My Patreon members have been getting a bit kiss-crazy with these SAWs. 😂 For this piece, I wanted to take my time to re-read The Night Circus over the holiday break to prep for this. It's been several years since I listened to it for the first time (back when I designed the Build Me Dreams papercraft) and I was really put off by the audiobook and the story comprehension suffered because of it. I love Jim Dale (who read the US audiobooks for Harry Potter), who has multiple but very distinct voices and accents. I kept getting distracted recognizing and comparing every Night Circus character to their HP counterpart which completely took me out of the story at times. Some of the characters were really goofy sounding, which works well for HP, but not for the ethereal cast of TNC.

I can wholeheartedly say that I much more enjoyed this white-noise re-read of TNC and was able to experience it without all the distractions. There were even several scenes I've pinned that I'm eager to illustrate / papercraft beyond the one chosen for this SAW. Please look forward to those!

BUT! imagine how he must have felt when jiang cheng hit wei wuxian with zidian. imagine! you've spent 13 years mourning the love of your life. raising his son as your own. scars on your chest and back that will forever remind you of what you've lost. and then he comes back. it's an unfamiliar body but you know that it's him. you can keep him safe this time.

and then his asshole brother who you HATE hits your love with the exorcism whip and for a second, you think you've lost him again. your second chance, vanished as soon as you found it.

jc’s being homophobic bc that’s just the way he is (yes he’s homophobic, no this isn’t jc slander but you can’t convince me he isn’t), and wwx is like super offended by him accusing him and lwj of being gay together!

and wwx isn’t even offended bc he’s like “how dare you call me a cut sleeve” he’s offended bc he’s convinced lwj is offended by being called a cut sleeve.

and wwx is going round and round like, “what, no, me and him are just friends! how could you ever say that omg?!”

and he gets even more upset when he sees lwj’s face twitch and he comes to the conclusion that oh my god, jc’s words upset him so much! and wwx would’ve let anything jc said go and just get out of there but he’s so offended on lwj’s behalf that he gets even more mad and fights.

and even after all of this wwx continuously interprets lwj’s “upset” facial expression as him to be extremely bothered that jc called him shameless and a cut sleeve, because he’s THE hanguang-jun and of course it hurt to hear that!

except i’m like 90% sure lwj didn’t give a shit over what jc said bc jc is jc yk, he’s always been throwing shade around, and was infinitely more bothered that wwx denied the prospect of being anything more than friends with him so profusely.

lwj’s face twitches right after wwx says they’re just friends, btw.

but like no i get it, because if my crush was profusely saying there’s no way we were more than friends and how dare you accuse them of dating me i wouldn’t look exactly pleased either.
