She had to be doing this on purpose. Hyunjin was sure of it. Was she trying to upset him? If so, she had succeeded. For the past 2 weeks her and Felix had been attached at the hip, Hyunjin couldn’t stand it. He tried to subtly ask Felix about it without sounding too desperate.

“So.” Hyunjin started, standing next to Felix, attempting to appear nonchalant. “You and her have been spending a lot of time together huh?”

Felix looked up at him and slowly nodded.

“Yeah, she’s cool and we sit by eachother in class.”

Hyunjin nodded, letting the silence linger.

“Are you guys dating or something?” He mumbled.

Felix’s face turned red. “No, why would you think that?”

Hyunjin huffed, and Felix realized what was going on.

“You don’t want me to date her do you?” Felix corrected.

Hyunjin scoffed. “I don’t care, she’s your girlfriend, I’m sure you’d be such a perfect couple.”

Felix smiled slightly at Hyunjin’s clear jealousy.

“She’s not my girlfriend and didn’t you say you didn’t like her?”

Hyunjin paused. “I… I never said I didn’t like her, I just don’t get your sudden interest in her if you aren’t together.”

“Because she’s nice and cute and I tried to ask her out but…”

“But?”

“She’s still in love with you.”

Hyunjin didn’t reply but he seemed to light up a bit.

“So, I still have a chance?”

Felix nodded. “If you don’t have your friend reject her for you again, sure.”

Hyunjin ignored the snide comment and only focused on his agreement. If he could show that he wasn’t a complete jackass, maybe he could show her that he liked her.

Hyunjin took a deep breath as he approached her, he put up a confident front, he assumed girls liked that.

“Hey.” He flashed his gorgeous smile at her, leaning against her locker.

Her eyes shot up at him, she was clearly surprised but also looked a bit embarrassed after what happened last time.

“Uh… hi.” She mumbled, turning back to face her locker.

He smiled again, he thought her shyness was cute. “You know, you and I have never really hung out.”

She just slowly nodded. “Uh no, no I guess we haven’t.”

“Well we should.” He smiled again, despite being shy about the whole situation, her eyebrows furrowed.

“You, like actually you, want to hang out with me?”

“Is it that hard to believe?”

The casual confidence in his tone turned her confusion into irritation.

“I’m sorry but am I going crazy? Did you not tell your friend to reject me for you and tell me to stop bothering you?” Her tone caused Hyunjin facade to drop a bit. His eyes looked softer now, the guy she loved, as he stuttered out a response.

“Uh… well… these were different then.”

“That was two weeks ago!” She exclaimed.

“Well a lot can happen in two weeks!” He responded, his exaggerated tone matching her.

She huffed.

“Hyunjin… I won’t lie, yes I still like you but, I don’t like being embarrassed and getting with you after you had Felix tell me you weren’t interested… that was the most humiliated I’ve ever felt.” She shut her locker, turning to face him. “I’m not going to start a relationship that based on me feeling pathetic.”

With that, she walked away, leaving Hyunjin standing there, speechless.

“You told her that?!” Felix exclaimed in disbelief, Hyunjin quickly shushing him. “Why would you do that?!”

Hyunjin ran his fingers through his hair.

“I don’t know! It usually works with girls.”

“Yeah! Girls you flirt with! Not girls you want to fall in love with you.”

“She’s still in love with me.” Hyunjin mumbled, Felix let out a heavy sigh.

“Be romantic, stop trying to impress her. Paint her something, get her flowers, anything but that!”

Hyunjin paused for a moment. Paint her something? That was genius!

He smiled brightly at Felix and gave him a hug.

“Thank you! I’ve got to go.”

Hyunjin quickly ran out of the room.

“I… You’re welcome!” Felix called out.

"What's up on Sunday?"

Hyunjin had never ran out of school so fast, he had to find her now, if he didn’t, it would be too late. Once he spotted her getting her bike off the bike rack, he screamed her name which caused several people to look at both of them and her to freeze.

“Hey!” He ran up to her, still panting. “I… Painted… You…”

“You what?” She questioned, still looking very embarrassed by the amount of eyes on her.

He took a deep breath then spoke again.

“I painted you.” He rummaged through his backpack then pulled out a sketch pad, flipping it to a certain page.

She couldn’t lie, it was beautiful, it was just a drawing of her eyes but yet it said so much. The attention to detail made her heart rate spike. No one had ever done anything like this for her, and no one had ever looked at her like this. The small sparkle in her eyes that he illustrated so perfectly, she knew Hyunjin could draw but this was next level.

