves back where they started with no memory of what happened in between.
But because so much time had passed in the outside world, and because giants had been gone for so long, the old war stories took root in human culture as folklore. Scary tales for children about monsters long dead. There are songs and tales about clever heroes who slay giants, and even when a giant is allowed to be briefly sympathetic they are depicted as a comical victim of their own stupidity.
Asmund has to take great care not to reveal himself for what he truly is, or risk being attacked on sight. (A single mage can be a serious threat.) However he’s terrible at staying out of situations when he has the ability to help, so there’s often tension between his need to keep the secret and his desire to use his strength to protect people.
