my ideal job would be working in an ice cream shop and scooping ice cream out of big tubs but never having to talk to anyone
in my fantasy you can walk into my store where there is a selection of blindfolds for you to choose and put on and then railing for you to follow where you will stand and wait while i inspect you. this involves sniffing for Bad Scent, general mood tracker and aura color. if i seen you worthy i pat you on the shoulder and you continue forwards to the counter. thereâs a platform there for you to indicate when to stop. i am behind the counter where i dip my ice cream scoop into hot water and shake the excess off. i gaze over the selection of ice cream and scoop out the flavours i have already predetermined for you. the decision is mine alone. i craft you an ice cream. i lay it all out in my head.. waffle cone.. chocolate base.. vanilla on top.. the blue ice cream iâve never tested and i donât know what flavour it is.. strawberry.. i take the ice cream and i tip it upside down into the chocolate and dip it swiftly, then rotate it for an even coat. there is a little nub at the top of the ice cream from the drip. i smile. before it dries too much i coat the top half of the ice cream in nuts and apply a single fake cherry. you wonât enjoy the cherry. i close my eyes and inspect the blueprint in my mind before reopening them and comparing it to the ice cream before me. my body heat is starting to effect it and the chocolate has slightly melted inside. this was all to plan. i now turn towards you and take your hand. i place it upon mine. we have a moment of silence. i place the ice cream into your hand. i hold it for a second. i indicate through shaking on the platform that your order is complete. you exit to your right. you may now remove your blindfold and pay at the exit. you pay afterwards, itâs a flat price of 9.57$. the ice cream is perfect, yet confusing. the cherry is disgusting and you drop it on the ground as you arenât a very kind person. i am already serving the next customer. this is my design
Windcatchers are fascinating.
Also called wind towers and wind scoops, windcatchers have been used in North Africa and the Middle East for thousands of years to provide natural ventilation & passive cooling. They fell out of popularity after the introduction of HVAC systems, but are now experiencing a revival because theyâre so practical and cost-effective. Hereâs how they work:
Not only are they an engineering masterpieceâtheyâre gorgeous
Windcatchers rely on local weather instead of the electric grid, making them affordable, reliable, and eco-friendly. theyâre a terrific example of how vernacular and traditional architecture is often more suited to its environmentâand more livableâthan modern polite architecture.Â

@gladosisalesbianâ
Youâre a daycare worker, watching over toddlers, when the imminent end of the world is announced. It becomes increasingly clear none of the kidsâ parents are going to show up as the end inches nearer.
[Audio starts]
âMom has been texting me for the last twenty minutes. She wants me to come home. Itâs a four hour drive, when the roads are clear, and from what I hear everybody is trying to get somewhere right now. Thereâs no telling if Iâd even-â
âEverybody else has left. All the other kids were picked up, the other staff left. They gave me all the keys. I promised to stay and wait for as long as- well. Even if some of the parents show up, I guess some of them wonât, so Iâm just waiting. Until.â
[Clears throat.]
âA couple of people came after everybody left. Peter, one of Aidanâs fathers, gave me three hundred dollars for staying. What am I going to do with money? Itâs- anyway. I kind of get it. He wanted to give me something.â
[Audio ends]
[Audio starts]
âTheyâre all between 2 and 4.â Sniff. âTheyâre so little. Too little to really- maybe if they were older, Iâd have to tell them something. But um. Iâm just- trying to stay calm and keep them happy and occupied. I think thatâs the best thing, right now.â
[Heaving breaths.]
âI normally use this recorder to help me remember stuff. Itâs just, uh, habit to talk to it. I donât know. Theyâre napping, right now. Iâve got the baby monitor, they know that if they talk into it, Iâll come, so-â
[Sobbing.]
[Audio ends]
[Audio starts]
âMom keeps texting, so I blocked her. I sent her a text telling her goodbye, first, but. I do. But these kids need me.â
[Sniff.]
âI tried calling their parents again, but I canât get anybody. Itâs just busy signals. I called the firefighter station, 911. I canât get through to anybody.â
[Shaky breath.]
âI went out into the yard. Um, I think they can play. Itâs nice out, and you canât really see it yet. Little bit of a glimmer, if they ask Iâll just tell them itâs a plane, but itâs nice out and weâve got hours before-â
[Murmuring childâs voice, indistinguishable.]

Ravne na KoroĹĄkem, Slovenia and a sculpture by Dino Basaldella.
JoaquĂn Vaquero Palacios
Expressionist architecture (roughly, 1905-1935) utilized emerging technology and unexpected building blocks to realize organic forms. This meant that structures were inspired largely by the forces of nature (rock formations, sloping mountain sides, seashellsâŚ) but were built under modernist principles. Consequently, there was a large focus on unconventional massing; novel materials created shapes that served function as equally as the pursuit of emotional expression. There was nothing subtle about this sort of architecture and the urge to push the boundaries of proper form has afforded us with incredible buildings to admire many years later. Not least of which are Joaquin Vaquero Palaciosâ hydroelectric plants.
Though he began to design his famed hydroelectric plants in the 50âs (far after the heyday of expressionism), the links to it are undeniable. He came of age exactly as this movementâs trajectory swelled. Born to a father who was one of the founders of Spainâs HidroelĂŠctrica del CantĂĄbrico, it wasnât a far stretch for Vaquero Palacios to lend his imaginative mind to this unlikely branch of engineering, and to take the principals of expressionism along with him. The Proaza plant, for example, opened in 1968. The multi-planar facade resembles the rocky side of a mountain, concrete âglaciersâ pierce the landscape. Itâs bold and unconventional, and seems to far outshine its singular purpose as a hydroelectric plant. This is what is so beautiful about Vaquero Palacios and his dedication to the seemingly mundane.
Itâs easy to question why one would spend a career on the design of these sorts of buildings. Why do they deserve such thoughtful attention? To this, Vaquero Palacios responded: âAll our day-to-day activities are saturated so we need to be appeased in some way to survive the tensions which we are subjected to.â Itâs simple, he believed in the power of granting attention to the simple things, to the the places and the routines we take for granted. This idea, to bring artistic dignity to every aspect of our lives, is something we work towards as well, and itâs a philosophy we are so happy he had.
The images we have here are of various plants he completed during his over thirty year career.