“I… I…” She couldn’t get anything out, everytime she looked at the drawing, she saw something new. The way her bottom lashes on her right eye were a little shorter than her left, the way her eyes looked lighter in the sun, she had no idea what to say but. “Thank you…” She finally got out.

Hyunjin tried to play it cool but he couldn’t stop the huge lovesick smile that made it’s way onto his face.

“It’s no big deal, really.”

“Seriously… no one’s ever done this for me, I mean, I didn’t even know you saw me like that.”

“Maybe I just needed to look deeper.” He shrugged but he knew that was the right thing to say. “You know, I could drive you home if you wanted, maybe we could hang out after?”

She smiled softly.

“Yeah I’d really like that.”

The boys never thought Seungmin would date someone like you. Not like you were a bad person, just different from what they expected. Seungmin was the type of man who loved to annoy people, he liked getting under their skin, but with you? He truly was like a puppy.

Whenever they’d ask him to do things like hold their jacket while they’re trying something on or asking him to pick something up while he was already out, he was always reluctant to do so. Scoffing and rolling his eyes before eventually standing up. But with you, he didn’t make a sound, he helped you remove your jacket and would pick things up for you without you needing to ask.

Once when you were all hanging out, you asked him how your makeup looked, they expected a sarcastic “terrible” to come out of his mouth, paired with a playful stare but instead, he just gently kissed your nose. “It’s nice, I like the glitter.” They couldn’t handle this anymore.

Han stood up with a betrayed expression. “Ok there is no way you just said that!”

Seungmin only now rolled his eyes. “Said what?”

“See! That!” Felix now pointed at his roommates face. “You just rolled your eyes at us!”

“Because you’re annoying.”

“Oh we’re annoying? Every five seconds we have to deal with those little soft glances and your perfect like kisses but with us, we get hated.”

Changbin spoke up with a saddened voice.

“And you never kiss me back Seungmin.”

Seungmin’s face morphed into one of disbelief.

“I’ve never kissed you at all!”

You had a confused pout when you finally spoke up, which Seungmin found adorable.

“He doesn’t hate you guys.”

“Not when you’re around.” Lee Know corrected with a slight chuckle. “When you’re around it’s all fluff and pink and sparkly, but with us, it’s pure ragebait.”

“Unc’s pretending he knows what ragebait is.” Jeongin mumbled which caused you to stifle a laugh.

“We were born in the same generation!”

Chan chuckled before looking at Seungmin.

“He’s in love, it’s cute.”

Seungmin looked down, weakly mumbling “I’m not cute.”

You smiled and held his hand.

“Yes you are, you’re so adorable.” You leaned in and kissed his cheek. He didn’t even try to defend his honour.

“Alright I’m cute.” He conceded.

Hyunjin looked touched at this romantic scene while Jeongin looked disgusted.

“There is no way he just said that.”

Seungmin narrowed his eyes at the maknae.

“Watch it.”

Jeongin raised his hands in defence and their night continued.

Seungmin had hoped they had forgotten about his relationship as the hours went on but as soon as he pulled you into his chest and rested his chin on your head, it all came rushing back.

“Awww.”

“Gross.”

“I’m really going to do it this time.”

“Lee Know, why can’t we do that?”

“Han shut your bitch ass up.”

Seungmin groaned loudly, why were they so annoying, maybe he shouldn’t have been so irritating for all those years, maybe this was his karma. But all those thoughts vanished when Hyunjin did the unthinkable.

“You should put some of your bows in his hair.”

Hyunjin suggested with a teasing smile, your face lit up at the idea while Seungmin’s eyes widened.

Before you could fully look up at him you could hear his answer.

“No.” He firmly spoke, never having been so stern with you before, not like it was going to last.

“Please!” You exclaimed, stroking his cheek as he tried to turn his face away from you. “Minnie you’d look so amazing and we could match!”

“I am not putting bows in my hair and that’s final.”

“On your shirt?”

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

You then gasped excitedly.

“What about your wrist! It would be cute and everyone would know we’re dating.”

Seungmin passed for a moment before speaking.

“…Maybe.”

You let out a small scream of joy and hugged him and while he hugged you back, he turned to Hyunjin and mouthed.

“I hate you.”

Hyunjin just smiled sweetly.

