Does Lucy Carlyle have body image issues?
Im reading the first book of Lockwood & co and I canât help but notice some of the differences between how Lockwood is described and how George is described with a lot of emphasis on each oneâs body type (Lockwood: tall and lanky, George: chubby). Now I know that this might just be Jonathan Strouds way of writing about plus sized characters but all descriptions are quite negative, but also Lucy describes herself as a bit heavier set than she would have liked? (Although maybe itâs the âmale writer writing female characterâ type of heavy set, just a totally normal body type)
I think itâs interesting when you consider a body image issue that isnât really apart of the plot because it would put a different light on exactly why Lucy describes Lockwood and George so differently with different tones and why she focuses so much on them. Maybe itâs her projecting onto George?
Definitely not saying that this is the case, i think itâs just an interesting way to frame why her perspective of George is so much different (at least in the way she describes him physically, I totally understand him being kind of an annoying person. But then again is that just emphasised in her perspective?).
Iâve noticed that, in general, Lucy talks about pretty much everyone as negatively as possible EXCEPT for Lockwood. Iâm pretty sure Stroud is trying to communicate that Lucyâs sassy and a little mean, while also telling us that sheâs down bad for Lockwood. However, this does end up coming off as self-hatred most of the timeâ thatâs not entirely inaccurate for a teenage girlâ which often ends up translating to fatphobia.
Maturing is realizing that Ted wasnât telling his kids how he met the one, he was teaching his kids that thereâs no such thing as the one
My roommate has no responded to my question about how she plans to decorate her room ever since she said my posters looked demonic.
Iâm worried she thinks she canât live up to my coolness
Iâve dreamed about going to an Ivy or some equally prestigious university since I was little. I saved my tooth fairy money for Harvard.
It didnât happen. I got accepted into my dream school but there was some hidden financial form and they said the fact I didnât fill it out meant I couldnât get any financial aid.
So now Iâm going to a school I hate which is about two hours from my hometownâ two hours is not far enough, Iâm expected to come home for my familyâs sake every few weeks.
When I went up to New York to visit schools, I cried because it was so amazing. I loved it so much. And now Iâm going to college in Iowa.
At orientation, the demographic was about the same as it was in my high school. Mainly, the girls were the type of girl youâd see in Bama Rush. The few alt people I met werenât âcoolâ alt, they were more âmiddle school GSAâ alt, which was fine.
My roommate couldnât have made it any clearer that she hates my style and finds it weird. She called my decorations demonic because they looked to much like tarot cards.
All this, and Iâm still going to be thousands of dollars in debt when I graduate. I may never pay it back. And this was my cheapest option.
The kids are not alright.

Doom scrolling because I canât sleep rn⌠but my dog is snoring SOOOO loudly. Heâs just a lil guy
Saw a girl on TikTok look at super cool stats about the World Cup and how Haaland was a statistical anomaly, which was cool. And then I looked in the comments and looked in a reply to a comment and saw that sheâd been caught using AI for statistics and many of her videos featured hallucinated data. Which was not cool.
Asking for a friend: if oneâs roommate agrees to a âSam and Catâ bedroom setup for oneâs dorm, but later that roommate announces anxiety over oneâs side of the room interfering with oneâs roommateâs calming atmosphere, what does one do?
I didnât think my posters looked demonic but if they do then of course Iâll take them down, but it seems like the issue is moreso the HAVING of the posters in the first place.
Do Eridians know they are different colours. I bet Grace's alien kids love finding out what colour they are. It means absolutely nothing to them but they're like :O :O
Some of them think he's making this whole 'colour' thing up to mess with them and try to catch him out by asking again on a different day to prove he's just saying random noises but he's like you are still blue buddy and they're like :O :O
Imagine one of them is like a turquoisey color and one day Grace calls them green and another day he calls them blue and then the whole class is like âAHA WE HAVE DEBUNKED YOUâ and Grace has to explain that humans fight about colors too
I mean this in the most respectful way possible but can an asexual person PLEASE explain ace-platonic relationships to me? Like I donât get how theyâre different from regular âthis is my bffâ relationships. Like I get that itâs a bond that âtranscends friendshipâ but isnât that just like⌠really close friendship? Idk Iâm just confused đ
(p.s. just because I donât understand ace platonic relationships doesnât mean I donât respect them, Iâm sure theyâre completely valid I just donât know why)

âFashion boobsâ and other ways to stop hating women
I think Society⢠underestimates the power of a name to make someone feel bad (or good) about themself. Like Iâve been seeing a bunch of TikToks recently about how girls heard someone call their flat-chestedness âfashion boobsâ and they immediately stopped feeling insecure.
Part of the appeal of this term is that it isnât inherently sexual, like many of the other terms attributed to breasts in general, and nor is it demeaning. It reminds me of when I first heard about âhip dipsâ and felt disappointed, but then someone else called them âviolin hipsâ and said Marilyn Monroe had them too, and I immediately felt much better about myself.
Thereâs something very relieving about a non-sexual term which still attributes value and beauty to the recipient.
A lot of large-chested people in the comments of âfashion boobsâ video lament about how they feel like they always look trashy when they wear the clothes they like, because their breasts ruin every outfit. They feel like a whore. And I wonder if those people would still feel the same if there was a widely used term to describe large breasts that didnât sound like a name that a fetish-ridden man coined (Iâm looking at you, âcalcium cannons.â Eugh.)
Anyway, point being: maybe the problem was never womenâs bodies, but how we speak about them.
Do you ever think about the fact that one of the first things we know about Jesper as a character is that he cannot hold grudges well? Especially since vengeance fuels the other crows so intensely???
Even the most âmoralâ of the Crows still hold grudges (justifiably so). But Jesperâ the one who, out of all of them, might just have killed the most peopleâ canât stay mad at Kaz for testing his loyalty or any of the other terrible things Kaz does. He just seeks his approval. Thereâs definitely something to be said about Jesperâs violence vs intent.
I just got rejected from every dream school Iâve ever had and I donât know what to do with myself. I guess im just shit at writing essays.
I think itâs funny that robot vacuums are just robot vacuums but humans talk about them like theyâre little pets.
Well theyâre so little and cute and they need a little help now and then and they just go vrooooooom
I donât watch My Little Pony but I now have a head canon that the reason they say Rainbow Dash like Rain Bow Dash is because sheâs named after one of her relatives who invented the first rainbow and was named Rain Bow in the same way someone might be named Norma Jean or Bethany Anne or something like that. MLP fandom please accept my head canon
