InfoStar Productions has recently launched www.LacoDDS.com, a responsive website devoted to family and implant dentistry on May 15, 2015. Edward P. Laco, DDS, PC Family & Implant Dentistry website educates patients on dental health including replacement options for missing teeth, cosmetic dentistry, single-visit smile restorations, and offers online appointment scheduling.

We exhibited at the CDA Convention in Anaheim this Spring and I was amazed on how far our website competitors were behind in regards to the changes with the Internet.  One major competitor in particular, which is closely aligned with the CDA, was promoting owning your website and self management content.  Two years ago these were viable options; however, in today's arena they are determents to a successful Internet marketing solution. Google makes over 500 algorithm changes each year.  Technology continually changes as does public expectation.  If you are locked into a static site year-after-year your site will not be successful.  

In 2013, Google introduced Hummingbird, which was the biggest algorithm change in their history. Hummingbird realigned how algorithm value was achieved.  Algorithm components such as meta tags and keyword which formerly impacted a sites algorithm value were reduced to a low level value.  Some components remained somewhat valuable such as volume of hits to the site, visitors time-on-site, inter-page linking, industry related back-links, and a few others, but for the most part for today's SEO purposes the algorithm value is based upon site content and how the content relates to the searcher's intention.  If a website is to continually compete for a page-1 ranking content edits are required in order to track with Google's changing algorithms.  Content must be optimized to track what Google expects.  In the past when a client was allowed to enter his/her own content it often devalued the algorithm or created a broken-link.  Unlike two or three years ago, today when a Google crawler/spider discovers a broken link it simply backs out of the site and moves on to the next site resulting.  Broken links or non-optimized content will negatively affect page ranking.  We figured this out years ago, which is why we stopped offering self-managed content and implemented a program to professionally make all of our clients edits for them within 48 hours.  We also keep the site fresh with new and/or improved procedure animations or movies and the latest in Google embraced content.

Our performance history is over the top.  To my knowledge there isn't another dental Internet company that will publicly share their performance record.  We publish our performance record in brochures and on the Internet because we can support the numbers.  We don't require contracts or term agreements.  Everything we do is month-to-month.  Our fees are more than competitive for an Internet marketing company.  Our results are outstanding.  For the past three years we have averaged slightly of 75% of all of our clients Google search terms listed on page-1 with an additional 10% listed on page-2.  That's 85% of all of our clients search terms listed on the first two pages on the Internet. Pretty amazing considering how Google continually changes its algorithms.  Our clients tell us that we have the best customer service in the dental industry, which is a consistent goal.  We have client testimonials that are so supportive that you would think we made them up (but we didn't).  What we are most proud of is that we have a 94% client retention rate over the past eight years.  Results speak volumes!

So, why isn't every dentist working with us?  It's partly our fault as we are slowly becoming one of the best kept secrets in dentistry. As a 22 years old Internet marketing company that works exclusively with dentists we once attending as many as 35 large trade shows annually.  Today, we are down to perhaps 15-18 large trade shows per year, so we are not a visible as we once were.  It's a matter of economics.  We don't make the show return of investment as we once did.  So, like everyone else we began to focus on Internet marketing.  We still experience Company growth of 20% increase per year, but with a much higher profit margin. I think there are a number of reasons why shows are not as profitable as they once were starting with but not limited to that shows are poorly attended, classes are tightly timed one-after-the-other leaving little time to visit the exhibit floor, and that Internet competition is popping up like unwanted hair. Everyone is trying to get a piece of the Internet explosion and everyone claims to be an expert.  These fly-by-nighters are relying on a dentists naivety when it comes to the Internet.  Competitors all claim to be able to get a website listed onto page-1 or say any other claim that the doctor wants to hear.  They charge little and produce even less.  Because a doctors is inexperienced in Internet marketing he/she generally will choose the least expensive approach hoping to limit their risk. There really isn't any unknown risk, it is a certainly that it will fail.   When we finally get to the doctor we generally receive something like "We tried it and it didn't work for us".  Well of course it didn't work for you, you bought in pig-in-a-poke hoping for Christmas dinner.

The Internet is the largest marketing channel in the history of the world , and it is doubling every year. If you are not marketing for new patients on the Internet you may as well mark a calendar date as to when you will eventually expect to close your practice doors.   Word of mouth referrals is still the number one way to attract new patients, but it has its limits.  Traditional advertising does not provide the return on investment as it once did.  The Internet is larger than all other forms of advertising combined.  Everything has all  gone to the Internet.

