“Cheers to you too!!” Stephanie said, a little awkwardly, but raising her glass to him nonetheless. “So er- what’s your name?”
Griffin lightly smiled at the response, as politely as he could. “Griffin, and you are?” He answered, leaning back on the wall. “Correct me if i’m wrong-- But this is your first time crashing some party, isn’t it?”
open starter;
to say that aksel had been angrier than usual lately would be an understatement. for the last month or so, his previously dejected and depressive personality had shifted to something more openly aggressive. the snide, oftentimes cruel remarks were commonplace, so it was only a matter of time before someone lost it. and lose it they did. a stranger, aksel didn’t know who, had been pushed to the edge by aksel’s needlessly angry remarks. and judging by the dark bruise on his face and cut on his nose, they’d won whatever fight had ensued. “the fuck are you staring at?” he practically growled.
it wasn’t like griffin minded his new roomates, if he had to admit so himself. at times, it was like no one was there even when the three of them actually were. granted, griffin liked it better when he was all alone, considering he wasn’t sure who’d be the one to throw the first punch. and as he watched aksel walk in; he’d figure he had been the first one in whatever situation he’d gotten himself. “at my roommate’s obviously smashed face,” he commented, unfazed by the snapping tone, as he downed the rest of his beer, only to open a new one.
“can you at least do that quietly?” she asked ( mostly rhetorically ), closing up the top of her open bag of chips only to turn her attentions to an already half eaten packet of biscuits. let it never be said she’d aimed to gather up healthy snacks. “evidently not.” god. was he REALLY going to just stand there and watch her eat? taking a huge bite from a carefully chosen cookie and chewing it very slowly and deliberately for a few very long moments, delilah mirrored his shrug of his shoulders when she finally swallowed, keeping her tone conversational, “seems that way, doesn’t it? the saying ‘you snooze you lose’ is really applicable right now.”
“i’ll do it so quietly you won’t even realize, until the stench of my decomposing body takes up all of the air,” harsh and dramatic? probably. now, if he was in there for the food-- or snacks in this case-- he’d try to do something for her to give him some. hell, he’d brood. because that was what he did. he’d brood so hard it became uncomfortable for the other. “luckily for you, i’m not here for that, so you can keep your cheetos for yourself.” instead he pulled out a cigarette and lit it up; this place was after all the least crowded section. “you don’t snitch, and i won’t.”
“Hey, you look a bit like that one kidnapper from the news. The one who took two children right out of the store. Has anyone mentioned that to you? The resemblance borders on uncanny, so I’m sure someone has.”
Griffin had no idea what the hell this girl was going on about. However, he shrugged as he took a drag from his freshly lit cigarette, not really bothering to ask what she was talking about. “I’m better looking.”

“you’re hours late- there’s nothing left.” not in the huge industrial fridges that she was referring to, anyway, but with quick thinking, she had managed to grab a small feast before the school kitchens had been raided. she was perched atop one of the counter tops, now, the spoils of her thievery ( did it count as that, though, if it was a survival situation? ) laid out beside her, and had been nonchalantly munching on a dorito when the other had entered the otherwise empty room. “you should have come by and looted this place with everyone else.”
“i guess i’ll just die then.” griffin mumbled with a shrug of his shoulders. if he was one to roll his eyes, they’d be rolled all the way to the back of his skull, especially as he noticed the bunch of food she had near her. “i work better alone. apparently not as well considering someone just decided to grab what was left for herself first.” walking further into the kitchen, he simply crossed his arm as he rested back on one of the counters. “so you’re just going to let everyone starve?”
“That’d be great thanks.” Steph smiled, but it ended up looking a little more like a grimace anyways. “Do I look like a tattle to you? Actually, don’t answer that.”
“This way, then, I need another one, anyway.” Downing the rest of his drink, he stood up and guided the girl to the kitchen. Looking around, he grabbed two cans from the cooler. Opening one and giving it to her before doing the same to his own. “No answer, then. Cheers.”

with all that had been going on at the school lately, jubilee was a MESS to say the least. her mother could have never prepared her for what she went through. she kept her fake smile on her face as she feared for her life and worried like no other. it was times like this that made jubilee believe she was truly a member of the park family. there were so many people crowded everywhere that finding the one person she truly cared about was practically impossible. she hadn’t heard of any tragedies, but she still never got to see him. that was until now, in the hallway of their new dorm building. he hadn’t noticed her yet, and she was debating whether or not she wanted to speak up. but her emotions got the best of her. “i looked all over for you,” she started, taking a brief pause. “i’m sorry i couldn’t find you.”
the past couple of weeks had been completely ridiculous. it was like griffin himself had asked out loud what could go wrong or it could be worst and the universe decided to deliver. there weren’t any casualties so he figured it hadn’t reached the worst stage. maybe except the fact he had to room with two people instead of one now. griffin was about to go in his new room, when he heard the voice he’d be able to recognize anywhere, making quickly turn around. “you did?” he frowned lightly, things had been so weird between them griffin didn’t know where they stood. “don’t get me wrong i--” i’ve been thinking about you “it doesn’t matter, jubilee. you have to take care of yourself first. how are you holding up?”
“Where’d you get the beer?” Stephanie asked, glancing around. She hated parties like this - high schoolers weren’t really allowed, and even though she often got away with it, kids knew that she didn’t belong.
Griffin frowned slightly as he noticed the definitely not from college girl. The frown not really that noticeable considering he mostly had one on his face anyway. “Kitchen.” He replied, it wasn’t like he didn’t crash parties when he was on highschool, however this girl didn’t really look like the type to do so. “I can get you one, but don’t say you got it from me. Or say, I’ll manage.”