It’s not like Hyunjin doesn’t like you, he just doesn’t understand your infatuation with him. What was so interesting about him? What caused you to fall so deeply in love with him after making eye contact once?

At the start, Hyunjin liked the attention, he was flattered to have an admirer. But after months of endless gifts and constant excuses to have a conversation with him, he got sick of it. That paired with the fact that his friends teased him endlessly. He had grown sick of what had begun as a sweet gesture. Now he dreaded running into you in the halls, quickly turning the other direction whenever he saw you.

Hyunjin was used to people having crushes on him, he was fairly popular and was of course adorable. But it had never gone on this long. He didn’t know how to let you know he wasn’t interested without hurting your feelings. He didn’t want to be known as the asshole who embarrassed you just because you had a crush. But he didn’t know how much longer he could take this.

“No.” Felix firmly stated, sitting back down at their table in the library.

“Please!” Hyunjin begged while following. “Please just do it. I will pay you, please.”

“No, tell her yourself.” Hyunjin ran his hands over his face in frustration. He wanted Felix to tell you that he wasn’t interested.

“I can’t do that, she’d be devastated.”

“You think highly of yourself.” Seungmin mumbled which caused the rest of them to snort and Hyunjin gave him a blank stare before turning back to Felix.

“Felix think about it. If you were crazy about some girl and then she suddenly told you she wasn’t interested after months of following her around, wouldn’t it hurt?”

Felix huffed. “Of course it would.”

“Then wouldn’t it hurt less to hear it from her friend?”

Felix went quiet for a moment before letting out a long sigh.

“Alright, I’ll tell her.”

Hyunjin practically fell to his knees, hugging Felix’s legs. “Thank you.”

Felix felt the worst he’s ever felt while walking up to your locker. You smiled brightly when you saw him, which hurt him even more. The truth was, Felix liked you, not that kind of like, well… not right now at least. But he thought you were sweet and after this whole thing, he definitely thought you were too good for Hyunjin.

You smiled at Felix.

“Hey! Do you know where Hyunjin is?”

Felix’s mouth opened and closed for a second before mustering up the courage to reply.

“Um, no actually that’s what I wanted to talk to you about-”

You cut him off. “Because I made him these and I really wanted to give him them before the weekend.” You pulled out a cookie tin, all decorated in hearts and Felix felt his own sink. There’s no way you made Hyunjin cookies while he couldn’t even be brave enough to reject you in person.

Felix looked at your sweet smile and wondered if he could do this but deep down, he knew it needed to be done. You’d be even more hurt if it continued any longer.

“That was really nice of you Y/N but… Listen.” He started. “I think, Hyunjin might not be interested in a relationship right now, you know? He’s just really busy and isn’t focused on love right now. You’re a great girl and he didn’t want to hurt your feelings but he didn’t want to lead you on either.”

You were quiet for a long time, Felix kept giving you sympathetic looks, praying you’d say something.

“Oh.” Was all you managed to get out, now looking at the ground. You’d cheerful attitude quickly deflated.

“I’m really sorry.” Felix quickly said, you just nodded, not knowing what to say.

The truth was, you’ve liked Hyunjin for longer than a few months, try a few years. As soon as you saw him on your first day of school, you were infatuated with him. And after getting paired together for projects, smiling at eachother across the lunch room, you thought you had formed a connection, clearly you were wrong. It wasn’t until the last few months that you were confident enough to express your feelings but as soon as Felix said those words, all your confidence vanished.

After what felt like a few hours of awkward silence had passed, you finally spoke, lifting the cookie tin slightly.

“Do you want these?” You held them out towards Felix. “They’re mint chocolate chip, I hate mint but I knew Hyunjin liked it so I tried to make them. They might not be any good.” You mumbled, you couldn’t even meet his eyes.

He gently took the tin from you and something about you made Felix feel warm, he didn’t know what it was but he thinks he likes it.

“Thanks.” He sent her a soft smile. “I do like mint chocolate and I’m sure these are great, I’ve seen some of your work from our cooking class, I sit a row behind you.”

Your eyes shot up, finally meeting his, he felt the warmth in his chest grow.

“You know my cooking?”

Felix smiled again. “Of course, I thought your cupcakes last week looked really pretty. Nice colour scheme too.”

Despite the ache in her heart, she managed a small smile. “Thanks, your brownies always smell really sweet.”

Felix’s eyes widened and his face lit up. He couldn’t believe Hyunjin didn’t like you, you were perfect… um… he meant a perfect friend, of course he did. Yep, just a friend, definitely.

