āIn the 1960s, there was no Ariel. We had living mermaids who greeted you from the rocks of the Submarine Voyage lagoon at Disneyland in Anaheim. If you were lucky, one would swim over with her big fin and wave through a porthole.ā

It's funny how some distance Makes everything seem small And the fears that once controlled me Can't get to me at all! It's time to see what I can do To test the limits and break through No right, no wrong, no rules for me I'm free! Let it go, let it go I am one with the wind and sky Let it go, let it go You'll never see me cry! Here I stand And here I'll stay Let the storm rage on! My power flurries through the air into the ground My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast I'm never going back, The past is in the past! Let it go, let it go And I'll rise like the break of dawn Let it go, let it go That perfect girl is gone!

Graduation
Jakarta is flooding. Rain is still pouring outside. The internet is currently down. So, let's type.
Following a conversation I had with my friend yesterday, I realised that graduating from one chapter of our life to another is no easy task. Being one of those who stick to the past like a glue, I dont think I have the right to say anything to him. However, this kind reminder in our heart that tells us to move forward cannot be ignored for the sake of our mental health. Or so I thought.
Most of the time I live in my past: my Melbourne life, uni days, internship days, glorious high school moments, so on. I found myself fall in love again and again and again with those moments.Ā But for how long? The longer I stay, the further I am from living in the present moment, the stronger the fear I foster in my heart. How am I supposed to find freedom, and the ability to love what I have today if I cling forever to my past?Ā
A family member once told me that we should not dwell in the past because we only have this second. Never hope to relive the past. That way, we won't be able to create a better tomorrow. Once you free yourself from the ghost of the past, you will be able to see with a clearer mind.Ā
The past is there to teach us lessons. If it was good, remember it deeply so you know what is ideal for you in the future. If it was bad, remember what you have done wrong - or what was unpleasant for you - and avoid it in the future. Isn't that a simple mechanism? When you graduate from school or uni, don't you have more tools to face tomorrow? You do, don't you?Ā
Oh, and people from your past change, too. Let them go. Don't force them to stay and don't expect them to come back. They will thank you for that.Ā I believe you'll gain more when you do so.Ā
Gotta go, the sun is finally here.Ā
PS: and be kind. be happy. Let's learn together :)Ā
