When Verona had looked up to see who she was talking to, she saw it was Griffin. instantly, she had the urge to run away far from him. just seeing him made her heart ache. she hadn’t seen him since graduation and hadn’t talked to him since about the middle of senior year. his presence next to her was making her more uncomfortable by the second. “It’s alright, there’s not much to catch up on. and even if there was, i haven’t been drinking for long enough to stand here and have this conversation.” Ver was usually never rude to another human being, but she’d been hurt way to deep by Griffin. as she turned to walk away, she almost tripped on an empty cup on the ground.
griffin pouted at verona’s words, a maneuver he used frequently throughout his high school career. instinct told him to catch his ex as her balance faltered, his hand catching her arm even as she regained balance. “i don’t know, it sort of seems like you’ve had a lot to drink, v.” he replied, “i feel like there must be something we can talk about, it’s been a long time.” he added, usual smile returning to his face. griffin was mostly oblivious to how most others felt, but he could understand the reluctance that verona felt. “i promise to behave. a lot has changed since we broke up.”
“dude, if i was a girl i don’t think i would be that pretty,” landon rambled to the person beside him, a cold beer in his hand. while most people were going through a rush of emotions and nostalgia at the webers’ farm, that was the last thing on landon’s mind. he was never serious about anything, and tonight was no exception. he didn’t want to be transported to the past; he just wanted to have some fun. “thank god i have a dick, huh?”
griffin smiled, somewhat in agreement, but mostly because the other wasjust too amusing not to. “i agree, i’d be a terrible girl. as much as i appreciate the female anatomy, there is no way i could pull off all that.” a laugh escaped griffins lips at landon’s last comment, followed by a short nod. “i don’t know what i’d do without mine, personally.”
Verona was looking at the fire burning, deep in thought. she was smiling as she thought of the last time she’d been at the weber’s farm. when she felt someone’s presence next to her, without looking up she commented “Do you remember graduation night? god, were we drunk. i still can’t remember it fully to be honest, just in bits and pieces. we were so..different. all of us, some more than others. even though everything’s changed so much, that night feels like yesterday when i stand here.” after a moment of silence following her semi-rant, she chuckled and looked up at the person beside her “In case, you were wondering : yes, i am very drunk.”
as soon as he saw Verona, he knew he had to talk to her. something about the girl drew him in and hadn’t stopped ever since. he was surprised she acknowledged him, even in the most simple of ways, but his astonishments were placated with her final statement. a laugh erupted at that moment, his eyes darting to the drink in the brunettes hand. “i don’t really remember that night either... i wish i’d been more careful about that. you know, to preserve the memories and all that.” it had been a long time, but her presence still captivated him at times when he wasn’t careful enough to be cautious of his feelings. “tonight though, i think i need to catch up to you in that department.”
