āAfraid? No, certainly not.ā Albus responded, somewhat surprised by the question. āGellert Grindelwald is a man, and just like any other man, he can bleed.ā Albus added, taking another sip from his drink.
āOh, listen to me, all this Grindelwald business when Iām supposed to be off work.ā Graves said and downed the rest of his drink. He set it aside and said, āThe orchestra is to play quite a few works by Schubert ā do you favor his symphonies?ā
āYes, actually.ā He answered, sending a look at the clock, before finishing his drink as well. āAs for Grindelwald, can one ever be done?ā He questioned. Tucking a stray strand of hair behind his ear.
āWe should get going soon.ā Graves stated.Ā āIs there a restaurant you have interest in? We might as well eat together after the orchestra, and since you are the cityās guest, itās only right for you to choose.ā
āNo, Iām afraid I have no idea what the city has to offer, is there anywhere you like?ā In truth, he had almost no idea how New York was laid out, he would appreciate Gravesā help.
āI can see if any nearby restaurants have any reservations available.ā he said, smiling to him before heading to the telephone. Ten minutes later he had secured what they needed and was grabbing his coat.Ā āWeād best get going now.ā
Once they had arrived to the theater and taken their seats, Gellert waited a good twenty minutes before he lightly brushed his hand against Albusā hand, slipping his gaze into a sidelong glance to Albusā eyes.
Albus turned his head just slightly. Not pulling his hand closer to him. He had been⦠unaware that Graves swung that way, but it wasnāt in unpleasant revelation. Simply an interesting one. His company made the symphony enjoyable at any rate.
Lips tilting upwards just a little he raised an eyebrow curiously, still largely facing the front. Leaning a little towards his companion he whispered āEnjoyable is it not?ā
āOh, yes. Beautiful, in fact.ā he said under his breath.Ā āVery pleased to be here with you. Iāve needed this for some time now. Youāre really much more charming than they say.ā
Albus suppressed laughing. āMore charming? I fear the rumours then.ā He said tilting his face a little more towards Graves. āIt certainly is beautiful however.ā
āMmā¦ā He looked over Albusā face, lingering on his lips for a moment before he returned his attention to the orchestra, a content smile over his own lips.
He thought this facade as Graves would last only as long as he needed to manipulate Credence, but perhaps⦠He ought to plan on living as this man, if only for Albus. He didnāt entirely need to remain as Graves to control MACUSA⦠He had plenty of spies on the inside, but now⦠Now he knew he never wanted to lose Albus again.
Smiling Albus returned his whole focus back to the music. Graves was interesting. Albus had few words he could use to describe him other than that. He was, or thought he still loved Gellert, but he found his conviction was wavering. Flickering like a candle in the wind.
Even if he wanted to persue this⦠attraction it could never happen though. Graves was too important to leave MACUSA and he was needed back in Britain soon. This entire assignment was only meant to last a short while.
For the rest of the concert he sat with his hand like that. Not quite holding Albusā hand but keeping their skin subtly touching. No one else would notice.
Once they were alone again, walking down the sidewalk toward the restaurant heād selected, he approached the topic.Ā āI know youāll want to return to Britain. But I hope youāll consider the value you can bring to me of a European connection who reports only to me. I really do hope for your company in the future... If I were to fund the travel expense, would you consider returning, say... a weekend every few mores or so? I know youāre busy as it is, but...ā