“ didn’t you choose your name? ” jane asked, half confused and half amused. it was definitely a code name that would have embarrassed her to have, but since it was his choice she had figured he must have been someone comfortable enough with himself to use it. it wasn’t like it didn’t fit. “ nice to meet you, griffin, ” she made sure to say before shrugging and answering with a smile, “ it’s another plain jane name, no pun intended. i’m nothing if not self aware. ”
“actually no, i didn’t. my.. roomate did and wrote it down without me noticing.” it wasn’t a full lie. definitely less awkward than for some fucking reason my ex girlfriend filled out the whole form and submitted it for me. “nice to meet you, jane.” he said, his lips lightly tugging upwards in amusement at the self deprication. “some self awareness can never be bad.” he added before continuing, “hm, i don’t know about you. but now that we’ve found each other, what do you think of going elsewhere?”

“that’s my beer.” calder said, slightly bluntly. he’d put it down for two moments, and turned around to find this man drinking it. calder’s face was stony and set, chest puffed out slightly, as if he was ready for a fight.
griffin stared at the man, his expression a bit more chill than the other’s. maybe it was the alcohol preventing him from lashing back. “is it now?” he was pretty sure it was his, and even if there was some doubt withing him, it was clouded. and so were his actions as he downed what was left on the glass.
michele had asked for a diet coke from the bartender about ten minutes ago and was getting pissed. okay, so maybe there was no alcohol in it but she was still going to pay and tip just like everyone else so why wasn’t she being treated the same? grumbling something under her breath, michele looked over when the blonde addressed him. “nothing. i was just.. its been pretty bad service for me right now. sorry.”
“has it?” he asked, putting his glass down on the bar. now, he had noticed her sitting there by herself as well, but he usually minded his own business. nevertheless, as soon as as he caught the attention of the bartender once again he leaned close to him, saying some things to him, making the bartender grumble before looking over at her and telling her her drink would be there right away. "it’s amazing how nowadays threatening about giving bad reviews actually work.”
“Hey.” He repeated with a kind smile. I.. uh.. I’m sorry I left my book just there.” He pointed bear the other. “Would you mind if I just grabbed it real quick.”
“Sure?” Griffin frowned, confused as to why someone would bring books at a bar. “Do you come to read here often or...?”

“hey there!” after doing five whole sweeps of the store, jane felt pretty confident in approaching and greeting the boy stood at one of the displays. he was the only one who hadn’t moved in all that time and she felt it had to be him, though … she was still visibly relieved when she took a peek at what she could see of his nametag and saw the mist start of her dates codename. “mister .. smolder? i’m abby,” she pointed to her own tag, and then stretched out a hand, “but - jane. my name’s jane.”
the sudden greeting took him a bit off guard but heoffered a slight smile as he saw her. she had noticed the girl a few minutes back, but didn’t care to think too much on it, maybe she was just costumer but alas. griffin internally cringed at the use of his code name, “yes... let’s not say that name out loud, it sounds worse than how i could’ve imagined it.” he said with a light groan, before shaking her hand. “i’m griffin. can i ask why the name abby?”

griffin had been in blissful ignorance, just wallowing in his typical pain, when jubilee suddenly came to his door telling him he’d been signed up. he was so against the idea, and had absolutely no idea why his ex-girlfriend would put him in such thing. but there was no turning back now, and he wasn’t that much an asshole to simply leave whoever abby was hanging. so there he was, with absolutely no expectations, in world of colour-- such a strange place for a date-- with his nametag peeking from underneath his leather jacket as he waited for the person to arrive.

it was only when he was drinking or high that griffin wasn’t so... him. so miserable with everything around him. it was almost like he knew what having a good time was. he sat by himself, drinking from his beer when he heard someone speak too close to him. he still turned around, to check if they were adressing him. “yes?”
“yes. in four languages,” laura deadpanned, and it was hard to know whether she was telling the truth, or talking herself up because she didn’t enjoy the way he was speaking to her. she was not unintelligent. on this earth, she seemed it. everything was different. social cues, the way everyone interacted with one another, the things they said- she wasn’t used to any of it, and she often got her wires crossed. but she wasn’t unintelligent, not in the way he, or anyone else, might’ve believed or tried imply through their comments. “you’re more familiar with this place,” she replied, implication clear if one knew it was there- not just the grocery store, but the world, in general, “it would make sense you would know it well enough to know where to find the bean boozles, and i would prefer to follow someone who doesn’t whine.”
“good for you,” griffin said with a tight sort of smile, proving how much he didn’t really care that she knew how to read in four languages. it wasn’t like he had been looking for an answer to begin with. “how would you know that? i could be as clueless as you are.” granted, he wasn’t, but he also didn’t know exactly what she meant. however, it was clear there was something obviously off with this girl. who the hell went around confusing boxes of condoms with candy, and trying to stab people for it? “so let me get this, you destroy what i was looking for and then expect me to help you?”
