hello, Iâm sorry if this is random since itâs currently past midnight, Iâm an upcoming freshman and I got the sudden urge to apply to gsmst so I filled out the form but Iâm not entirely convinced that I should apply. Is this school worth it?
Iâm currently passing all my classes, with a 90% being my lowest grade in both literature and biology. I think I can bring my grade up in biology but Iâm not sure if I can say the same for literature since Iâm not good at it. I enjoy reading and writing but whenever I have a test I do lower than what I want to achieve, I want to do better but I donât know where to start when it comes to studying for literature. Most of my classes are for high school credit which include the following; biology, physical science, algebra, Spanish lll, and marketing. What are some classes i 100% have to take to graduate? Plus Iâm not sure Iâll be able to keep up in gsmst, if I even attempt to try out, Iâm currently struggling with personal things.
Adding on, I know itâs futile and a poor excuse but my teachers arenât exactly the kind to go up to the board and teach, for example, my science teacher. My teacher assigns advanced work but he never truly goes over it and gives us khan academyâs in large portions which vary from 10-25 assignments weekly only in khan. Is gsmst similar? I feel like Iâm self-teaching myself and asking for too much on their part since they also have their own problems.
My friends also share a mutual feeling but theyâve decided they will not try out for gsmst and will apply to McKlerk(?). I know I should try to do whatâs best for my future but I canât help but wonder if I should aim for there as well since itâs much safer and Iâll have my friends beside me. My mother wants me to go to gsmst but I fear Iâll just disappoint her furthermore. I also heard they have more tests/ quizzes and have a different teaching method than other high schools, is that correct or am I just relying on unreliable sources too much? I apologize for this being long but I wanted to ask since I donât know who to talk to about this specific school. Thank you for your time and patience.
Cuppa: We're obviously biased, but we (almost always) think you should shoot for GSMST if given the chance. We're a ways out from having attended the school, so questions about current academic requirements should be addressed to the school. But one reflection I did have about your question is re: your friends. Trust me when I say that you will make new friends. Many more of them. And truthfully, you will go through so many periods of transition and growth into new environments in your life. For the doors GSMST could open for you, and the opportunities it could create, I think preventing yourself from going just because most of your (current) friends won't be there would be a decision made from fear of the uncomfortable. I don't mean to be harsh, there -- lord knows I've done it several times over. But it's advice worth hearing, I think. You can do this.
