Jesus Christ, Randy thought to himself, not expecting to be bombarded by an obviously overprotective friend of Candy’s. It should have been obvious that if he did have plans to mess with Candy’s heart or try to get in her pants, he certainly would have done so by now. After all, he had zero things going on in his life right now, and his boredom was always what lead to his stupid actions.

He held his hands up defensively, taking another step back. “Alright, Jesus fucking Christ, I’ll leave her alone.” He dropped his hands down as he added, “I’m pretty sure she was just using me to get back at Dewey, anyway. At least, at first. But seriously, I’m the last person trying to cause problems right now.”

    Grenda had been entirely prepared to argue with the guy, expecting him to put up a fight; when he immediately stepped down, she was left feeling a little aimless—standing there with nothing else to say or do if he was actually just going to give up that easily. “Oh.” That was all they could say at first, still frowning at Randy, almost deflated. It wasn’t like she had wanted a fight, but...maybe just a little. “Well. As long as we’re on the same page.”

     They weren’t surprised to hear that Candy had been likely using this guy to get back at Dewey, but it didn’t mean it wasn’t still dangerous to hang around somebody with such a reputation as Fluggerbutter had. He had to recognize that too, right? He couldn’t be quite as bad as all that if he was genuinely willing to stand back, but Grenda would still be here to put him back in line if he went back on his word. “Uh, you’re...free to go then.”

“Candy?” Randy repeated, eyebrows still narrowed. Randy hadn’t done anything to Candy. If anything, he’d been there for her as a friend when she really needed it. Had she told people otherwise? Watching them stand up, his expression didn’t falter. “I don’t know what you were told, but I haven’t done anything to Candy or with Candy, and I don’t have any plans to,” he admitted. “We’ve all been through some shit recently. Good influence or bad, I think she can decide for herself who she wants around her.”

     It honestly didn’t matter that Randy had no plans to do anything with Candy—neither had Dewey, and that ended up being a problem in itself since she had fallen hard for the guy. After having her heart broken, she was especially vulnerable and the last thing she needed was to spend any time around a violent, alcoholic fuckboy, whether there was anything beyond ‘friendship’ to their recent interactions or not. Everyone knew what kind of person Randy Fluggerbutter was, and Grenda didn’t need to hear anything more than that he was hanging around their best friend in any aspect to be concerned about his influence on her.

     “You didn’t understand, so let me spell it out for you.” They scowled. “I’m not making her choice for her, I’m making yours.” Grenda loved Candy Chiu more than anything in the fucking universe, and the girl needed somebody looking after her right now—which was her soulmates, not some douche-bag who didn’t care either way. “If you don’t wanna stay away from her, you’re gonna have to get through me. You decide.”

“The world, huh? Well.. darn, sorry I kept it waiting. Duty calls as always, you know.” Flashing a grin Tj shrugged his shoulders. The weather wasn’t too bad, and he hadn’t played kickball in a few days. Though as they offered up their idea he made a face. “And what’s in it for me if I agree to be your guinea pig?”

     Grenda rolled her eyes at his expression—why did guys act like make-up was some kind of poison? It wouldn’t kill him just to try it on one time. But they knew you couldn’t get something for nothing, so as he questioned what was in it for him, she answered by cocking her head. “You’ll get to look really pretty?” she tried, teasing at first before being serious, “I dunno. What do you want?”

Playfully Tj grabbed at his heart as Grenda shot out a smile his way. “Is that… a blinding smile. I am unworthy, truly.” With a laugh he gave back his own grin towards them. At least Grenda knew he was the little joker most of the time. “Not a whole lot. I actually finished up some work and thought I’d see what the outside world was doing.”

    They rolled their eyes as he continued to mess around, but it was a fond sort of exasperation. TJ was a total dork, but those were exactly her favorite kind of people. “The world was waiting for you. Now that you’re free, what do you wanna do?” Grenda asked. “I could use a practice dummy to try a makeover on.”

As soon as they had mentioned a hospital and broken ribs, Randy sighed in defeat. Of course that was what it was about, he should have known. Perhaps he’d grown too comfortable assuming that everyone had moved on from that ordeal. Though, he didn’t know what they meant by the rest of their remark — immediately his eyebrows narrowed. “What ..? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Not that he felt that he had the right to defend himself, but he wasn’t going to get blamed for something he didn’t do. “Look, I know what I did to Dewey was fucked up, but .. Whatever girls you’re talking about, I think you’ve got the wrong dude.”

     Of course he was trying to deny it...People like him never wanted to take accountability—even if he admitted to some things like the fact that he was wrong to hurt Dewey, he was just going to keep hiding from the rest of his actions. It was pathetic. “Don’t play dumb. I’m talking about Candy,” Grenda replied, standing up to be closer to eye-level with the guy, even if he was still a bit taller than her. “She’s a good person who’s been through some shit recently, and she doesn’t need a bad influence like you around to make things worse.”