Felix decided to use the courage that Hyunjin didn’t have. “You know, if you want, you and I could hang out together, outside of cooking class.”

You gave him another small smile.

“Thanks Felix but you don’t have to pity me just because Hyunjin doesn’t like me.”

“It’s not pity.” Felix shook his head. “I just…” It was now his turn to go quiet. “I think you’re really kind and generous and I wanted us to hang out more.” He shyly admitted.

His words made you feel better and worse at the same time. If Felix liked hanging out with you, it meant Hyunjin didn’t like you because of you, maybe the not looking for a relationship part was true, but you knew it wasn’t. You’d seen Hyunjin give girls his number or send them flirty smiles, meaning something was wrong with you and that must’ve been why he doesn’t like you. But at the same time, Felix liked you for you, he actually knew your name, something Hyunjin barely remembered and he was sweet.

You knew Hyunjin must not be the one for you but your stupid little heart still beats for him. However, you give Felix a nod. He smiles again.

“Great, why don’t you come over after school? I don’t have any plans or anything.”

You hoped you and Felix would develop a good friendship, maybe more if the time was right.

When Hyunjin saw you approaching his friend group, he almost ran away as fast as he could, but he stopped himself. He remembered that earlier today Felix had told you the bad news, Hyunjin didn’t want you. He hoped you had accepted it and weren’t going to freak out on him.

He had prepared a whole speech in his head but as he was about to open his mouth, he saw Felix smile at you. He didn’t like that, it made him feel weird. He told himself that it was just relief that you weren’t bothering him anymore.

Felix looked at you, his eyes gentle and kind.

“Hey, ready to go?”

Hyunjin’s ears perked up, go? Go where?

When he saw the looks you and Felix exchanged as you nodded, ready to go wherever you were heading, his heart sank. A part of him felt angry, was it that easy to get over him? To move on? But he also knew he should’ve expected this. Seungmin was right, he did think highly of himself, he thought you’d be distraught but here you were… looking really pretty…

As you and Felix started walking, you turned to Hyunjin, your body acting on instinct. You wanted to say hi to him, you always did. His heart started beating a little faster once he looked his way, but it was disappointed when he saw you quickly look away, as if looking at him too long would turn you into stone.

Hyunjin had done it, he got you out of his life and out of his way. But he realized… maybe that’s not what he wanted…

Despite boynextdoor not having strict dating rumours, they preferred keeping their relationship status private. Unfortunately Woonhak was the most obvious boyfriend ever.

Fans often clipped all his reactions to illit’s performances. He didn’t care, he was in love. He’d often mention that she was his bias in interviews despite no one asking. He’d always go out of his way to greet her, his expression becoming softer as soon as he saw her.

He always sees her as the most adorable thing on earth, even after their Not Cute Anymore concept. She’d send him photos from the Free Rider concept for their new album. She’d be wearing a coloured wig and cool clothes, trying to look dangerous but all he’d do is somehow get cuteness aggression from that.

“Omfg you look so cute! Your hair looks like cotton candy and your eyes are so sparkly… I think you killed me.”

She’d just stare at her phone in disbelief. How can he be this down bad.

Woonhak who constantly brags to his members about her, he never fails to bring up her dancing abilities or sweet smile. They thought it was cute at first but now whenever he slips into that hazy voice he only uses when he talks about her, they all fight back a groan.

He tries so hard to be romantic but his gestures always fail. She didn’t mind, she thought it was adorable.

Takes her dearlit plush keychain everywhere he goes so she never feels too far. Is absolutely a whiner whenever he’s away from her, because of this he gets teased by the other members.

She’s older than Wonhee and Iroha, because of that, he treats them like they’re infants.

Becomes visibly disgusted whenever anyone ships him with another idol. And then gets annoyed when anyone ships her with a male idol, like full eye rolling, loud sighs annoyed.

“They’re not even her type!” He practically screams when a onedoor brings up her being shipped with another idol on live. Jaehyun is giving him that leader mode death stare he only gives when it’s needed.

100% participants in whatever tiktok trend she wants. But he makes her do the Not Cute Anymore trend with him.

When they do fight, but it’s never serious. It’s over something stupid like her not holding his hand once in public. And even after it’s resolved, he will bring it up till the end of time.

Everyone knows he has to be dating someone because even when he’s denying dating rumours, he has the biggest smile on his face whenever she’s mentioned.