YELP ACCUSED OF UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES IN DOCUMENTARY

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --The trailer for a new documentary called Billion Dollar Bully has caught the attention of Wall Street. After posting a two minute trailer online, Yelp's stock closed down more than four percent Thursday and half a percent Monday.

Local director Kaylie Milliken interviewed Bay Area businesses that refuse to advertise on Yelp. The owners say they're getting punished with negative reviews. "I've been managing properties since I could push a lawn mower," Property manager David Behling said. The wall behind his desk is covered with accolades and the Better Business Bureau endorses him, but online Behling's reputation has a different slant. "Definitely the worst property management company I've encountered," he said. "Another clueless incompetent, another unethical, dishonest." Those comments were posted more than five years ago, yet they top his Yelp page and the five-star review from last month is gone. "I've lost business because of it," Behling said. Behling says Yelp is practicing extortion and he's speaking out about it in a new documentary called Billion Dollar Bully. Milliken says she's found evidence that when companies refuse to pay Yelp for advertising, theirYelp ratings suffer. "I want the business owners to have a voice because right now they don't and I want them to feel some sort of vindication for what they've gone through," she said. "They call a couple of times and nicely we told them no because we don't have the budget, I tell you about six or seven hours later, three or four of my good reviews were gone and two other one star reviews appear," Botto Bistro owner Davide Cerretini said. Some industry insiders attribute the drop in Yelp's stock this week to the documentary's allegations. Yelp released this statement saying, "There is no merit to the claims they appear to highlight, which have been repeatedly dismissed by courts of law, investigated by government regulators, including the FTC and disproven by academic study. "If they don't have anything to hide, then sure they shouldn't be worried about what comes out in the documentary," Milliken said. Milliken needs $60,000 to complete the film. And as of this Friday, her Kickstarter campaign has more than $20,000 in backing.

InfoStar Productions of Rancho Cordova, California has announced the addition of a new partner in longtime employee Mike Johnstone.

Johnstone, with a double degree in Psychology, began with InfoStar 15 years ago as a utility website developer. He currently runs all of InfoStar’s product develpment, programming and customer service.  He is the original product designer for the innovative SideKick Chairside Patient Education System, as well as many of the proprietary software development and management programs utilized by the company to streamline production. His efforts, and that of his team, have helped make InfoStar into one of the most successful internet marketing companies in the dental industry.

Johnstone, the grandson of InfoStar Founder Greg Sconce added, “Our overall focus will always be on customer service, performance and innovation. It’s really essential to our success.” 

We have been developing website for over 20 years.  Pretty much since the beginning of the Internet.  Like every other web development company, we had to find our own way.  The Internet itself was evolving, but had some serious bandwidth problems.  There wasn't (and still isn't) an instruction book on what is changing much less how to react to an Internet change.  I am proud to say we were the first company to offer flash animation on a dental website.  We quickly learned that Google did not recognize flash sites, but the public loved them.  So we made an html site in the background of the flash site for SEO purposes. To my knowledge we were also the first dental development company to add audio to a website.  Audio was a new novel approach and again the public responded favorable.  3D animation and dental movies attracted a lot of attention so since 2012 we have had our own 3D animator on site developing or changing material to track public response.  The learning process was (and still is) continuous.

As the Internet grew so did our experience.  Consequently, so did the effectiveness of our websites.  We continued to add components such as a language translator, a proprietary review module, free custom email service, telephone tracking, monthly reports and more.  We watched the numbers very close and altered our developing to track what the public was looking for.  The results over the past three years is that we had in a Google search approximately 78% of all of our clients 7,000+ search terms listed on page-1 with an additional 10% listed on page-2.

What's Happening Now

Today, Google has changed directions once again.  Probably the most serious change in Google's history. What we knew about SEO is pretty much out the window.  The majority of a website search value is now based upon content and its relationship to the intention of the searcher's request.  Additionally, mobile devices (smart-phone and tablets) have become the most dominant access channel to a website on the Internet. Because this is now Google's fastest growing market segment, Google wants the complete website to be legibly viewed on mobile devices.

InfoStar began working on what we believed would be Google's new criteria early in 2014. This past August we beta tested our first Responsive "Intention" website with fantastic results.  We changed all of the content to react to visitor inquires and offered an easy to navigate site design that may be viewed on any size screen. Google's new criteria has taken all websites to the equivalent of the horse and buggy era to the automobile era. So, regardless of how old (or young) your website is, it is now out-of-date.  All dental websites will have to change to a new responsive site that meets Google's "intention" criteria or suffer severe drop in its page ranking.
