And being a massive contrarian here, I think Pirate Clark gets Clark not bc he doesn’t change, but because he does. He lets Mary go, he basically rewards her for doing everything he said he wants her not to. Because in reality, him “not wanting to change” is him admitting that he’s scared, and isolated, and has these often very angry, violent thoughts. He’s admitting that world the backrooms provides him, that mirror of his real life, actually sucks ass, he’s just okay with sucking ass. And that sort of self-reflection is the key to crossing into the window, the window of a new path. The path of letting Mary go. The path of pissing off the characture of himself outside that would never admit that, that would literally rather just rip people’s limbs off. And so it does. Because the more the backrooms actually remembers about itself, the less it does.

Having an account that basically no one interacts with or knows about is so fun, it really replicates my real life outside of Tumblr in which I talk to myself about a variety of different things to no avail.
