From what we know about spirits and humans, we can infer that spirits and souls are two different things. Iroh went looking for Lu Ten in the Spirit World and didn't find him. That means human souls go somewhere else when people die. Wherever that is, is most likely where the past Avatars went when UnaVaatu broke their connection with Korra!

I don't have any real lofty goals for writing a screenplay and getting a movie made, but If I was on that path, the one movie I'd make is predicated upon getting it made while Jeff Bennett is still alive.
The one movie I'd make, you see, is an indie road trip flick where a group of young friends go on a quest to meet him just to see if he'll do karaoke with them and sing as Johnny Bravo the whole night.
The end credits would be him doing just that the entire time. Two specific songs would have to be in there: "Temperature" by Sean Paul, and "Dance the Night Away" by Dua Lipa.
